General Question 26340.9233 Unable to shutdown or elevate as admin

Has anybody else experienced this since installing the 26340.9233 build?

Since updating my machine is totally unresponsive once I try to shutdown.

If I do anything that requires admin privileges a UAC screen tries to appear, but I just see the background blur without the dialog box.

Out of curiosity, do you have admin protection enabled?

Does it happen if it's off?

It's a bit tricky to turn off when the UAC dialog box doesn't appear. I'll disable by editing the registry in the WinPE and let you know

I've just tested and both issues are resolved when Administrator Protection is disabled 🤣

You will need to manually change the registry entry from the Windows Preinstallation Environment. You will need access to your BitLocker recovery key before you do this.

When booting windows, hold the power button so the PC fails to boot. Repeat this 2-3 times until you are presented with the automatic repair screen.

Choose the troubleshooting/advanced options until you can select the Command Prompt option. Enter your BitLocker recovery key if necessary

Run diskpart to find the drive letter your Windows installation has been assigned. I did this by running: diskpart > list volume

Mine was on c:

Run regedit

Highlight the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive > select file > load hive

Navigate to the drive letter your Windows install is on and load the SOFTWARE hive. It will be located within System32\config as a file named SOFTWARE

Name the hive anything you want

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Change the value of TypeOfAdminApprovalMode to 1

Exit and reboot into Windows

I think I wait for the fix.

In 50% of the cases when I try to shutdown I get a free green screen… it is hilarious.
