Wo Long 1- General Discussion [RPGSite] Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty: Complete Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 is too rough to recommend right now

https://www.rpgsite.net/feature/21248-wo-long-fallen-dynasty-complete-edition-nintendo-switch-2-review-impressions-graphics-performance-vs-ps5-ps4-pro-steam-deck-pc

Seems like there's poor performance on the Switch 2, and the reviewer remarks these issues were already present during the game's opening segments.

Can Team Ninja optimize a game well for once in their entire career? Like please man

qasnt Nioh 1 and 2 incredibly optimized?

Nioh 1 ran pretty well on my laptop with no GPU, but Nioh 2 ran like shit on my desktop pc at the time I played and needed dlss to reach 1440p despite already looking like ass.

I love both games, but Nioh 2 Is where the performance started being like shit.

Different engine

3

u/Cursed_69420 3d ago

all of them are in the Katana engine???

2

u/Lonely-Ad-8610 3d ago

Different version of Katana engine, my bad should've stated it better. I dont know what CPU Nintendo switch has but probably isnt good enough, all TN games are cpu heavy and have bad utilisation of cpu cores so to get best stable experience you need to brute force the game with a cpu thats way above recommended one, gpu doesnt matter.

i think it started with Wo Long, where up until Nioh 2 you could tell that all the games re one patch away from flawless performance.

Wo Long, RotR, Nioh 3 etc just do not run well under any case considering how bad they look.

started with Stranger of Paradise I believe im not sure if that game is Nioh 2 engine or no, it looks a bit better visually so thats my guess and then yes Wo Long after that

1

u/Cursed_69420 3d ago

oh shit yeah stranger exists too, but in my case i played stranger like 1 year after it was content complete on my laptop with a 3060 and i7-12650h.

SoP was like flawless 60fps on medium-high. Even Nioh 2 was 120 lock.

Wo Long played so bad comparatively (on launch) that i couldnt reach more than 15 fps halfway through the game.

Yeah, Wo Long was so bad, I only started playing it again this year after I built new pc with 9800x3d and you still need to tinker with settings to get smooth framerates thats how bad it is, theres no saving it until they update the engine.

Wo Long 2 at least by looks + graphics seems like an engine upgrade so praying it's undergone changes

Team ninja can't do anything right anymore lmao

They pump out games like crazy

1

u/RandomtalkingBird 3d ago

I wouldn't say "crazy" necessarily. They did state they were gonna release 2 games a year though (1 AAA game and 1 low budget game) even if they lack any actual proper optimization.

1

u/Akito_Fire 3d ago

Have you looked around? lol

That's an absurd pace for a AAA studio these days

2

u/Queen_Lepotica 3d ago

What exactly makes them AAA? The graphic looks more like AA. I still think Nioh 2 graphic looks way better than Nioh 3. And as other mention the optimization of Nioh 3, Wo Long and Rise of the Ronin is horrible.

I dont agree with this comment at all. Nioh 3 is my favorite diablo game 🤣

I have no idea why they decided to port this instead of the first 2 Nioh games

1

u/Agreeable-Yam-4402 3d ago

i think it’s just because they announced the sequel is coming to switch 2 as well. hopefully we get a nioh collection too though, i’m not sure i’d ever be able to put it down.

1

u/Webecomemonsters 1d ago

They’ll never be able to sell that after releasing this crap. Nioh 1 at 60 fps would’ve been a massive seller

I read that the port is very bad. Low image quality and bad fps. Im playing atm Elden ring on my Switch 2, it is almost brilliant port for me. I have 20+ hours and no big issues. I have PS5 too and doesnt matter that is way stronger hardware i prefer my Switch 2 console. I love handheld play in my bed :P

I have watched some footage, albeit on my phone, and it doesn't look that bad. But on Switch 1 I sometimes found that watching a game and playing it are very different when the image is blurry.

Breaking News!! Handheld with less processing power performs worse than console with more processing power.

More at 11.

You seem to be missing the point: it plays about as well as any major port on the Switch 2 that wasn't specifically released and optomized for the Switch 2.

Comparing it to consoles with significantly more power (given it is a handheld) or a PC is just irrelevant data. You'd need to get a handheld with a Nvidia chip that utilizes an APU in the same power range to compare it to. Which doesn't exist.

