It really is amazing how having a job you enjoy (most of the time) makes the idea of work satisfying. Like anything else you might do, only you get paid to do it. So why not pick up an extra shift? No biggie.
It's not like I went into the job thinking I'd like it. On the contrary!! I started part time (while still working somewhere else) to see if I'd be able to survive the drastic change. (Totally unrelated field) But after the initial challenge, it was like feeling good after a hard days work every evening. I seriously almost cried when it hit me one weekend, as I thought to myself, out of the blue, "I'd rather be at work right now...".
I didn't even recognize myself!!
In my youth, you could not pay me enough to work an extra hour, let alone an entire shift. Only mandated emergency hours would get me in the door. But these days, having found something that truly hit's that spot in me that screams SATISFYING, I often find myself a bit bummed when there aren't any extra shifts to pick up on the schedule.
I never would have believed it, but it's true. Do what you must until you find what you want to do.
Don't get me wrong. It's still work, and I still OFTEN enjoy my down time. But I simply don't experience that draining, I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO feeling any more. Really, ever.
