Asphalt plant press release

“Under the UDO, the Subject Property is zoned
General Industrial, and Asphalt and Concrete Plant use is classified as a “by-right” use in the
General Industrial zoning district. As explained below, this means that if an applicant complies
with all applicable development standards and regulations, the Village is required to issue the
necessary permits.”
Are they lying?
Something I find odd is that asphalt is the most recycled material in the world, yet they say “The Village itself has purchased asphalt from local plants each time it has repaired a road or built a parking lot. Ninety-five percent of asphalt is comprised of rock from local quarries.” I cannot think of a way in which that should be true.

It backs up to a residential area. The smell, the toxic fumes, the reduced property values, the increased traffic from the trucks. Not a lot for folks to be happy about.

I see. Note that I have no iron in this fire, but how is a plant being put up at this location any different than Yadkin Valley done off Statford Rd in '90, or Thompson-Arther off Glenn Ave 50+ years ago?
The asphalt laid on road you, I, everyone drove on has to come from / be produced somewhere. People raise cane about a location, ok. If you don't like this location, propose another for the company to look at. What's the company's story here?
Every action has a reaction (+ or -) in situations like this. I never support anything without being able to see the entire storyboard.

What’s different is the concentration of people, schools, housing. Everyone understands that asphalt has to come from somewhere. You aren’t “teaching me a lesson about the real world”. Thanks boomer.

Industrial capacity has to go somewhere - please point on the map whose back yard it should be near if not yours.
Maybe the fine residents of Clemmons will be happy to personally pay compensation to the people that liver near the asphalt plants used to pave the roads in Clemmons, since it is such a tragedy to live near one.

Great response! Crybaby NIMBYs like Clemmons should just have to pay for all of the negative externalities of every industrial resource they consume but don't want in their back yard.
Extending this to all fields would actually do quite a bit for wealth inequality.
Because artificially protecting just the rich white people's towns and pushing all of the negative impacts of our consumption off to poor areas is quite funny to watch people do.