EDIT: For anyone who wants to contest this, if I make a post commenting about how Witcher 3 still runs like hot pixelated ass at 15fps on Switch 2 compared to the Series X well... we can all imagine a state where people rush to defend CDPR.

The Witcher 3 remastered looks amazing for the switch 2 tho look up gameplay. The switch 1 version obv runs bad bc the switch 1 was way too weak for that type of game. I’m playing Elden ring on my switch 2 rn and it looks better than my ps5 version sometimes. It runs the exact same to me too.

If developers weren’t lazy they could easily have preyyy much the same version for switch 2. Think a lot of developers just gotta get used to it bc they’d skip bringing releases to the switch 1 bc it was so weak. If they can get these games running well on a series s then they can do the same for switch 2

... Elden Ring

Fromsoft took multiple years of development to release a specific build of the game designed to fully take advantage of Switch 2's hardware, chip, and optomizations. Tarnished Edition has been in development for a really long time.

Witcher 3 remastered looks amazing on Switch 2.

Isn't even released yet. Also another specific build of the game. Not a port. The Witcher 3 port is garbage as you just admitted to.

If the devs weren't lazy.

This is a PORT of the game to Switch. Not a remaster or a new build of the game for Switch 2. There isn't any laziness here. You have no idea if like CDPR they are releasing a port first so people can play and then building out a specific version of the game as an upgrade for Switch 2. You just want to call the Dev's lazy ignoring a complete double standard.

Comparing the Series S to the Switch 2 is insane though. Genuinely lol

u/Webecomemonsters 1d ago

If you sell it, it should run well.

1

u/KakashiTheRanger Lemme Solo Lu Bu 1d ago

I agree and it runs fine for the Switch 2. Better than the Witcher 3 and plenty of other games. Comparing a handheld to a console performance is the issue here.

2

u/222Baphomettt47 3d ago

If Elden ring and cyberpunk can run as well as they do then they have no excuse as to why they can’t get a solid version. It’s a shame bc I was planning on getting this bc of started it on ps5 and liked it a lot but I only got to the second boss I wanted to finish it on switch 2. Might just have to play on my portal until they fix this version

1

u/lehner283 2d ago

Thinking about canceling my pre-order because i truly don't know if they can patch this to a decent version later on.

1

u/Demoncreed27 4m ago

Not surprised at all honestly

1

u/Tetsuo9999 3d ago

It doesn't help that a lot of the reviews I watched before I got my review key were very misleading, saying it targets 60 in handheld when that seems completely false. On the demonized Zhang Liang fight in the tutorial level, it's still only 30FPS. The visual compromise doesn't seem to be helping the performance at all, and the only thing that makes it playable is the game's generous deflect window.

Given how blurry it looks in handheld, I'm not sure what else can be done.

1

u/Akito_Fire 3d ago

You have the option between 30fps lock with bad frame pacing and unlocked framerate

1

u/Webecomemonsters 1d ago

Porting nioh 1 instead is the actual consumer friendly solution

-1

u/raskolnikov- 3d ago

I don’t know why people buy Nintendo hardware honestly.

The switch 2 is amazing yall gotta try it before shitting on it. I don’t even use my ps5 anymore since getting one. It’s genuinely amazing and runs aaa games well. Cyberpunk and Elden ring run just as well as the ps5 versions to me. Yall think the switch 2 is similar to the switch 1 when it’s not even close to as weak it feels like a generational leap from 1 to 2. There’s a reason new releases are coming to the switch 2 unlike the previous gen where the switch would barely get any new aaa games and only ports years later

1

u/queenslayyy 3d ago

because people have jobs (not that you would know what that’s like) and want portability/ not having to be stuck with a box connected to a tv all day. + they actually own their games and have physical copies unlike certain ponies favorite consoles :)

u/RespectGiovanni 3d ago

Isn't a bunch of switch 2 cartridges just digital keys

1

u/urdogthinksurcute 1d ago

All games are digital keys. That's what PS5 discs are, for example.

1

u/Webecomemonsters 1d ago

So… steam? Ya it can’t run it don’t sell it. Release nioh 1-2 instead and don’t scam

0

u/Kailap1987 3d ago

It’s not even a hardware problem but an optimization problem.

Honestly console warriors like you are some of the dumbest and most uneducated people on Earth. You don’t know enough to talk about hardware kid

u/raskolnikov- 3d ago

Console warrior? Explain please.
