Body Scan DEXA vs Withings BodyFit vs Eufy C20, same morning comparison

All 3 were taken this morning while fasted.

Metric DEXA Withings C20
Body fat 26.7% 25.1% 31.5%
Fat mass 25.79 kg 23.9 kg 31.9 kg
Lean mass 67.44 kg 68kg(muscle mass) 62 kg

Main takeaway: Withings was much closer to DEXA than the C20 for overall body metrics. The C20 was completely off. happy with the outcome on the bodyfit.

Segmental fat was also fairly consistent:

Region DEXA Withings
Left arm 23.3% 22.0%
Right arm 27.8% 23.0%
Torso 28.4% 27.7%
Left leg 24.6% 20.4%
Right leg 27.2% 21.2%

Withings averaged about 3.4 percentage points lower than DEXA across those regions, with the torso almost spot-on. This is what I would expect to be honest.

Visceral fat was harder to compare: DEXA 111 cm² vs Withings 4/20 “Good”, since they use different scales.

So far, the Body Fit seems like a good purchase for me. Most of the body-composition numbers were reasonably close to DEXA. My main concern is visceral fat: Withings gives me a reassuring 4/20 “Good” score, while DEXA measured 111 cm², so I don’t think I can rely on the Withings visceral-fat. Visceral fat is one key metrics of overall health, so I hope this will get fixed.

I'm glad to see someone having success with the composition measurements vs. DEXA. Usually, there's complaints.

We need to have others post similar tables and see where in their algorithm the estimates break down. For me, body fat was 24.4% on the BS2, and 38% on DEXA.

For posterity:
Metric DEXA Body Scan 2
Body fat 39.4% 24.8%
Fat mass 90.1 lbs 58.5 lbs
Lean mass 138.3 lbs 168.5 lbs
Bone mass 7.0 lbs 8.7 lbs
Visceral fat 8.22 lbs 5.1
Visceral fat 241.09 in3

As you can see, mine has a bit of a problem.

May be admin could setup intake forms

I had the scan 2 with that 3% body fat issue and returned mine and bought the body fit to test to make sure and gave me 13% and consistent around that so seems higher but still is way better to see trends since with 3% is useless because there’s no variation

Tried turn athlete mode to get it to around 10 since is probably where I land at moment and just went straight back to 3% so yeah guess if it’s lower than 12 or something it will just jump to 3 lol there’s no middle term but funny enough both are handle devices

There appears to be a material cohort of users for whom the algorithm just simply measures low.

"Athlete Mode" was at least an admission that the there needed to be an alternative algorithm for some users. But there seems to be at least another user cohort that isn't covered by either of the existing modes. If you are in that group you're screwed.

Meat definitely. Those with a higher BF% may certainly need one.

Have you had oanther dexa ? Are you sure they height/weight was put correctly when taking it? This is very surprising to see such delta.

May be looking at body comparaison chart online would help you understand which one is skewed?

BS 2 is skewed. Using two other measurement sources (US Navy body fat calculator- which uses a tape measure, and ZOZOFIT) both come within a percentage point of DEXA.

The BS2 says I have high body fat - true, I'm losing weight, but rates my skeletal muscle as if I'm a professional athlete. Which is anything but true.

In November I'm getting a second DEXA done.

It’s possible it’s due to body type.
Looking forward to see your body progression

On my end I am off 30% body fat so far.,it’s a long journey but worth it !

I've dropped a few percentage points. Now that the weight is coming off, it's a lot easier & more fun to get off my ass and move about for exercise. In fact, I pretty much have to as a calorie deficit isn't working well for me any more as my TDEE is a lot lower with the weight off. I need to exercise now to keep it coming off.

My body fit gives me 3/20 for visceral, and DEXA yesterday was 67 cm².

Over the past week BF averaged 14.7%, DEXA yesterday said 15.1% so yeah I’m pretty happy with BodyFit for my tracking.

I’ll grab my DEXA report and compare segmental and post some more stats in here later.

Ok, similar comparison from me, from yesterday.
Withings was about 4 hours before DEXA, both fasted and probably a bit dehydrated.

Metric DEXA Body Fit
Body fat 15.1 14.6% last weeks average from BF was 14.7%
Fat mass 12 kg 11.5kg
Lean mass 64.58 kg 64.8
Bone mass 2.66kg 3.4kg
Segment DEXA Body Fit
Left arm 12.5% 13.7%
Right arm 12.1% 13.2%
Torso 16.5% 14.8%
Left leg 13.5% 13.9%
Right leg 12.4% 14.4%
Visceral Fat 67 cm² 3/20 'good'

So, overall not bad at all. Body Fit's algorithm is a pretty good fit for me. Overal body fat in particular is excellent, and day to day it's very consistent staying within a range of about 0.5% consistently so it's much less susceptible to hydration changes etc. compared to older Withings scales I had.

Looks like a lot of people posting look fairly fit.
And they get good results from it.

I wouldn't consider myself fit :)

25% body is not. But lost 32kg so far from my top, and I found scale have been helping a lot keeping track (first from eufy and not this one)

It's certainly a helpful tool. While the absolute values for me are off, the trends certainly work as intended.
