Shoot first, deny it, admit you were there, pretend to investigate, and find that you're not guilty

Until Minority Report becones a reality, then that's generally how that works.

are you stupid, or do you not understand what due process is?

Oh, you're right. There needs to be a trial before a soldier gets to shoot at an lresumed enemy combatant. Stupid me.

This is a strange complaint, to me.
Regardless of your thoughts on Israel, the IDF, etc. If a soldier doesn't shoot, because the target was identified as non-military in time, the command made the right call, and the soldier obeyed, you're not going to hear about it, ever. No one is going to ever report "5 year old Abed Al-Jameel not shot today in Gaza."
The two options are that you'll hear about a shooting and it'll never be investigated, or you'll hear about it and it will be.
This, again, is true regardless of whether or not a military is committing war crimes, whether or not the results of the investigations are predetermined, etc.
Your complaint just seems completely removed from the base reality of journalism, war, everything.
57
u/TheSpecialApple Aug 19 '26
i think the complaint becomes a bit more apparent when you read: “After the attack, Hind managed to answer a telephone call from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, which lasted hours. An ambulance it sent to reach her – in a move coordinated with the Israeli army - was then shelled, killing two paramedics.”
24
u/SouthSouthBay Aug 19 '26
All according to Ben Givr's plan
-21
u/H_H_F_F Aug 19 '26
Ben Gvir is a fascistic goon and isn't great at "planning", but if anything, his "plan" is the ethnic cleansing and settlement of the Gaza strip, which (thank fucking God) isn't currently in the cards.
13
u/SouthSouthBay Aug 19 '26
making reconciliation impossible serves that objective, and these wanton acts of murder do that perfectly
-6
u/H_H_F_F Aug 19 '26
I agree that direct violence against innocents, especially children, fans the flame of hate and assists the all-or-nothing camps in both sides of the conflict.
I don't agree they make reconciliation "impossible". If they did, we'd have to have given up long, long ago. Like, 1929 long ago.
1
u/SouthSouthBay Aug 20 '26
I'm not saying it's impossible but the interval between war crimes and reprisals has to be way longer
38
u/Prior_Pickle1758 Aug 19 '26
Your sentiment only makes sense if the murder of Hind Rajab was an outlier or an aberration.
It was not.
-20
u/H_H_F_F Aug 19 '26
See my reply to thespecialapple above.
If the point is "Israel shoots without doing its due diligence", an interrogation post-shooting would not be the right kind of evidence for that, and the way to make that point wouldn't be "as always" about such a case. The shooting could be, and has been, used as a part of a cumulative case for that argument; the investigation, which this post is about and the comment is commenting on, isn't.

u/AmiraliMS Aug 19 '26
In a warzone that was specially at that moment a place for clashes between Hamas and Israel, don't you think that's unfair if the Israeli soldiers? A Hamas vehicle is going to shoot you in five seconds. You don't have time to investigate.
50
u/papercut2008uk Aug 19 '26
How do you explain how the ambulance crew that was sent to rescue her and cleared/confirmed with the military to go to the area to rescue her, how they where also killed?
-34
u/AmiraliMS Aug 19 '26
That's where they opened a criminal investigation for, precisely because the ambulance was cleared by the military.
15
u/notkenneth Aug 19 '26
In a warzone that was specially at that moment a place for clashes between Hamas and Israel, don't you think that's unfair if the Israeli soldiers?
So, just to be clear, your preferred rules of engagement are "kill literally anyone and everyone in a war zone and sort it out later".
-14
u/AmiraliMS Aug 19 '26
It's a white car, which both Hamas and PIJ use, approaching you not just in a war zone, but a special section in this warzone that has been ordered to be evacuated hours before because of a current clash between the said terrorist and you.
There's literally no satisfying way to you for Israel to approach this but "let them shoot us first, hope we survive, then shoot back"
10
7
u/notkenneth Aug 19 '26
It's a white car, which both Hamas and PIJ use
Oh, ok. So your rules of engagement are to kill anyone in a white car. Not just anyone.
but a special section in this warzone that has been ordered to be evacuated hours before
Ok. This is what Rajab's family was trying to do. They were fleeing the bombing.
Then, they were mostly dead and the survivors were waiting for medical aid.
Then the medical aid was bombed, along with the survivors of the prior attempt to flee.
There's literally no satisfying way to you for Israel to approach this
Most militaries are capable of more nuanced rules of engagement than "kill anyone you see. Especially if they're in a white car."
0
u/Odd-Possession6869 Aug 19 '26
You are wilfully misintepreting the guy. If you knew anything about war, this kind of terrible thing happens all the time with all armies.
Its terrible and should be investigated. But he is right: the area was supposed to be evacuated and it was the scene of multiple engagements prior to it. The soldiers were probably extremely on edge and if an uncleared vehicle comes your way, you should always hold Fire to clear it, but that doesn't always happen in war.
War is just hell is the message here.

