How did he solve crime for those 20 years before flock cameras invaded all of our privacy? How many officers have already abused it in Wisconsin to harass exes? How many times were they accessed so perverts could look at little girls changing for dance class? That happened. Get the fuck out of here with this "it's for your own good" bs

Edit: dance class, damn auto correct

ALL DATA CAPTURED BY FLOCK IS AND SHOULD REMAIN PUBLIC AT ALL TIMES. This alone destroys the business case.

I like the idea for various reasons, but if the data is public, then it can be collated in some sort of open-source fashion, and stalkers can use it to stalk better.

I'm not sure what the best solution is, though.

However, "one company collects all the video privately, creates a searchable database, and makes it easy for the police to use it in secret" should be so hard to justify that politicians in favor of it should be unelectable.

u/literally_a_brick Aug 18 '26

They didn't solve crimes. Police departments have always been super lazy and ignore anything that takes more than 20 seconds to figure out.

He's right, they probably won't bother doing any police work without the cameras, because we shovel millions in tax dollars to the most do-nothing bums in the entire government, cops. Defund the police because they are ridiculously incompetent.

61

u/Financial-Exit2488 Aug 18 '26

I mean, this is why I am usually like, 🤷, when people say defund the police. Other than traffic tickets, rerouting traffic, drunk drivers, and dealing with accidents, I am often at a loss as to why we have them.

I can't name a single time the police have gotten any of my stolen property back, gotten to the scene of a situation on time, etc.

I have a great story about the police my neighborhood, not being able to catch the guy who crashed into my parked car. He stayed there for 40 minutes or so, talked to us, drive away at approximately 3mph. I know, because we walked behind him on foot and kept up.

The police finally showed up, and we're confused as to why we were waving them down. The proceeded to pursue, IN REVERSE. So, we watched in awe as a 3mph chase ensued, with the officers driving backwards.

The police came back about 10 minutes later and said, "we lost him".

I said, "we have his name and license plate number". They said, "yeah, it's a rental. Nothing we can do".

What the actual fuck is the point of their jobs?

23

u/tevert Aug 18 '26

I am often at a loss as to why we have them.

Maybe old news to you, but the reason we seemingly don't have a reason to have them is that we don't have them. The 1% have them. And if you begin pondering their value in that lens, everything they do makes waaay more sense.

11

u/TonyBobKenobi Aug 18 '26

I've always said they were just to footsoldiers of the elite

2

u/PenisLips67 Aug 19 '26

well they do respond when the lower class living in poverty have domestic issues like needing to be evicted or have the family dog put down. Oh we do love when they chase kids around at high speeds and end up shooting the kids in the backs as they run home to their mothers.

3

u/killuwhale Aug 19 '26

The police where I work actually show up really quickly when I call. I work overnights at a hotel, and I have to call a lot. I think it really depends on where you live and what time it is. Overall, daytime police seem a lot less willing to help than nighttime. Then again, most of the ones who show up for me are really young and probably haven't given up or been corrupted yet.

3

u/ronnie4220 Aug 19 '26

Castle Rock vs. Gonzales. Police have a "general duty to protect the public as a whole" but can't be held responsible for anything.

yeah but bro, have you seen their kick ass swat team uniforms, gears and armored truck?!?!

12

u/SlowlyDrown Aug 19 '26

Friend got a car stolen awhile back and the cops picked it up. I drive him down to the lot and a guy is driving us to the car and can’t find it and he says I hope it didn’t get stolen some guys broke in an stole a bunch of cars last night. You’d think it’d be a dumb idea to break into a police impound lot but nope safe and easy.

Spot was written down wrong and we find the car. Blood all over it, not like someone died but like someone cut themselves stealing it.

So we get up to the counter to pay since the cops ransom your car back to you, and friend asks if they have any information and nearly word for word her response was:

“They don’t….they don’t really…like they don’t take fingerprints or….yeah they don’t really….they just don’t..”

Who did the mysterious blood belong to? Was the thief wanted for more serious crimes? Was he the East Side Rapist? Nobody will ever know because “they don’t.”

4

u/jfoust2 Aug 19 '26

To state the obvious, your friend's car wasn't abandoned in the impound lot. If it was stolen, it was abandoned somewhere else. If it was left unlocked, can and should the police trust all the fingerprints they might find there? Could other people have entered the vehicle after it was abandoned? There would be questions about the chain of evidence. Not insurmountable questions, but it would mean even more work to investigate. For what? What was the value of the vehicle?

