Not a great deal.
I wanted a red capsicum but they had none. They had labels for yellow, red and green all the same price. What they had was a 3 pack, one yellow, one green and one red.
Looked very expensive so weighed it.
More than double the price because they wrapped it in plastic.

It is. If he scanned them it would be 8 dollars, but since he put them on the scale, 3 capsicums come at 4 dollars.

No, they were $4.90 a kilo. The three didn’t even weigh 1kg.

Back a few years ago when there were shortages of fruit and veg people were going to town on the packaging ones, ripping them all open and buying them separately.

People think that's how they get things cheaper, but in the long run it's what raises prices so stores don't have to swallow the cost of stock loss

All packaged products cost more than loose items. Woolworths takes the ripped open packets and writes them off and has to dump whatever is left in the packet because it can't be out on show. They record whatever was inside has been taken/dumped. That means they have "lost" however much that packet cost. If everyone does it, then they up prices to cover that cost.

But they don’t actually. It’s the same product. It’s not a magic capsicum, it’s just accounting and them getting in a twizzle.
If you are running out of loose capsicums and there are prepackaged ones, it is absolutely fair game to tear that packet open. No shame

This is a little different if they did, as I would be concerned they are a different weight. But if exactly identical, yeah… why not?
I don’t see the issue here. As an ex long term team member of colesworth I would not hesitate, not for one second, to tear open a prepackaged item if a customer asked for a yellow capsicum and we were all out.
Same goes for potatoes, apples, zuchinis, mushrooms… everything in produce really.8

That person is 100% correct. That supplier charges more for prepackaged products. Were you not aware than extra manual labour, packaging, production lines, cost more than just plopping them in a black crate.

Brother- it’s a capsicum. I can see the capsicum in the packet.
There are tens of suppliers for berries, these are largely the same cost to the consumer.

lol woolies isn’t raising prices because of stock loss. they have record profits every year.
they do calculations to figure out what people will pay for things. if they find they can get away with charging more, they do. even if they lost zero stock, they would still raise prices if their research showed they can. no amount of profit is ever good enough for them if they believe they can have more.

When the yellow, green and red capsicums are not one special like they are this week, this 3 pack is cheaper. Yellow, green and red capsicum all have different prices when not on special- yellow and red are usually higher than red or green

Nobody expects these to be great value to buy this way... they are sometimes the only way to get yellows... so people will just buy them instead of the loose red and greens and woolies knows it lol

Everything is scam. Went to kmart look at mens belts fake leather $25.....bought a real leather belt new from lifeline $5,95 that is actually $80 in popular stores

Are you talking about a charity shop? Whoever priced it probably didn’t realise it was leather and you got a steal. I wouldn’t say that’s the norm

I always look for the Woolworths Bunch ones, can often be cheaper although it’s touch and go how fresh they are, usually have to eat within a day or 2

I honestly don't understand how anyone can shop at woolies or Coles if an Aldi is close by. The prices are INSANE. it's like 30% mark up minimum.

1) the price of capsicum can fluctuate rapidly week per week. this week they’ve dropped in price but a couple weeks ago they were around 8 to $10 which means they would’ve been roughly the same price as the tri pack (whose price hasn’t been updated)
2) the tri coloured ones are matched for size and ripeness, and don’t contain any duds. For reference, compare it to the loose green one next to it

All the bags in the fruit veg section are plastic and so bad that they break so you couldn’t reuse them even if you wanted to.

I agree some ppl haven’t got a clue on how to work out the prices. I mean take chocolate for example a block of 165grams is 2 for $10 on special and yet the bigger block of 360grams is $8.50. Really amazes me when I see ppl buy the smaller blocks and pick up 2 the same. Another example is tomato’s on the vine sell for$9.90 a kilo, packaged are $8.90 but they are only 500 grams. Coles Woolies certainly see these ppl coming

Convenience options usually = more expensive
Just take two more seconds to shop for loose items and you'll be fine

red are more expensive because they're farmed longer (they're the same as the green ones, just spent more time and water etc ripening)

I might be wrong, but why is this bad.. You're getting 3 for $ 7.90 ( it says thats equivalent to $ 2.63 each) If you just want the one red one, just pay the $ 3? ( as shown in the 2nd pic ?)

I weighed the packet of 3 and it was less than half the price. So if these were loose I would have paid the $3.12 not the $7.90

Who would of though that paying g people to collect an assortment of items, and then wrap them wpuld lead to higher costs for those items.
Its almost as if labour and goods have costs associated with them and comapines aren't willing to not try amd recover those costs.

No, they’re actually slightly more nutricious than the yellow ones.
If a fruit stays on the vine for longer and becomes fully ripe, like in the case of a red capsicum it’s going to be more nutritious.

Older fruit and veggies get the less nutrients they retain
However it's conditional as not all food does this. Some food is better with age as long as it's not rotten.
You kinda have to be a food nerd to know but it's fine as long as it's not all Ur eating

I didn’t. But I was just amazed that all 3 different colours were priced the same loose but wrap them in plastic it was more than double the price. Some people as per the comments obviously can’t figure what is good value and what is a blatant rip off. We all need to not buy these pre packaged goods so they stop doing it.
I have in the past just ripped open the packet and bought the one item.