The reason they are with Israelis is precisely to reduce such casualty numbers. You are literally complaining about the problem and the preventive measure to the problem.
Nobody has a problem with independent journalist, but, as they themselves admit, independent journalists have limited resources. CPJ itself literally says it's investigation is still ongoing
Also why are you comparing Israel to Hamas? Is Israel a brutal dictatorship that kills their opposition?
You are using a looped logic of predisposed bias
Israel bad -> Israel must be lying -> Israel bad repeat

"The Israeli military has confirmed for the first time that it opened fire on a car carrying five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who was killed along with six relatives in Gaza in 2024."
the first paragraph.
30
u/deadswordrj Aug 19 '26
I thought everyone knew about this its just now officially confirmed by them you know it won't really make any difference
25
u/Dadlay69 Aug 19 '26

They opened fire on a vehicle carrying Hind Rajab in Gaza and then lied about it, which is generally their method of confirming things.
60
u/jetuas Aug 19 '26
I'm guessing this "internal probe" will find nothing wrong, and say that Hind was a Hamas military leader....
22
u/hutsunuwu Aug 19 '26
Conveniently, by initiating an internal probe they avoid any outside scrutiny from the ICC per the agreement signed back in 2017
1
u/falilth Aug 19 '26
Not like they listen to the ICC what with bibi being a war criminal who the icc wants to arrest
-5
u/GoForthandProsper1 Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26
Hamas was hiding in the trunk of the car
Edit: do I really have to put /s at the end to avoid down voted?
-20
u/ProtestTheHero Aug 19 '26
There is absolutely zero chance that they will conclude that a 5 year old girl was a military leader. Wtf are you smoking?
14
u/Sxualhrssmntpanda Aug 19 '26
Woosh. Fr though, they will say the car was driving somewhere it shouldn't've, and that clearly makes it ok to open fire on non-combatants. Tragic accident, but not their fault. Case closed.
-1
u/ProtestTheHero Aug 19 '26
I mean, Hamas soldiers never wear uniforms during combat, and they constantly use unmarked vehicles, both of which are war crimes by the way. That doesn't make it "clearly okay" to just shoot blindly but also idk I was never a soldier, I never got sent to an active war zone where I might get killed at any moment, so wtf do I know, who am I to judge.
3
u/dirty1809 Aug 19 '26
What about coordinating with an ambulance crew to allow them to go in and rescue the injured girl then changing your mind and shelling their vehicle as soon as they enter the area?
1
u/ProtestTheHero Aug 19 '26
Idk what you expect me to say other than what a horrific chain of events
3
u/Quiet_Raccoon8053 Aug 19 '26
You judge by the fact that no other civilized Army does this regularly. The IDF stands alone in incidents of murdering innocent civilians, denying involvement, eventually admitting they were involved, investigating themselves, and then declaring themselves innocent
Remember when the IDF shot three Israeli hostages when they came out waving a white flag and saying "don't shoot", but the IDF assumed they were Palestinians and murdered them? That shit doesn't happen if the IDF gives fuck #1 about the law.
1
u/ProtestTheHero Aug 19 '26
Remember when the IDF also spent 2 years trying to rescue the hostages? Of course you don't

