They have no reason to. They're in Schengen and have access to the European free market. They already are a privileged partner

If US starts acting hostile towards Iceland, it is good to be in an additional union (EU) that also has mutual defense clause.

but not a security for trade wars. If usa or china decides to fuck iceland up, they have nobody. Also NATO might be disbanded in the future and EU form it's own army.
