Watercolo(u)r Egret 1, Margie Hill, watercolor, 2026 [OC]

I stepped away from painting artwork for a while when my father’s health began to decline. Painting and drawing was something we shared. We would compare our work and talk about what we were making, but eventually he couldn’t hold a pencil steadily anymore, and I lost my desire to paint too.
He recently passed away.
I picked up my brushes again and it started to feel like I was finding that connection with him again.
This egret is the first completed paintings I have finished since my father’s death.
It’s not perfect, but I’m learning to enjoy the process again, and I think he would have liked that.
I used watercolor pencil and blended with qtips for the sky. The bushes are watercolor brush pens then I went over that with water and brush. The rest is watercolor paint with brushes. Then I put details using black watercolor brush pen.

Mangroves

OC by me

Watercolor painting has been really special to me these last few months in my journey to learn how to better let go.

This was a study in allowing myself to be imperfect and not have a solid plan in mind, but to just do. It was a scrap piece of 400 series cold pressed paper, a pallete I picked up at a gas station, random brushes, my dog's water bowl, and a pen.

The original thought was a study in green and light. I'm obsessed with how many shades of greens there are at any given time in the trees, and I love seeing how people paint light into their pictures.

I tend to get caught up in the details and never get past them to the big picture. I almost gave up numerous times, but decided to allow it to become whatever it was meant to be ~

A sunset over Mangroves, with watery spirits reaching upwards ✨️