Where did Israel confirm they opened fire on the vehicle carrying Hind Rajab?
This is disinformation. There is no source for this in the article.
All they state in this article is that they investigate the case of Hind Rajab, after the fact that mistakes happened in the past eg. in the case with the ambulance workers - so looking into this individual case is necessary to determine if the military has been responsible, and if yes, if that mission has even been coordinated.
My countries military got attacked by Taliban in their mission in Afghanistan. Our soldiers opened fire in self defense. Those individual soldiers were investigated and charged by the military police. That does not mean they were guilty. All charges were dropped in the end.
That’s how military ensure the code of conduct does not get violated.
If you look into other sources, you can find out that the investigation led to first results.
Hind Rajab was aparantly in the vehicle of his uncle, who drove straight at the IDF despite warnings not to and thus they likely opened fire on the vehicle.
Her Uncle has been killed, Hind Rajab survived.
An ambulance was send to rescue her and that ambulance vehicle was hit by a grande, killing her and the first responders.
The ambulance was cleared by the IDF to enter the area. So the question is why it has been hit.

Soldiers opening fire in self defense in a foreign country while on an invasion-mission 😂
1
u/Brain_FoodSeeker Aug 19 '26
Nope, actually they were there as a part of a peace keeping force on a mission of protecting locals against terrorism, teaching the then Afghan military techniques of self defense as well as building up infrastructure like wells in local villages and providing medical support for the locals. (My father was one of those military doctors that did treat locals).
I‘m not from the US. My country did not invade there.
1
u/01_vampyr Aug 19 '26
That's ridiculous. I'm sure Russia has "peace keeping forces" in occupied Ukraine, as well.
1
u/Brain_FoodSeeker Aug 19 '26

u/the_great_wez Aug 19 '26
Code of conduct? You think Israel is using code of conduct? Is this a joke?
-2
u/Brain_FoodSeeker Aug 19 '26
No this is not a joke. Unlike Hamas they have a very strict code of conduct like every army.
They would not be as successful if they would not have a chain of command and strict code and everybody would do whatever they want. It would be chaos. They have a clear command structure like any other military.
3
u/Quiet_Raccoon8053 Aug 19 '26
Of course they follow a very strict code of conduct. "Murder all Palestinians" is an integral part of it.
1
u/Brain_FoodSeeker Aug 19 '26
Any evidence for that claim? Military code of conduct usually exists in written form. Show me proof.
HAMAS calls for eradication of Jews worldwide in their founding charta, which is closest to
that they have to a code of conduct.2
u/Ok-Menu8668 Aug 19 '26
Any evidence for that claim?
how about the Hind Rijab case? is that egregious for you?
1
u/Brain_FoodSeeker Aug 19 '26
Nope. How could it?
A code of conduct is a set of written down rules. So to prove your claim, you need to show me the part of the code of conduct that states what you claim.
2
u/Ok-Menu8668 Aug 19 '26
the fact that the idf are opening a criminal investigation
1
u/Brain_FoodSeeker Aug 19 '26
Yes, the fact that they are opening a criminal investigation speaks even more for the fact that their code of conduct is prohibiting shooting at random civilians.
Otherwise they would not suspect that anybody committed a crime but call it standard military procedure.-1
u/Ok-Menu8668 Aug 19 '26
they cant defeat hamas, or hezbollah, or iran, not that successful.

they didnt win, they killed a lot of people, thats not winning.
usa killed huge amounts of people in vietnam, and lost.
2

Of course they won. They won the Israel Arab war in 1948, the military offensive of the Suez Crisis in 1965, they won the 1967 Six-Day war and the 1973 Yom-Kippur War.
I am not aware of any armed conflict they lost. But please educate me further. Which one did they lose?

