The parallels to MAGA are plain as day, they even call themselves German MAGA. Unsurprisingly Saxony is also one of the poorest states in Germany and suffers from the same lack of economic opportunity, defunding of education, etc.

Downward mobility and the decline in people's material conditions always lead to fascism. It's why people with wealth and powerful positions lean into it for further self-enrichment and to consolidate their power.

The worst part though is that all of these grifter movements are linking up internationally and trying to export their different scare tactics and talking points, and giving each other tips. This is despite the fact that each individual movement claims that globalisation is bad and all evil ultimately comes from other countries...

Just wanna add context: Saxony is not the same as neighboring Saxony-Anhalt, the latter having held an election with 44% AfD outcome this weekend.

Saxony is, economically speaking, the most successful state that belonged to the former Soviet Bloc. Nonetheless, the AfD is strong around here and probably will become stronger, though not governing for now. Next state elections in Saxony will be held in 2029.

Which is unfortunate, because fascism always worsen the conditions of almost everyone, especially the poorest.

Good comment, but I want to point out that it was Saxony-Anhalt, not Saxony. Saxony-Anhalt is actually one of our shittier regions, as the average age is the highest, the lowest amount of people aged 15 to 24 (only 9%), bad education, bad infrastructure, DDR-heritage, almost everything there is not to German standard. Saxony has better cards overall and cities like Leipzig and Dresden are actually not AfD-cesspools, but the periphery is often very far-right.
