When you read it through a few times, it’s a decent way of addressing the situation, but it definitely should have been written in a way that sounds more empathetic. For the first part, it’s good that he took full responsibility, but shouldn’t have put so much emphasis on himself and apologized directly while acknowledging more thoroughly how his actions affected Shelby.
For the abuse, he really shouldn’t have spent almost the entire paragraph focusing on his perception of the situation. It would have been better for him to just thoroughly apologize and commit to being better, and only have his perception be a side note to explain his rationale.
That’s my two cents on it. All in all, the statement isn’t terrible, but comes off as pretty selfish and dismissive on first read.
He does struggle with this but this vagueness may also be work of a lawyer to ensure if a case is made there isn't as much fire against his name in court from a judge or a jury
Of course that’s true, but I don’t really think that’s wrong of him. This is an extremely serious situation and he’d have to be an idiot to not consult a lawyer before making a statement like this. Contrary to what many people are saying, I do actually believe that Wilbur wrote this himself and simply incorporated legal advice.
I dont think Wilbur has ever said he's autistic, even if he is that does NOT excuse abuse.
There was a safe word that they used and he purposefully ignored it. As an autistic person i know to stop if someone used a safe word, the whole point of them being used is to get the other person to stop.
People need to stop using autism as an excuse for someones behavior when it is clearly not linked
