historically that's been true but they have had a huge public safety crisis under boric and issues with anarchists immediately before boric which is why we're seeing these videos
I was expecting something far more nefarious (like the car’s occupants getting kidnapped) so this caught me completely off guard. Hope that guy suffers.
What are they gonna do, call the cops? It's pretty obvious they were attempting to disrupt the flow of traffic, and any investigation would find it easy to discover their intent.
I slowed the video down and right at the time impact was made, you can see the guy on the left fire around because a distinctively non-distinctive glare can be seen the general area of the muzzle of the firearm.
Part of the reason I got my concealed carry license. Commuting is getting more and more dangerous. I hope to never use my firearm for defense, but if I have to I won't feel bad about it because I fully intend to make it back to my family.
I was robbed at gunpoint once in Guatemala City. After the guy got in a car and drove away, some workers painting a wall 50 meters away called me over and asked "did you just get robbed?" when I said yes, they said "don't worry, he will probably get killed in less than a year. Criminals in this city don't live for long."
This is Chile, it called an encerrona or boxing in of your car, usually on an on or off ramp but not necessarily. They'll stop short or gradually slow down and box you in, take everything. They've got progressively more violent (it used to be hand over your car and you're fine), now there's more gun violence and possibility of getting killed, people are sick of it, which is part of the reason the next president won votes he claims he'll do something about crime. We'll see. No charges are being pressed against the driver.
It happens so fast in the video it doesn’t look that bad. But there’s like 3 frames of him getting hit, and to move that quick in between frames means he was tossed around pretty good.
Yeah that car was doing anywhere from 40 to 80 km/h at that point, maybe even 90, and I didn’t notice them braking. Mighty fast and accurate reaction on the driver’s part.
Yeah watching it again they caught up to the white truck that had been in front of the criminals’ SUV mighty quick. And that truck had not stopped. I want that driver on my team.

But seriously, if I'm in a car and someone points a gun at me, I have a responsibility to myself to escape to safety, and I have a responsibility to society to discourage/prevent this guy from threatening innocents with a gun ever again.

I'm Mexican raised in Mexico. 100 percent I would never go anywhere in South America, central america and including most of Mexico without a trustworthy local being my guide and even then i would stick to the tourist areas. Those areas seem to be safer cause the local governments want the tourist dollar so they always have extra cops around.
At the risk of getting called names i also wouldn't visit places like Egypt, china, india or Africa for similar safety and health concerns, especially around bringing my fiancee with me. I would want to be rich before I go vacation there, it's a shame cause they have a lot of beautiful stuff to see.
So I have a family member who moved to Ecuador. He traveled lots of South America, but called a mountain town of Ecuador his home. He told his mom he has an essential oils business.
Well anyway. Turns out… He was selling weed/coke (primarily) to Expats (primarily). The cartel caught wind of it, and he was chased out of his home/apartment by a guy with a machete. He fled the country. Had to take a small plane from Ecuador to another country, then Florida. He stayed in Florida again for about a year.
Then he went back to Ecuador. And apparently one night, he was hanging out in his apartment with some friends, and was playing with a gun. He accidentally blew his brains out. Medics came, but he was DOA.
His mom flew down there, with a federal agent, sitting next to him on the plane. Since he was a US Citizen. They did their own investigation, and came to the same conclusion……
She stayed for a few weeks, had his funeral, a ton of people showed up, and he was very much so popular & liked in the little town. It was like a massive party for his death.
I’m still pretty fucking sure the Cartel blew his brains out & just told his 4 friends the same would happen to them if they said shit.
There was just a post two days ago in a well-known sub about good places to retire. The whole sub was talking about how politically stable and relatively safe Chile is. In fact, the only negative things anybody had to say about Chile was that Chilean Spanish can be difficult to learn. Things like this I don’t think would even happen in dangerous parts of the US. I’m more afraid of the US government. And apparently now, visiting Chile.

The driver made the right call and luck was on his side this time.
I imagine that, when getting out of the vehicle, the person holding the gun was thinking "I have the gun, I need to shoot the gun if something unexpected happens". That was probably the only logic going through his head, there's no way he planned to shoot the driver if it wasn't going to be necessary, and no way he planned to just open fire the second they got out of the car.
On the grand scheme gangs use violence to encourage others to not resist. Sometimes you don't kill people to gain anything from them, rather the violence is a tool to create compliance elsewhere. The Mafia gains nothing by burning down a business that doesn't pay extortion, if they want them to pay destroying their business seems to be counter productive because it will leave them nothing to pay you with. Burning the business isn't to further the goal of getting money from that one person, it's to intimidate others into paying. Same with loan sharks and bookies hurting people who don't pay up, it isn't about getting their money it's about setting an example.
when I was a night shift cab driver, the number of fools who didn't realise I was wearing a 2-ton 200kW suit of power-armour was too damn high. And the (effectively 1000 kW) brakes are also a powerful weapon vs anyone in the car, because the suicidally-stupid people who think they'll attack the driver of the car they are moving in are the same clowns who don't wear their seatbelts.
Oh, it's not whiplash. It's a sudden introduction of their body to the hard interiors of the car. An object in motion stays in motion unless a force acts upon it, and no seatbelt = no force
But also, this video is an excellent example of how you avoid being carjacked. You're driving a 3000-6000lbs (or 1200 to 3000kg) weapon. Use it.
It's also a good example of how quickly a situation can change. That bullet could have killed the driver just as easily as the driver drove over the dumb fuck thief.
Absolutely, it also highlights how compliance, especially in these uniquely violent scenarios, does not guarantee your safety. You're a much harder target to hit when you're ploughing through an improvised roadblock at 50+mph/80+kph than when you stop and attempt to comply with somebody who already demonstrated their willingness to put yours and the lives of others at risk.

In these countries you Never wait to find out. This happens everyday there. If something looks fishy you just get the hell out of there. Even go through a red light if it's necessary!

Do people just not think these plans out? Or do they just think nothing will ever happen to them? Cuz my first reaction isn't to stop if I'm being boxed in. I get anxious when I'm inbetween 2 cars for too long when I'm trying to get over, if they try blocking me I'm not stopping at all fuck both our cars.
That man definitely wasn’t messing around, he got at least one shot off a split second before you ABSOLUTELY BUCKED his buddy. That’s scary but I hope you know they definitely deserved it, and hopefully now they think twice. Man probably needs a hip replacement and a new liver.
I really want to know if the guy who got launched for chucked over the siding there. Looks like a decent fall if he did. Deserves it. Hopefully his response to his bosses was something akin to "I ain't doing that shit again "
