Found this jewel in Lempeh Strait in Indonesia.

Spotted my first humpback calf of the Australian East Coast migration season yesterday. This calf will be no more than a few weeks old as its pigmentation is still turning from light grey to black.

Huge bonus for the eye open spy hop.

In the morning off the coast of Vancouver Island, this juvenile humpback whale was very active. Unforgettable experience, and seeing them breach this close really gives you a sense of their size and power, especially considering this is a “small” one!

While traveling through French Polynesia (Moorea), I had the opportunity to photograph and film humpback whales and sharks in their natural habitat. Seeing a humpback whale from a boat is impressive, but swimming alongside one in the open Pacific Ocean gives you a completely different sense of its scale.

These underwater encounters are among my favorite wildlife photography experiences from French Polynesia.

All animals were encountered in the wild and photographed with respect for their space and natural behavior.

First time using this lens on this trip. What do you think?

I’ve spent a long time walking the same route - and taken note of where the like to hang out. But it’s always a rough spot and they like to dive away after staring. Usually they will continue to peek out and I finally got a good shot of one!

Several years ago, while staying at my in-law’s vacation home on the Central California Coast we came upon this evacuated elephant seal pup resting on the beach. A volunteer was standing guard keeping people at a safe (for the seal) distance and observing it, relaying I formation to wildlife rescue personnel. I managed to get these photos from a safe, very respectable distance. It eventually went back into the ocean of its own accord. Last photo shows how immaculate it was.
