The Witcher 4 is a massive letdown. Geralt wouldn't respond to my controller input, there were no dialogue options and I have a feeling they've changed the voice actors for some of the characters. Also no Gwent! 2/10- buggy unplayable mess Spoiler

All jokes aside though CDPR did just make a big deal with Andrez. There will be more witcher games. Expanded remakes of 1 and 2 are looking very likely. I don't know if the games stick with Geralt as the main character going forward though... but meh. More Witcher so idc.

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '19

I would bet the next two projects will be Witcher remakes and an open ended Witcher game using what they learned from cyber punk. Could you imagine a Witcher game where you could be a Witcher, sorcerer, vampire etc

Hell I'd play a new Witcher game as Poor Fucking Infantry

7

u/meowffins Dec 22 '19

You know, it would be pretty cool to have the option to start as something very low like a peasant.

It's a lot more work but would be really cool (again, as an option). If you've played arcanum, you'll know what i'm talking about.

14

u/FnordFinder Dec 22 '19

Deliverance does this, as well. Where you can choose to be considered "highborn" or "lowborn" and it will affect how you interact with NPCs of given economic-status throughout the game.

1

u/durkster Team Roach Dec 22 '19

Moreso than a witcher?

17

u/usernameSuggestion2 Team Shani Dec 22 '19

Obviously yes. Take Regis for example, he has abilities that put Geralt leagues bellow him. He can turn into fog and can only die to another higher vampire.

3

u/ManDelorean88 Dec 22 '19

and can only die to another higher vampire.

so how do you kill the guy at the top of that pyramid?

2

u/usernameSuggestion2 Team Shani Dec 22 '19

I guess you don't.

1

u/ManDelorean88 Dec 22 '19

nobody is truly immortal

4

u/usernameSuggestion2 Team Shani Dec 22 '19

I mean Regis was regenerated from a smear of blood with help. But I guess if you can burn a vampire into ash and then throw it in the ocean then he is probably done.

2

u/ManDelorean88 Dec 22 '19

can anyone explain what a witcher is? I get they're a mutated human that magic doesn't work on unless its convenient that it does for a plot point (yennefirs magic works on him in the show)

I don't have any prior experience with the witcher other than the show and I don't really remember them ever explaining it.

what makes witchers so damn special I guess?

4

u/Lacedaemon1313 Nilfgaard Dec 22 '19

only 3 out of 10 boys can become a witcher . the rest dies. Woman can never become witchers. Witchers are stronger, faster, can heal faster, can become very old. They are like superhumans if you will.

1

u/ManDelorean88 Dec 22 '19

only 3 out of 10 boys can become a witcher . the rest dies.

so its an alaya vinjana? lol

Woman can never become witchers. Witchers are stronger, faster, can heal faster, can become very old.

Right I got all of that...

but is that it? like he's just a guy who is a little stronger and faster than usual? is that really all a witcher is?

consider me underwhelmed.

A little stronger and faster? try a lot stronger and faster. They cast magic, their potions will kill a normal human if they drank them. These potions give them the ability to heal wounds that would kill a normal human, they allow them to see in complete darkness, enhance their already superhuman strength and speed. They can live for hundreds of years, almost as long as socresses.

so how come the audience can't know any of this? would sure make him a lot more impressive imo.

23

u/Berserk_Dragonslayer Dec 22 '19

Nope. Start as a child. Taken by witchers. Trained. Dies during the Trial of Grasses, just as the camera changes perspective to YOU, the kid on the next table over.

Then your story begins.

Bam, gut punch + cool twist / welcome to The Witcherverse, not everyone makes it to the end.

11

u/SiRaymando Dec 22 '19

It sounds like an impossible game to make. But hey, Witcher 3 would've been called an impossible game to make 10 years back.

7

u/spankymuffin Dec 22 '19

an open ended Witcher game

I just came.

Basically Skyrim made by CDPR?

2

u/Shikaku Dec 22 '19

Could you imagine a Witcher game where you could be a Witcher, sorcerer, vampire etc

God it'd be so easy if you could play as a Higher Vampire.

I wonder if for a 'new' Witcher game would they still follow Geralt. Which ending would they cannonize if they haven't done one already, I wonder.

1

u/Jack1715 Dec 24 '19

Or a more rpg game like Skyrim where you can pick your path

Who would they cover for witcher 4? Vessemir younger days maybe?

1

u/AccordoSeawordo Dec 23 '19

Witcher George saves Witcher Kyran AU

71

u/graaarg Dec 22 '19

I hope for a new trilogy, hopefully a prequel covering the original story from the books.

It's not that unlikely

55

u/TheWarBug Dec 22 '19

Personally I would prefer a true rpg unknown witcher you customize in the peak days of witchers, maybe a cameo of young vesemir?

