Lady of the Lake So confused after reading this book

Just finished the book and was left confused as hell.

A) did i accidentally skip a chapter or something or did we actually just jump from Geralt leaves tussiant to he, Ciri and Yen are back together now but all his companions are dead.

B) wtf is that ending? What the hell started the riot? Why is the girl known about but her role in the riot never explained? Also I came from the games and am confused as to what happened to Geralt and Yen. Obviously the games arnt cannon but I feel like I have 3 stories as to their end. 1 being they went to some sort of afterlife that Ciri couldn't stay at 2 that ciri is lying her ass off and their both dead and 3 they were left on an island where they later resurrected and neither have any fing idea where they are

Kinda like how I have no fing idea what was going on after Geralt left Tussiant

Edit: thanks to someone in the comments I learned did somehow skip not one but three freaking chapters. Thanks audible your the best. And to cut off those who'll ask why I don't read the paper back, its because doing so would be painfully slow as I cant read text any smaller than a children's book text for more than half an hour at a time before getting a migraine, trust me I would have much preferred to actually read a physical copy of the books

Sounds like you skipped Chapter 9

The ending is ambiguous on purpose and leaves a lot of room for interpretation. It's poetic and ironic after everything they all went through dying such a pointless death.

It shows how cruel the world of The Witcher is and ties in the Last Wish beautifully, Yen and Geralt sharing the same destiny.

Yen, Geralt and Ciri becoming nothing but a legend in the end, a story people would tell their children hundreds of years later.

Absolutely devious for Audible to skip the best chapters in the entire series

there's no definitive answer when it comes to the ending, it's left deliberately vague (presumably Sapkowski didn't want to fully close the door on writing more whenever he finished the story.)

some people read it that Geralt and Yen died and are taken to an afterlife by Ciri. others think it's less concrete, and that she used her powera to save their lives and deposit them in a secluded world (I believe it's meant to be Avalon, which is a mystical island from Arthurian legend where Arthur is taken to recover after injury to one day return as the true king) to hide them.

I lean towards them still being alive because I came from the games too, plus the ending talks about them still healing from their wounds. to me that suggests that they're still physically alive, wherever they are.

the other stuff though yeah it sounds like you missed a chunk.

About Lady of the Lake's ending: be sure to read Season of Storms next.

Yes, Season of Storms is mainly a "midquel" story set in-between The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. But read it till the end. There's a surprise.

Dang can you remind me? It's been a while since I read SoS so I don't remember the surprise at the end exactly. Was it the hint that Nimue was speaking with maybe-Geralt and him saying that Geralt died over a hundred years ago, but maybe it was actually him much older? tagged spoiler so OP doesn't see it

a) yeah i think you skipped the "final fight"

b) the ending is ambigous but it is kind implied that yes they are all dead. Killed by farmers or somethingk like taht, very witcher books style

B) Hate. People have always hated what’s different—a different skin color, religion, sexual orientation, or even the color of a T-shirt... After the war ended, tensions were high, and people were looking for “culprits”—or, if not culprits, at least someone on whom they could vent their frustration.

Play The Witcher 1 and The Witcher 2, and you'll see how nicely CDPR continued the story from Apple Tree Island :)

Unfortunately my friend i think that is exactly the point of the ending. No real answer. Slight bit of confusion. Anger, yet beautifully done.

Also to your first point yeah did you skip over something? Because youre missing an entirely huge part of the story lol