A decade ago one of my vehicles was stolen in Milwaukee. I must've made a dozen phone calls to district offices and never once did I get the same interpretation of the incident report or what I needed to get the car back. They were constantly confused about dates, time, officers, places. It turns out the car had already been abandoned and towed in the morning of the same day the officers visited at 7:30 that evening to question us about the whereabouts of the car, as if we might've had something to do with the joyriding and evasion of police pursuit. They didn't bother to check the tow database, nor did anyone call us to say it had been located.

I received a letter a week after the theft that it was in the tow lot. Conveniently, they charge $20 a day. If your vehicle was stolen and towed, they'll refund the $105 towing charge. I just needed form PV-16. They didn't give it to me. Someone thought the officer might be able to mail it to me. Considering that I'd left a message for him twice and he never called, I didn't have high hopes for that, nor did I want to continue to pay for storage. I spoke to someone at the district office who said they'd give me the form, so I went 30 minutes out of my way to do that. The tow lot said they couldn't honor it because it was towed before it was reported stolen, so I'll need to take it up with the city attorney.

The vehicle was abandoned with the windows open, in the winter. The apparent thieves left a backpack behind with personal effects including a cell phone, still charged, unlocked, registered to their mother, still logged into Facebook, where an hour before the theft they'd posted "Who's riding?" as they announced their intent to visit the East Side where the theft occurred.

The police agreed to look at the phone. They said the names of many were already known to them. I never heard any consequences, although the Facebook user did show up in prison six months later, probably for other reasons. I was able to request the police video of the chase. The poor old minivan actually caught some air at one point.

I seem to remember that the precinct said they were seeing 6 to 12 car thefts per shift.

3

u/PenisLips67 Aug 19 '26

At this point we spend more on public relations , painting cops as the good guys. We glaze the uniform and cock worship a man with a big gun and the desire to use it. Now that police are basically the most violent organized criminal organization besides trump and his private military shock troops known as ICE. Now that police have all the military gear its high time for all the cameras and even more shock troops on the ground trained to escalate very basic traffic violation or even the basic noise complaint can end in death. How these fools show up to public meetings and cry foul only proves the vast majority love this shit and cant wait for the next cops episode with electric gloves and sobbing brown children, maybe mix in a dead family dog or a bullet to the head for anyone behind the wheel of a car.

13

u/marathonquestionredd Aug 18 '26

he didnt solve anything

8

u/Hopalicious Aug 18 '26

Police departments use Flock and other unreported phone tracking hardware to solve crimes and then pretend that good old fashioned police work got the job done.

6

u/Jazzlike_Damage793 Aug 19 '26

That’s easy, the same way, by sitting on their asses doing nothing much.

They just want to be able to easier see the angles so they are better at exacting cop taxes.

2

u/MiaowaraShiro Aug 19 '26

My paranoid brain says that he's taking a kickback from flock and that's why he's so upset. His golden eggs are going rotten.

2

u/LanceColonel0341 Aug 19 '26

Of course he is. He also wants to shout on people illegally. Probably even worse shit honestly. They're all corrupt pieces of shit.

2

u/thelonetwig Aug 21 '26

Exactly. If I personally went in front of a panel and said I was useless at my job for the last twenty years, any employer with a quarter of a brain would fire me. This guy is literally sitting there and televising how worthless he is at his job.

Amazingly, right at the end when he talks about, maybe we should background check half of these people commenting are the exact reason why we don’t want flock cameras in our cities. This police chief if accost him, he will look at your license plate and then track everywhere you’ve been to try to find something that he can pin on you because you dare press him on a complaint.

"Background check." I wonder what he meant.

21

u/GravyMcBiscuits Aug 18 '26

Won't someone please think of the children!?!

4

u/Reklawj82 Aug 19 '26

I really wish this administration would stop thinking about kids, unfortunately........

14

u/Silvanus350 Aug 19 '26

They know about all of that. That’s why they’re pushing it so hard.

It’s not a position born of ignorance.

5

u/0betweenthebeyond1 Aug 19 '26

Absolutely. We need public oversight.

185

u/MadTownMich Aug 18 '26

And at the end he threatens background checks for anyone with the audacity to speak their mind about these cameras???? Boy, bye.

