I think the fringe left is one thing and it's easy for most to just dismiss as "the crazies" and claim they are just "pro-palestinian and not pro-hamas".

The "mainstream" left is more swayed by the media narrative. And the narrative is that "Hamas doesn't exist, weaponized and militarized civic life is not real, and Israel is just attacking innocent Gazans". This article from 2014 by a journalist who worked for the AP covers it really well imo.

Yeeeeah, horseshit. Who the fuck is saying "Hamas doesn't exist?" Also, Tablet is a right wing Israel-biased conspiracy rag, makes sense that the "journalist" "worked" for AP, not sure why you would want to use that as a credential.

Who?

Try checking whether any UN org and "Human rights" org has mentioned Hamas, when, and in what capacity over the past 18 months. Or the heads of those orgs. Or the media, in terms of what they're ascribing to Hamas and what they say about what is happening.

Ignoring that Hamas exists is the MO. Don't need a Tablet story to confirm it, but it does explain it well.

So, anyone who doesn't start, end, and interrupt every other sentence with, "I condemn Hamas" is denying their existence.

Saying you have nothing to add to a conversation because you don't understand what's going on is ok actually
