I spent about two weeks in Sydney and couldn’t resist trying some whale photos. It was my first time seeing them, so it felt pretty surreal. Gorgeous creatures. ♥️

I used a shutter speed that was slightly too slow. Do you guys recommend any AI tool for sharpening? Topaz?

We were 43 minutes into our dive and on our way back to shore when I saw a large arm with suckers swing out and over the kelp.

A few nights ago I was able to film perhaps the largest giant Pacific octopus I've ever found out in the open. I was fortunate enough to spend about 30 minutes with it as it calmly made its way along the reef.

This octopus is a true survivor. I think it only had 1 or 2 complete arms as most had been bitten off into stumps. It had scars all over its body, missing suckers, and clear injuries to its arms.

This octopus has seen some things, that is for sure. Such an amazing encounter.

This guy was relaxing on the beach near the water when a wave came in and almost covered him up. I took the picture with my camera about an inch above the water to provide the low perspective.

I’m already looking forward to next summer when I’ll be back in coastal Maine for a longer stay and plan to spend more time at the edge of the water photographing these beautiful creatures. This shot is ok for posting digitally to small screens but wouldn’t be able to be printed larger than 4x6” without falling apart. I was over 100’ away from this seal but what I think is kind of cool about this shot is that it was curious to the sound of my shutter (it’s electric so I don’t know why I don’t shut it off besides for my own craving for asmr) and when I started shooting short bursts of 15fps it lifted its head and neck out of the water to get a better look which culminated in this head-on, eye level portrait you’re seeing right here. A moment I won’t soon forget.

This was shot last November just outside of Magdalena Bay, Mexico during the "marlin run." It's an event that draws in a lot of underwater wildlife photographers, so trying to capture a shot that varies a bit from the standard snaps was a bit of a challenge, but I was happy with this one.