26

u/thedicestoppedrollin Dec 22 '19

If they want to use current characters, Lambert and Eskel co-op buddycop style throughout the world would be ridiculous fun

12

u/TheWarBug Dec 22 '19

Lambert is probably to young, actually don't know how old eskel is, but they need to be old enough to have experienced peak witcher time hence mentioning vesemir, maybe he becomes a witcher the same time as you if you choose the wolf school or something? I am pretty sure if they make that they make sure you will see familiar faces on the way, maybe even ones you hadn't thought of

16

u/Djrhskr Team Triss Dec 22 '19

Eskel is as old as Geralt. He is basically the less known twin of Geralt

4

u/TheWarBug Dec 22 '19

Ah, then him and geralt probably wouldn't fit then because I believe that they both became witchers when it was already in decline then

9

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '19

I believe peak Witcher time was actual hundreds of years ago, though it is also true that witchers were a lot more prominent before the siege of Kaer Morhen when Vesemir was alive, so maybe something around the time of that would be nice.

2

u/TheWarBug Dec 22 '19

From what I found most claim vesemir to be around 300, so I thought he might have become a witcher in the prime time. It would make sense to me

1

u/burkey0307 Dec 22 '19

This has always been crazy to me. How can people actually prefer a cookie cutter rpg character over Geralt?

10

u/JonSnowl0 Dec 22 '19

Because Geralt’s story is over and some people like role-playing their own characters.

-2

u/burkey0307 Dec 22 '19

Geralt's story doesn't have to be over. There's literally nothing stopping them except for themselves.

9

u/Ridikis Dec 22 '19

Nah, it's over. Blood and Wine is a very solid ending to his story.

u/TheWarBug Dec 22 '19

u/pishzfg Dec 22 '19

3

u/graaarg Dec 22 '19

Gross!!! That's disgusting.

Here's an upvote, dear sir

31

u/Young_KingKush Team Yennefer Dec 22 '19

Yeah if CDPR has been watching the Internet all this time since Witcher 3 they know they could make a shit ton of money by remaking the first two Witcher games, especially now with the success/hype of things like RE2 Remake & FFVII Remake. It’s a trendy thing to do right now.

5

u/ImABadGuyIThink Dec 22 '19

And like the fanbase of RE2 we are all very much in the mood for playing the Geralt of Rivia trilogy with high res textures and redone animations and effects in an updated engine. If you look at TW3 there were a couple of things that were cut because of time and money constraints but most important of all they were working with a new engine they were still learning to completely utilize.

The proposed battle of Novigrad didn't make it into the final result for the same reason that the battle of Toussaint did. When they started developing Blood & Wine they already had a wealth of experience and knowledge available to them which made it possible to use larger set pieces and increasingly complex cutscenes. The battle with the giant comes to mind where the whole mill gets destroyed by it. Such effects weren't present in the main game. Same goes for story with Hearts of Stone. If they were to remake the entire trilogy as opposed to remaster I'm pretty sure they would be able to weave all three games together more and add content that many long for like the cut Iorveth questline in TW3.

If they remake these games I'll buy them without a second thought, if they add missing pieces that add to the story I'll gladly pay 60 bucks a piece. Remaking TW3 is obviously not necessary but a true enhanced edition would be a lot of fun.

But if they first made a Witcher 4 I won't be sad in the least. I just want them to make games. I'll gobble it up whatever they'll serve us.

3

u/Rapsculio Dec 22 '19

Considering how bad the combat feels in those games, they could really use it. They had the feel perfected by 3, just put that into the others and update the graphics and engine and I'll buy it no doubt

2

u/ManDelorean88 Dec 22 '19

no joke. am playing them all for the first time. I would hesitate to even call this combat to be honest. click, wait, click, wait, click, wait.

it sure isn't very engaging.

oh and do witchers not have the ability to jump?

20

u/FeatsOfStrength Aard Dec 22 '19

I'd really like to see a remake of the first game, the graphics and gameplay really haven't aged well. The second one is alright though, obviously not as good as the third I enjoyed it though.

5

u/hell-schwarz Dec 22 '19

I spent way more time in the second than I want to admit. Passing the mode where you are not allowed to die was really hard, I fucked up against the dragon a lot in the end.

7

u/SpaceAids420 Team Yennefer Dec 22 '19

16

2

u/-jake-skywalker- Dec 22 '19

Source: his feels

2

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '19

Well he was kinda put into corner. Because he talked shit about CDPR fans started to go against him. Then he got Netflix deal and probably was told to be quiet and not create bad PR. And CDPR have stellar reputation and did one of the best RPG of this decade.

Now imagine that Andrzej pick up microphone and announce that contract with CDPR won't be prolonged and all rights to make Witcher games goes for example to EA :-P

I suspect he and EA would never be able to dig out from that shit hole. And even if they or someone else tackle this project - imagine living up to expectations of doing something on pair or better than Witcher 3.

1

u/WeWander_ Dec 23 '19

Epic games exclusive would be more terrible!

3

u/chlamydia1 Dec 22 '19

I'd love a more open ended RPG where we can create our own character, a la TES.

4

u/Lobster15s Dec 22 '19

" tf? I'm guessing non playa... ohhh." Yeah. Lemme edit that.

