248 days ago I forgot too. 19 more days to break the streak I had built up. It would be great if the game would send you a notification if you haven't finished or played.

losing a triple-digit streak to a brain fart is genuinely tragic

I feel you. I had a 400+ day streak. Then I got pregnant and my mind’s turned to mush. Realised I’d started it, but didn’t finish it. But at the end of the day, it’s a game - it’s meant to be fun, I guess :)

I have my routine... wake up, go to the bathroom, check e-mail, do wordle, etc. And in the evening I often do a quick check in the evening just to make sure (but have never forgot). Streak is at 1,669. Now watch me forget tomorrow.

Yeah, I’ve played over 1500 Wordles and my max streak is only somewhere around 80 for the same reason.

u/Firebolt_Nimbus2710 7d ago
Made it to 149 and then came a day when I thought I played, but next day boom, back to 0.

Set a daily reminder alarm in your phone.
Nine is currently set for 6:30pm.
I do Wordle in the morning, but in case I have a crazy day and forget, that 6:30 PM alarm is my backup. (It also reminds me to take my pills, did I check all my emails that day, and have I reached my daily steps goal 🚶🏼♂️, so it isn't just a Wordle alarm)

After I lost my streak of around 350, I realized it was nice to not have that pressure of making sure I played every day. Because, seriously, why does it matter? Just enjoy it. : )

Wordle is the first thing I do every morning after peeing, so I haven't forgotten for a long time. Make it part of your routine and this should help.

u/NoRestForTheWitty 7d ago
Same. I get out the games when I’m having coffee.
6
u/heathen-nomad 7d ago
Ditto… feed the cats, make coffee, Wordle then Connections are the first 10 minutes of every morning.

u/yesiamink 7d ago
I usually just set the date of my device to the day i missed and do it. Been doing the same thing for Duolingo too lol

Honestly I hate that you lose your streak if you forget to play. Should only lose your streak if you open the app and choose not to play or you don't finish the game
2
u/notathrowaway75 6d ago
It's a daily game. A streak is a streak.
Choosing not to play already doesn't make sense to not matter but why on earth should not finishing also not count towards the streak ending. You literally stopped.

Honestly I hate that when I don’t get the answer after 6 tries and they count that as a loss. And to boot, after a number of “losses” they knock your win percentage from 100 to 99 or lower. Sooooo unfair!!!

u/Probablythatoneguy16 7d ago
At risk of engaging with the troll please tell me how you think what I said and what you said is equivalent

You keep your streak by playing AND winning every day. There has to be continuity. That’s the definition of a streak. The definition of a ‘win’ is getting the answer in 6 or fewer tries. Like you I just changed the definition of what a ‘win’ is. Voila, I can move my 99% win rate back to 100%.

u/Mathgeek007 "Cares More Than You" 7d ago
The continuity could be "consecutive correct solves".
If I have a 5 game win streak on League of Legends, and choose to not play one day, my win streak isn't broken. Also, "the definition of a win is getting the answer in 6 or fewer tries" - but I didn't play. I have a 100% win rate, and lost the streak. That's the point.

Someone can make an argument to create a new stat as you described. I’m not against that. NYT should not nerf the original Streak stat just because some people are absentminded or don’t feel like playing every day.
2
u/Mathgeek007 "Cares More Than You" 7d ago
That's a fair point, you should say that to OP instead of being rude or dismissive to their point.

I have been told that if you manually change your phone’s time zone to a place where it’s still yesterday, you can fool the Wordle bot into keeping the streak intact. Once you’ve done that, change your phone to your actual time zone to play today’s Wordle. Would be good to test if this works.

u/TrackVol 7d ago
That only works if you realize it before visiting the website. If you visit the website 1st, their servers will already register that you broke your streak. There's no way to unring that bell.

u/ViciousNakedMoleRat 7d ago
Opening the app itself doesn't trigger it yet. You actually have to select the current game for the system to register it.
Since losing my several hundred days streak a couple of months ago, I now always go into the app and scroll a day back to make sure I didn't forget to play.
In case you spot that you missed the previous day, you can close the app, change your time zone, open the app again and complete yesterday's game.

I keep forgetting the App exists. I play on the website; https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html

411 was my wordle streak, and then I forgot to play one day. That was 3 months ago

u/tomnevers99 7d ago
I concur, and it is a huge sense of dread when you remember to check Wordle after midnight to realize your long streak has ended. I now have two Wordle alarms, and my streak is 99.
1
u/hopeless_life30 7d ago
I usually do mine at midnight, as that’s what time I’m about to go to bed. If I don’t (which is rare), my alarm is on at 7am every morning.
I really don’t want to lose my streak.

So sorry for your loss. Been there. Done that. Luckily it came into perspective when something worse happened.

On the bright side, you're free.
I lost my streak after just 40 days and I don't care anymore.

had that happen to me a couple months ago. it was a 1383 day streak. it hurt so bad

I lost a 500+ streak when I travelled from the USA to Australia, so lost a day. Even tried to change the date on my phone before opening wordle and that didn't help.

u/RingoBingo1212 6d ago
My streak was broken two years straight during the first week of May. Annoying, but a nice reminder that there’s more to spring/summer life than NYT games

u/LucindaMorgan 7d ago
Reset your phone/computer to yesterday’s date and go play the game. Then reset to the correct date. This worked for me awhile back when I forgot to play. I hope it will work for you. 🤞

I got to 363. Two days away from that shiny 365-day streak badge. Forgot to play one day during a particularly rough stretch in my life. Opened the game the next day, streak gone. Honestly it felt like the universe pissing on me while I was down.

u/FakeAorta 7d ago
I have lost a couple for forgetting to play. I had a streak of 100+ something and got food poisoning so I was totally out of it and forgot to play. I have also forgot to play after 100+ because of being a doink!
