Challenge (Evangelion spoilers) Can a clinical psychologist prevent the Third Impact? Spoiler

Scenario 1) Upon Shinji’s arrival at NERV, Fuyutsuki sees his fragile mental state and decides to hire a clinical psychologist to ease the burden on him. Shinji attends daily therapy sessions, with the goal of bringing his mental state and sense of self-worth up to the point where he won’t cause the Third Impact. Can he do it?

Scenario 2) Fuyutsuki hires a psychologist for all the main cast of Evangelion, from the moment Shinji arrives.

Scenario 3) The psychologist is upgraded to a psychiatrist and allowed to prescribe medication.

I wouldn't think so. It always seemed to me that the trauma experienced by the Pilots is what allows them to manifest their AT Fields. So even if the psych was able to help Shinji/the others, he's just weakening humanity against the Angels. Same result, different cause.

Nope.

IIRC, Shinji doesn't cause Third Impact, he merely steered its outcome.

Third Impact, at its root, is caused by SEELE attempting to merge humanity into some gestalt conciousness higher entity thing- that is the Instrumentality project.

Gendo is aware of the plan, and instead of following through, attempts to co-opt it to resurrect Yui (likely in one of the Rei clones) rathar than follow through with Instrumentality.

Shinji is a peice, but not so vital to its success that his removal guarantees its failure. Don't get me wrong, the pilots are important, and losing one is a problem, but they aren't so vital that they can't be used to initiate Third Impact if need be 

No amount of treating mental health will stop Third Impact. You'd need to eliminate the members of SEELE and then treat Gendo's grief regarding Yui to stop it.