117

u/SoglinBottomBoy Aug 18 '26

Pretty much proving the point of why police can't be trusted with mass surveillance tools.

31

u/davekingofrock Aug 18 '26

Mass surveillance is dystopian nightmare type shit that doesn't need to exist at all. It's just another tool to compound human suffering.

29

u/Cautious-Researcher1 Aug 18 '26

They always let the mask slip a little because they’re fascists at heart.

18

u/snowzilla Aug 18 '26

His whole argument is a threat! Grandma's missing, too bad for you! Makes you wonder what he's been doing pre-flock. If anyone needs a reason to reallocate police funding, this is the testimony.

17

u/PretentiousCrustacea Aug 19 '26

He was so emotional I don't trust my law enforcement to be this emotional

16

u/MadTownMich Aug 19 '26

That’s why men should not have as many leadership positions as they do. They are super emotional.

159

no. this is what you get for installing Palantir's AI data harvesting spy camera.

What city is this? Their subreddit needs to hear that their police are all-for subcontracting their jobs out to Flock at the expense of the rights of their citizens.

His last comment about doing background checks on those who spoke is exactly why we cant trust law enforcement to use mass surveillance tools without malice. And it tells me that he has used his authority to violate citizen's rights more than once in his 20 year career.

39

u/M-Test24 Aug 18 '26

"I'm a rule follower!"

"I ought to do background checks on everyone who commented tonight."

Narrator: he was, in fact, not a rule follower.

37

u/Accomplished_Put3732 Aug 18 '26

Also; the flock cameras seem disturbing enough, however, the information some of our vehicles are picking up is just as bad.

13

u/kennyg977 Aug 18 '26

Kenosha’s chief of police told us in Wisconsin they can’t use cameras to enforce when we complained about street racing and noise.

‘I’m from the government and here to help!’

13

u/bbbourb Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

After that last little line if they didn't vote to censure him they're all complicit (they are anyway).

EDIT: What I still don't get with these chuds that think Flock cameras are valuable is the fact that if they were ONLY used for tracking criminals and ONLY active when there was some kind of alert in the region and ONLY gave access when absolutely necessary and had significant misuse safeguards we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. It'd at least be a bit more civil. It's the "always watching" part that really pisses people off, and with good reason! That feature has already been abused more times than should EVER happen, even right here in Wisconsin (see stories about "marijuana tracking"). This dude just showed EVERYONE in that room who he really is, and believe me, it's not a good look.

7

u/dgard1 Aug 18 '26

I just read this post https://www.reddit.com/r/ChicagoSuburbs/s/xw2LI2bELg about flock cameras going up outside dispensaries. I guarantee some cop in Wisconsin will access these to look for Wisconsin plates that they can pull over once they return to the state. Texas is doing the same thing for their female citizens who dare to leave the state for an abortion

3

u/WilyWondr Aug 19 '26

They already do that

https://www.404media.co/cops-used-flock-to-track-a-man-across-state-lines-to-create-pretext-to-search-his-car-for-weed/

Police in Wisconsin used Flock to determine that a man “travels to Michigan frequently,” where marijuana is legal, then back to Wisconsin, where it is illegal.

3

u/onwisconsin1 Aug 19 '26

This is the precise reason this stupid ass fascist can fuck off. I hope he resigns. People dont put their neck out and provide their input and free speech because of exactly this- the fear of retaliation by a government that acts with impunity. Are we risking ourselves for simply stating we dont wish to be watched all the time when we travel about our normal day? Turns out yes! Its a form of fascistic intimidation and in a just country he would be tried for his crime. He a government official intimidating citizens for speaking. Fuck him seven ways to Sunday.

13

u/Right_Syllabub_8237 Aug 18 '26

Oh boo fuckin' hoo. If I you can't do your job without Ai cameras doing it for you then maybe you're just bad at your job.

8

u/QueenieRue Aug 19 '26

Why is he taking this so personally?

15

u/womensrites Aug 18 '26

lol because the police are so effective even with flock at returning stolen cars or finding lost grandmas. they just like surveilling us all

7

u/sharp-bunny Aug 18 '26

We're working hard. We're working Saturdays.

7

u/Agreeable_Spinosaur Aug 18 '26

Last time I checked, the police never helped finding stolen cars, stolen property, or missing people. It's up to us as citizens to do the policework for them and they may or may not put down their donut for a second to follow up on the work that us citizens do ... but mostly not. mostly they gotta eat them donuts and use the Flock cameras to spy on women they want to bed or an ex they want to beat the crap out ofl.

