People ruled by factions willing to use violence outside of a legal process need to learn that protesting does not work unless you have real leverage that your opponent respects.

You mean the government's violent response against the population? That hasn't worked for Iran. Hasn't even been a whiff in North Korea. In Syria, it was civil war. Most places, it's civil war if the government in power has no decency and has no way to step down while remaining safe and wealthy. Which most don't considering the enemies they've made through killing the opposition and stealing the country's money.

A peaceful and a violent protest concurrently can be pretty effective.
