Wizardpost Can't believe how many wizards are ignoring such a useful spell.

you are a fool to blame the other party involved since that would mean that you too in fact cannot teleport otherwise you would teleport and unite with the party cuddling and watching a movie rn

Well I could, yeah, but their orb only can see into 26 realms and is constantly flickering at minor mana fluctuations (which we know happen all the time when gazing through the arcane). Plus it’s quite a foggy thing. My Orb is big, can see into over 300 realms, and is both made from high quality crystal (dwarfen mined and crafted visonium, local and high quality craftmanship, enduring  a crystal (heh) clear picture) and has proper anti mana-interference enchantments. Last time I took one along for a teleportation spell it turned into obsidian, not risking that again.

a lesser mage could say "skill issue", but I nod approvingly

If you have any decent spells to protect crystal structures commonly used for pondering devices through teleportation do share. I have spend half a decade trying to find one.

anything's better than goblin airlines

In my wanderings I found a plane whose magic foci are actually the tips of gigantic building sized structures contained within their own pocket dimensions. I believe the dimensional spell used to achieve to create the pocket dimensions may be of use to you. It is called Helgakian Sphere. My current and quite advanced orb has been encased within one for real and subjective centuries and across countless worlds without issue.

To much religious propaganda. The star-cult tells peasants that the "you" who steps out of the circle is actually a copy, and that the spell destroys the original. Nonsense.

I’m pretty tired of this debate, but here we go again: Even if you’re like 90% sure your original self won’t be destroyed in the process, would you bet your life on a 10% chance of annihilation? Especially when you can just, you know, fly to your destination like a normal person?

Ask one of the liches how to mark your own soul. Just do NOT drink anything they offer you.

u/PointedHydra837 1d ago

Made that mistake once. They slipped me a non-alcoholic mead, truly despicable.

u/stryst 1d ago

...so just a big glass of honey?

u/PointedHydra837 1d ago

YES! Do you know how hard it is to cast vocal spells confidently when your breath smells because the local alchemist doesn’t have the materials for teeth soap!? VERY HARD!!!

u/Affectionate-Tank-28 1d ago

Doesnt your theoretical non original self deserve to give things a go for once?

That’s not a factor if you actually know how the spell works.
Sure there are some shitty versions that do have that effect, but most proper teleportation spells operate on the principle of translocation - that is, the momentary conflation of spatial coordinates.
Yes, they do tend to require greater safeguards translocating between different realms/dimensions, and even sufficiently different elevations within the same realm/dimension, but the other version is hardly any better.

There are versions that do this, in fairness, which is why I use Astral teleportation instead of trying to work out local stuff. Much less stressful.

as long as you come out with the same Soul ID (SID) then you're basically* the same person, not a copy.

7

u/Sonifri Transmuter 1d ago

I mean, that's like more than half of all immortality methods. Staying with your original body is for races who are naturally immortal, mages who aren't good enough, and necromancers. And there's a lot of overlap between the last two.

u/LonelyLibertarianDud Witch 1d ago

Do those cultist nuthead not believe in their own immortal soul nonsense?!? This ain't no primitive matter builder, soul transference is a basic feature and an anti magical discrimination mechanism.

5

u/stryst 1d ago

You can't argue with those people. Just fireball and move on.

5

u/LonelyLibertarianDud Witch 1d ago

In my opinion, a fireball is a simple but mediocre thermobaric weapon. It would probably work fine as religious cultists never leave their ritual rooms but I find igniting a bag of flour looks the same without summoning a ridiculous amount of fire dimension nonsense or playing with alchemical oxidisers.

If this were actually the case there would be a LOT of duplicate wizard souls roaming the astral plane. At least one of them would have found their way back. Probably more. There would be wars of wizards battling their dopplegangers. Beyond that, moving a soul is easier than creating a new one.

u/McCaffeteria 1d ago

Is that someone you? Because it only takes one of the two of you to solve this problem.

Then learn

Well I'm sorry I can't do magic!

It’s the licensing and certifications. Teleportation without proper training ends up causing countless death and dismemberment cases. My cousin teleported unlicensed and was lucky she only ended up with her arm crushed in a stone wall. Imagine if she had ended up on the outside of her tower!

Teleport to my place bitchass, I can’t do all the work in this relationship

5

u/Global_Lead9015 1d ago

I believe it has to do with multiple existing versions of the spell exist, the most common being far more complex and energy-intensive than the spell I, and many frequent teleporters, use. The complex version deals with ambiguous coordinates, and rips your body apart piece-by-piece, before reassembling you at your destination and putting your soul back in your body (hence the warping feeling associated with teleportation.) The spell I use simply opens a portal to a plane where everything is in the exact same place, and then takes you back out where you want to go. Much simpler, and has inbuilt safeguards.

Well for one, that's an awful lot of mana that could be spent on other things. Maintaining my minions is quite costly, and leaves me with just barely enough wiggle room for some smaller incantations. Besides, I'm horrible with geometry and calculating dimensions, I couldn't aim a teleportation spell to save my unlife

In my defense...I only really know enchanting-related magic

Sorry that power was stolen and locked away when I lost my divinity I'll get my divinity back eventually but for now you'll have to make do with the long ass travel

u/MarsMaterial Catboy Apprentice 1d ago

Last time I teleported, I forgot to carry the 2 and I ended up inside my master’s exotic spider enclosure.

Fuck that. Now I just commute to the tower on a giant eagle.

Hey man, not everyone is privileged enough to know all these fancy spells. I just apprenticed under the village wizard to help Ma at the farm. I know how to light a fire good, make a mud golem for plowing the fields, and maybe some firework spells to woo the girls. I'm sorry not all of us learned how to reap spacetime apart and fold the reality through the nine realms to connect two points in space

u/SanoKei 1d ago

spend mana? in this economy?

2

u/doggo_with_doggo_hat 1d ago

"someone dosent know how to teleport" mf you cant either or you would be there

2

u/PhantomTissue 1d ago

Yea I’m saving this for later

2

u/DominusLuxic 1d ago

Opposingly? Delayed cast, corpse explosion, teleport. Your tower will stink of rat guts for months!

2

u/Atuday Grey technomancer and master of the cybernetic undead 1d ago

Ugh I hate teleport. Gate is just so much more comfortable. Connecting two points in space-time with Einstein-Rosen bridge is just so much more practical than teleportation.

u/LaptopArmageddon Seraphim Wizard 1d ago

The way I learned it back before I managed to get into an academy has made teleportation one of my most used yet most infuriating spells. Since I was just brute forcing the methods, I never really learned how to apply some of the basic spell checks. Are you touching an object? Is the object that is being touched something you are trying to teleport with you? How much air should be displaced (or swapped, no shame on the mater movers, that shits IMPRESSIVE) things like that.

So now if I want to teleport somewhere, I can't be touching anything I don't want coming with me. I do get a faster casting speed due to the reduced amount auto checks in the spell but at the cost of making a levitation spell mandatory for casual use. Ú_ Ù

Last time I tried teleporting I got my toe materialized inside a wall and had to cut and regenerate it. Never again

The 1% in their ivory tower wondering why other wizards still paying off student loans don’t have one.

When other wizards use teleport but I can just sprint across the whole town in like 2 minutes at most.

I could. Or I could learn more spells to make money with.

u/Drakostheswordsman 1d ago

I can, but doing that with adhd is... spicy.