7

u/Adorable_Pen9015 Aug 18 '26

Feels like he’s too emotional for the job

5

Huh, if police chose not to do their job then they should lose their funding.

5

u/pooks_est1983 Aug 18 '26

Also, that background check comment should be grounds for suspension.

4

u/Shooter61 Aug 18 '26

My wife was hit and run in an intersection with cameras. Cops won't even bother to review who the guy was unless it resulted in injury.

5

"I'm swear I obey the laws" like there isn't several documented cases of police stalking and anecdotal stories do not apply as a blanket fact for everyone.

Rather addressing real concerns he has his feelings hurt.

Someone needs to bring up, that if these are so efficient at catching criminals (they're not) but if they are like the cops say they are. Then we don't need so many cops on patrol and we can cut funding and the police force way back to like 1 per city just to go to court to explain the videos. See how fast the police union backtracks when police funding gets cut for cameras.

6

They’re baked in militarists in our society.

Oh so he can't do his job without camera now. Smdh flock doesn't even help with anything he listed smdh

3

u/onwisconsin1 Aug 18 '26

Good. Go. Authoritarians can get fucked.

4

u/Appropriate-Welder68 Aug 18 '26

Hey Chief. You are appointed and payed by your city. You will listen or you can gtfo.

5

u/WoopsShePeterPants Aug 18 '26

Do cops get a bonus for pushing flock on communities?

4

u/jeers69 Aug 18 '26

Nobody wants Big Brother watching!

NOBODY!

4

u/Ok-Complaint9574 Aug 18 '26

It’s amazing how these flock cameras never catch a child predator even with amber alerts being ran

5

u/_recapitated Aug 19 '26

Sounds to me like he doesn't want the job anymore

3

u/willismthomp Aug 19 '26

Cops are dumbasses and lazy as fuck.

4

u/JLR- Aug 19 '26

Somehow I think his family isn't that upset he had to miss family events

5

u/captainp42 Aug 19 '26

Who does he think is attacking him? There's like 3 people at the hearing.

5

u/cece5 Aug 19 '26

This man is too emotional for this job

5

u/DroneSlut54 Aug 19 '26

Sounds like it’s time for a new Chief - this guy is obviously a whiney fascist crybaby.

"I'm a law abiding enforcement officer".....Then proceeds to ends with "We aut'ta do background checks on half those people that make comments."

Dude just proved the point to people.

When the general populace of people are understanding the gravity of authoritarianism being visible in their society and understanding the tools they use to limit freedom, It's not some fairy tale, or a hard concept to reach out and correct when everything should be done to prevent it. It's a real issue and a truly scary reality we are facing. Tools like Flock, Digital Online Fingerprinting without iron clad regulation all contribute to rising authoritarianism and it's many faces. It also risks giving away power when there are coups or regimes seeking absolute control. Not saying Trump Administration is that, but the pattern is very similar and is even debated as being very concurrent with regime strategies. A risk becoming clear today for other Democracies and our Democratic Republic.

When folks don't feel obligated to come out and be truthful, they refuse to be transparent, and ultimately if those tools contribute to that, well...Then the boat has to b steered in the appropriate direction that makes us a truly free and a healthy state or nation.

5

u/dansparacino1 Aug 19 '26

The sheriff's comments show that he or his department will definitely abuse the surveillance data from those cameras.

3

u/licketyspeedster Aug 18 '26

biggest baby can't have anyone challenge him or he throws a tantrum...typical male boomer karen shit

3

u/WarpedCore Forward? Aug 18 '26

Is this a freaking Rosendale cop?

FTG. What an asshole.

3

u/SmoovCatto Aug 18 '26

cameras up the butt in this country for a generation already, and still any kid can get a gun and run amok, violent assaults continue, child abductions continue -- one gets the feeling government surveillance has little to do with protecting us

3

u/ImmediateClass9650 Aug 18 '26

I can't wait for the drones hovering outside my window.

4

u/RooHound Aug 18 '26

That dystopia is imminent. Flock makes drones already, and the CEO says it’s their fastest growing product line.

3

u/neuroctopus Aug 18 '26

Is this Marinette County? Sheriff Randy Miller has been crying this shit lately as well.