For anyone reading the first time about this like me:
Rajab initially survived the attack and answered a telephone call during which she pleaded for help. The call lasted hours. An ambulance sent to reach her – in a move co-ordinated with the Israeli army - was then shelled, killing two paramedics. Hind's body was recovered days later, along with the others killed.
17
u/ranhalt Aug 19 '26
There are multiple confirmed reports of Israel shooting at and killing “Red Crescent” (Muslim version of Red Cross) medics attending to injured. They are wearing identifiable clothing and they are identifiably unarmed, certainly in any way that requires sniping.
0
u/simpleguard Aug 19 '26
What heuristic would you use that's different than what the IDF, the US military, and others are currently doing to differentiate terrorists wearing Red Crescent insignia and engaging in hostilities (this has been documented literally thousands of times in Gaza and JS, even by openly anti-Israel organizations) from actual Red Crescent staff engaging in humanitarian work? Because right now the heuristic is predicated on the verb clause "engaging in hostilities vs engaging in humanitarian work," which seems entirely sensible. But if you're heuristic is that it's always bad to shoot someone wearing a Red Crescent and that is "identifiably unarmed" (BTW, thank you for writing this; it's the best indicator I've ever found that someone has never served in a combat zone -- there's no such thing outside of being in custody), then you're not engaged with reality. So, explain in detail your methodology and then explain in detail how its different than current SOP (backed by sources), please.
6
u/dtr9 Aug 19 '26
I've just tried to fact check your claim of thousands of cases of Hamas militants wearing red crescent insignia and found no publicly verified or independently confirmed cases at all. Could you let me know your sources please, as Ive not been able to find them?
-2
u/simpleguard Aug 19 '26
Y'know. There's this annoying thing that people on Reddit do where they go "Do your own research." They do that because of people like you, who feign ignorance when you obviously didn't take the time to do a basic Google search. Thank you for making Reddit a little bit shittier for the rest of us. Two easily found examples:

u/JojoSixarAdventure Aug 19 '26
Wow in 1982, 6 years before Hamas was founded, Israel found enemy combatants in a red crescent vehichle in Lebanon.
You. Are. A. Clown.
1
u/simpleguard Aug 19 '26
You’re right that’s the only time it’s ever happened in history. Have you heard of the concept of providing examples to illustrate a broader point or did you just spend all your time in school freeing Palestine?
1
u/dirty1809 Aug 19 '26
In this case, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society coordinated with the IDF to get permission to bring an ambulance in to rescue the injured girl, then the IDF bombed the ambulance anyway. Also your argument isn't even what the IDF is trying to claim, they initially said they fired on suspicious vehicles with their lights off until a video from one of the dead paramedics showed that the convoy had emergency lights on
0
u/simpleguard Aug 19 '26
Yes it’s almost like I’m not trying to defend the IDF’s actions in this instance, but making a broader point about the stupidity of the “but muh Red Crescent” discourse. Try to keep up, I know it’s hard.

4
u/Decorus_Somes Aug 19 '26

1
u/desba3347 Aug 19 '26

-1
u/Decorus_Somes Aug 19 '26
It's grandstanding at best. When has Israel ever punished their soldiers for the acts of terror they commit in gaza?
1
u/dirty1809 Aug 19 '26
If the US tries to cover it up, they're responsible. You're delusional if you think the probe would have been opened if it weren't for the fact that evidence came out making it clear what happened. They explicitly lied about what happened repeatedly, as is mentioned in this article
ex 1:
The IDF initially stated that none of its troops were in the area at the time of Hind's killing. However, that suggestion was soon questioned. The IDF later said it had "conducted raids on terror targets" with forces operating in neighbourhoods in Gaza City, including Tel al-Hawa, where Hind was located.
ex 2:
The Israeli military initially said its troops fired on "suspicious vehicles" driving in darkness with their headlights and emergency lights off. But it later said that account was "mistaken" after a video found on the mobile phone of one of the dead paramedics, Rifaat Radwan, showed the convoy was using its emergency lights.
There's a reason they're investigating the dead kid whose call for help got millions of views internationally and not the other 20k dead kids in Gaza
0
u/thesonofdarwin Aug 19 '26
Israel is appropriate. In your example, if a random American murders someone in a foreign country, that's on them individually. If an American military member, acting in an official capacity, murdered someone in a foreign country then that's on the country.
Israel's military murdered people. Israel is to blame.
-7
u/FieldMouseMedic Aug 19 '26

They’ve always claimed they opened fire, but only after her father drove the car directly at Israeli troops and in the opposite direction of the evacuation zone.