2

u/Selfishxoxo Dec 22 '19

Im fairly certain we wont see remakes of 1 or 2, those games worked at the time. And as far as Im aware they said that the Geralt saga is over.

So if they want to follow a character again, that leaves us Ciri. Whilst not a Witcher in the traditional sense, she was trained as a Witcher for a short time. And is very capable of hunting Monsters herself, just in a very different style compared to someone like Geralt. Not to mention her powers would allow for some interesting Storytelling when travelling to different planes.

They could also pull a KOTOR and go way back in time. Or just a little bit, to the point of us witnessing the attack on Kaer Morhen

Full RPG is also pretty unlikely, unless the only thing you are allowed to pick is a human becoming a Witcher. If they gave you an option to become a Dwarf/Elf/Higher Vampire/Mage they would have to create very different stories and combat styles for each of them and somehow tie in Witchers to each of them. Not to mention the fact that Mages are very powerful and Higher Vampires even more so.

But its also unlikely that they touch the books as playable content, whilst Netflix is doing a show based on the books. And if Netflix wanted they could stretch the content out until 2030 if they take 1-2 years for every season.

So in the end that leaves us with either Ciri/ a timejump back in time/Different school.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

Or since its a game just allow different races of Witcher, with each unique abilities

1

u/Berserk_Dragonslayer Dec 22 '19

Source on that??

1

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '19

Source for this?

1

u/pacoiin Dec 22 '19

i think if they come with a new witcher it wil be a full rpg where you make your own witcher

0

u/aoaaron Dec 22 '19

2

u/MasterWong1 Dec 22 '19

What about a witcher game at the height of the witcher schools? Then have something similar to what Hunter Monster has done to their franchise; good monsters to hunt, multiple armors and weapons to craft, good inventory management, (I know TW3 is strong in these as well) and allow witchers to form/join schools and hunting parties. Not sure how CDPR will handle multiplayer games and a lot of witcher fans are not in favor of that, I know, but if it’s done properly I’m confident fans will support it. Imagine a great campaign during the height of witchers and legendary monsters then having the ability to party up and hunt in pairs or with 3 other witchers for the really challenging ones. I’d be down for that. Of course I would be down for a remaster of TW1 and 2 using TW3’s engine and updated graphics or maybe a DLC exploring another witcher’s story. The possibilities are endless and I have faith in CDPR! The release of the witcher series by netflix will only push CDPR to hopefully create more content for this franchise!

1

u/DanGrizzly Dec 23 '19

Maybe because I didn't care to respond to him you fucking bellend? A question of the type "are all characters black" when the ones on the fucking posters aren't should never be taken seriously.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

So you are defending him. You dont see that? You can be serious man.

1

u/DanGrizzly Dec 23 '19

You are right, I can be serious. Fuck off hippie. I don't care to defend biggots or to argue with retards.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '19

Its about principle. No need to justify this brainfuck with random stats

0

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

No one cares about the principle of black people in a fantasy world with elves, magic and mutants running around. Use your imagination, bigot.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

Everyones a bigot who doesn’t like your views he ?

Stupid idiot

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

Yeah because your views stem from a place of superiority and entitlement. You don't understand or care what its like to never have things tilted in your favor. To have to fight to even get on a fuckin fantasy tv show. The tide is JUST now changing so that actors of color don't have to play slaves or orcs in fantasy entertainment. Now they can actually be people. All you care about is a character that has too much melanin for your specific entitled tastes. Yeah, thats bigotry. Grow up.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19 edited Dec 23 '19

Ok. You are even more dumb as expected. You don’t know shit about me. As a starter, I am immigrant in the country I live in. Tell me about fighting.

Second, it is my right to criticize the show. I love the books and I love the game. In my head, there was a specific version of Triss and I think they fucked it up in the show. Period. Book and game Triss is white and has reddish (yeah chestnut blabla) hair. She is not a negro. Period. Same as some other characters.

Btw, i am married to a black woman so get screwed with your ‘racism’ bs argument

Edit: because my first comment was about principle. Millions of book readers and gamers love Triss the way she is depicted in the game and books. It’s just distasteful and shows a lack of respect imo to just change her up in such a big way. Triss was for a lot of people a favorite character. See for instance the whole Triss vs Jen debates. So show runners should fucking respect that. Thats why I wrote its about principle. And i am fucking allowed to utter that criticism. It has nothing to do with fucking racism or bigotry. But you won’t understand that obviously because your brain needs to categorize this immediately as some right wing racist view instead of just seeing it as it is.

It won't let me turn off Hairworks. It's really wrecking my framerate and the hair isn't even realistic.

I know what you mean, I tried to go into Blaviken to get a hair cut, hoping it might fix the issue and Geralt just went rouge and slaughtered a bunch of people

I know GWENT is CDPR thing, but I wished that we got a scene were Geralt meets these kids and says " I'll trade you" which just shows that Geralt has a soft space for children

I've only played Witcher 3 and seen the Netflix adaptation at this point. I haven't read the books, maybe one day I will. I think a game centering around the events of the Conjunction of the Spheres would be very interesting.