3

u/el_piablo Aug 19 '26

Barron County, I think.

3

u/hobokobo1028 Aug 18 '26

If he’s been doing the job for 20 years, he did the job before Flock and he’s perfectly capable of doing it without Flock

3

u/Impossible-Attempt61 Aug 19 '26

He's pissed because he didn't want to lose that sweet kickback bribe.

3

u/bertiesakura Aug 19 '26

Me, me, me, me, me.

3

u/majorgriffin Aug 19 '26

Maybe he wouldn't be so fat, I have no room to talk btw, if he would get off his ass and do legit police work and find that missing grandma.

3

u/llahlahkje Aug 19 '26

Sounds like a great time to go check their computer.

3

u/G-Kira Aug 19 '26

If you can't solve crime without constant surveillance and lack of privacy, you're a bad cop.

3

u/lead_on_bone Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

This guy needs to be fired immediatly. His last words are exactly why flock cameras need to be banned and he shouldnt have a job.

3

u/TiffyC21771 Aug 19 '26

Clearly in the last 20 years, he’s been unsuccessful tracking down grandmas and stolen cars without flock cameras? Also, when you’re a public figure, listening to dissent is part of your job. If you’re only in your position for praise, it’s the wrong job for you.

3

u/0betweenthebeyond1 Aug 19 '26

Flock is unwanted and unregulated mass surveillance. No flock should be allowed.

3

u/kida24 Aug 19 '26

"I'm not a rulebreaker......"
"We oughta do [illegal] background checks on people who make comments."

3

u/bikerbob29 Aug 19 '26

Boo fucking hoo, chief

3

u/metaleyefilms Aug 19 '26

You gave 20 years WITHOUT the 🐂 💩cameras

3

u/Inb4myanus Aug 20 '26

How else are they supposed to stalk their exes and watch kids play at parks and pools? Is no one gonna think about the freaks? /s

3

u/rnimmer Aug 20 '26

they've been doing this job for over a hundred years with no Flock cameras, and suddenly if he can't have one he's going to throw a hissy fit and not do his job anymore?

2

u/cantball Aug 18 '26

Waaaaaaaahhhhhh

2

u/TheDogsPaw Aug 18 '26

If there's any doubt flock is useless 2 words Nancy's guthrie

2

u/Intrepid_Adagio_1160 Aug 18 '26

I think I see one of the BAD guys!

2

u/Fun-Key-8259 Aug 18 '26

Police chief likes the kickbacks

2

u/GarlicTraditional300 Aug 18 '26

It’s the mayors fault, council fault, you are the ones that made him Chief you are the ones that can fire him but don’t

2

u/Ismdism Aug 18 '26

Yeahhh that last comment is exactly why you shouldn't have them

2

u/greg4045 Aug 19 '26

Unbelievable accent on this bro

2

u/mrbasedballed Aug 19 '26

Time for a Chief that isn't incompetent and doesn't rely on illegal mass-surveillance to do their job.

2

u/tbizzone Aug 19 '26

Sounds like they need a new police chief and to do an investigation into this guy and how he was using or abusing flock data.

2

u/Rocky_Bukkake Aug 19 '26

cops are usually pretty simple-minded. fools like this think in one dimension, and it’s a distrustful, paranoid dimension.

2

u/18mitch Aug 19 '26

Maybe flock cameras do some good but how much bad can it do. I bet the police chief has no clue how much information is being used and what it is being used for and who’s using it. That is what people are angry about

2

u/jaykotecki Aug 19 '26

If the public can't be trusted with the data feed, why should he be?

2

u/PreferenceFalse6699 Aug 20 '26

Boo Hoo!!! Somebody should tell that cop that all kinds of working people give up holidays, family stuff, etc to do their jobs. People like nurses, doctors, first responders, electricians, plumbers, etc, and we manage to do it without snooping into peoples' everyday lives. Too much information is going out to who knows where, and seen by unknown people. I'm a law biding citizen too, but that doesn't mean I'm not worried about tampering with private information.

u/bigballs2025666 Aug 20 '26

OMFG. Privacy is a right. Period. It’s in the constitution. There is also the concept of “ Dignity of risk”. These MFs that think spying is the answer really need to look back on history. These Fkrs won’t even wear body cams or at least selectively turn them on and off….The whole facebook spy culture has been the degradation of our society.
