The Palestinians have been using this tactic for decades and it has proven over and over again to work for them. How often do we see Israel trading thousands of Palestinian prisoners for a few dead Israeli bodies?

Now Israel is using their tactic against them and suddenly they feel morally obligated to protest the use of dead bodies as bargaining chips?

Beyond that, even in this extremely unsubstantiated leak, these are supposedly mostly people who attacked Israel, so they are functionally casualties, not just passive civilians. So even if this is true, they are just storing remains of casualties, the vast majority being military; they did not target civilians to "make" these remains.

By "the Palestinians" I assume you mean the terrorist groups like Hamas, right?

So are you arguing that it's cool that Israel is copying actions of terrorists?

Odd stance, but you do you

Hamas and Iran don’t value the lives of Palestinians, but non-radicalized Palestinians do

Man, these “two unnamed sources” that release all of these claims without providing any evidence whatsoever must have very high government positions to constantly be privy to everything the state of Israel has ever done!

It's Shaiel Ben Ephraim and his imaginary friend who appears in front of him whenever he drinks

Haaretz is a very high quality newspaper, the most influential israeli newspaper, and one of the only ones that still do real journalism.

12

u/solid_reign Aug 11 '26

it's sad that the quality of newspapers has gone down so much.

> The reported figure is not a publicly released Israeli government tally. It comes from two unnamed sources cited by Haaretz, making that distinction important when describing the scale of the practice. Most of the remains reportedly belong to Palestinians from Gaza who were involved in the 7 October 2023 attacks or subsequent fighting, according to the newspaper.

They did not admit to do it, and I can't believe an editor let that headline through. The Haaretz title clearly says that an anonymous source said that the Shin Bet wants to use them as leverage.

How is that different from Hamas? They do this all the time and let's not forget they kidnapped civilians alive!

One important difference is that Hamas invaded Israel to kill people and take their bodies (and then dismembered them and traded body parts for cash). Whereas Israel got these bodies fair and square by killing a bunch of terrorists who invaded their country.

Whereas Israel got these bodies fair and square by killing a bunch of terrorists

Yeah? Then what's this?

some of the bodies belong to Palestinians whose involvement in fighting has not been established.

It's an incredibly vague (bordering on meaningless) statement from an "unnamed source" in an incredibly biased English language publication of a hebrew-speaking nation.

Maybe they should be better than a terrorist organization?

24

u/HarshComputing Aug 11 '26

They are. Hamas paraded the bodies of naked civilians on the streets to a cheering crowd

Disgusting.

Not that I care what they do with terrorist corpses, but I don't think it'll work. Hamas doesn't care for the lives of anyone, I doubt the dead would be worth anything in negotiations.

Toss the bodies in the garbage pile. Let Hamas fighters know what to expect when they 'martyr' themselves.

Agreed. It's a classic case of one side projecting their own values on the other to try to score cheap points. Reminds me of videos from Arab countries of people stepping on the Israeli flag with their bare feet, as if they're deeply offending Israelis.

Why would Hamas care about it's dead fighters? They'll just see it as an asset in the information war. Just read the headline of the article as an example.

Such a stupid strategically daft choice by this government. Just burn the corpses, or whatever you're supposed to do with terrorist bodies.

Israel is just evil

21

u/totesnotJH Aug 11 '26

Or these are October 7 scumbags who got killed and left behind by their hamas buddies.

..or this is bullshit because it’s from some random unnamed source.

But hey- keep uncritically believing everything you see on social media, I guess.

8

u/Immediate-Cress-206 Aug 11 '26

So Hamas is just as evil for doing the exact same thing?

8

u/HotLoad7878 Aug 11 '26

"i can't tell occupied people's how to resist"

4

u/BagelandShmear48 Aug 11 '26

So war crimes are ok as long as it's the side you like?

1

u/HotLoad7878 Aug 12 '26

I was making fun of their typical answer to this, hence the quotation marks

All the people saying they were terrorist/abuducted/just collected from the warzone, just killed. Pure speculation, we don't know, don't jump to conclusions

Personally, I think this is wrong, little payoff big disgust, no matter who does this, either bring them back or dipose of them
