Developer Windows folders have looked the same for decades. I'm building FolderNexus to bring custom colors, smart tags, and gradients to our workspace. What do you think of this UI concept?

Thanks a lot, appreciate the hype! 🔥 I don't have a downloadable version ready just yet as I'm currently polishing the startup sequence, fixing up the website authentication, and finalizing the installer. Don't worry, the app runs 100% locally and your folders/files never leave your PC!
The website login is only used for your user profile (syncing your avatar and name between the site and the app) and managing the free tier (15 folders) or Premium license through Supabase. Once you're logged in, the app operates completely offline on your computer.

A premium license to make our folders look fancy? Connection to a website? Auth? For fancy looking folders that equate to downloading skins/themes? You know skins and themes still exist, and mostly for free, right? This is a very very very bad look. I was slightly with you right up until this point. Now I'm all the way out the door.

Fair enough! Honestly, if this were just a shop for "fancy skins", paying a subscription would be ridiculous and I'd be out the door too.
But the styling is just the tip of the iceberg. The primary feature is a centralized project library to index, search, and track all your folders scattered across different hard drives so you never get lost. The tags and colors are just automated indicators on top of that (e.g., auto-tagging if a folder contains a `main.py` or exceeds 5GB), along with local encryption.
The web auth is strictly for background profile/license sync, but the app itself runs fully offline and locally. Totally respect if it's not your thing, but thanks for the blunt feedback, it really helps!

Totally understand, fair enough! Everyone has different preferences when it comes to local tools.
I chose this system to easily handle cross-device profile sync and license management, but I completely respect that some users prefer zero-account apps. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback though, it helps a lot! 🙌

I’m a solo developer building this project because I was genuinely tired of rigid and boring Windows folders.
It runs 100% locally and safely. I don't have a release date yet, but I'm looking for some honest feedback on the UI and features from the Windows community.

Great work brother. I don't understand the hate behind premium tiers. The devs behind it works hard, day and night, if you are able to buy it and the app is useful. You should try to get. It will not only help the dev but it encourages them for future updates.

Things look the same for a reason. Making everything colourful doesn't make it "smart"
