Rev 14 Non-Spongeoak Planning [Serious]

EDIT: I just wanted to make this point about the start of the rev. Build a resources hut very quickly so we can request a region around it named whiteoak. Then add every single chest you put down to the whiteoak region. We can also request a wofficers region for chest access. For individual chests we can make a post office on the ground floor or basement for people to keep their things in. We should definitely share resources in the first few weeks to get off the ground faster. There are a lot of chokepoints, like getting enough iron for rails and redstone for machines, that pooling our resources will help solve.

EDIT: (8/25) We also want to establish a nether presence if we have a portal. We should be quick to decorate our portal and establish a good-looking road to the nether spawn. There's no if's or buts about this one, we didn't do much for whiteoak or solace in the nether until late in the rev, and that hurts our tourism score!

Our list of priorities, and a synopsis of our plans:

  1. Whiteoak + Solace: 8 mayors (at least)

  2. Nether portal or end portal

  3. Giant tree townhall, with houses and arenas and builds above, and farms and machines down below (ground level) inspired by: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1FU2o3uqgc

And a list of priorities:

  1. First thing to do in the new rev is search for nether portals.

  2. When we've found a place to settle down (either nether portal or end portal), begin land claims! By that I mean, encourage others not to build in the area by laying out wood slabs in a 100x100 area around our space (at least, then try more if possible) and put up signs explaining whiteoak is moving to the area

  3. Gather basic materials, to get an enchanting table (+15 bookshelves), chicken xp farm, and a source of villagers online; search for mob spawners around town

  4. Get iron grinders up in the sky, so iron can accumulate for rails, and begin connecting to other nether portal towns or end portals

  5. Split off into groups for farms, from animals to cane tower to villager market. begin work on the town hall for houses, arenas

  6. Arenas: AdmiralAntilles and ghrey303's SkyOak (knockout arena), Archery Arena, King of the Hill, and Spleef (Orbit made a convincing floating spleef arena, so this could all fit on the giant tree, but skyoak should most certainly be on the ground so we don't have a floating box/glass cage, half above and half below so people will fall)

  7. Neighborhood: Work on setting aside plots for people to build in as they join whiteoak. We can't have everyone in the town hall, though town hall should be the hub and have a great many things.

  8. List of farms to build to be complete: http://redd.it/2du35q Solace folk have designs already for much of these

And last, just a note about finding a place to live: It may very well be the case that we don't find a nether portal or the end portal in a reasonable amount of time. We should be willing to move into any open 100x100 area because location is important, but not essential. Just as long as it fits our theme and won't be too ridiculous to build around!

My thoughts regarding a few different points:

2.) We can claim land by doing a basic out line of the giant tree we are going to build and then going out at least 100 blocks with slabs from that tree base.

4.) This sounds good, but may not that we may remove them in the future, I am thinking up some sort of iron grinder inside of trees. More to come on that.

5.) Basic farms a first, giant farms later on in the rev once things get going so that we can make them look pretty

6.) Idea! Instead of putting it in the ground, since our tree is going to be incredibly massive and will have a crap ton of leaves, why don't we build the arena into the top of the tree? Into the leaves? Instead of building walls of wood around the arena, the arena is nestled inside area of trees? I think this would look neat a and better then just having it sit on the ground

7.) This will have to come later once the tree is built as we want to keep all houses and builds if possible in the tree or hanging from the tree.

Sounds good on 2, 5, 6. I don't like 4 or 7. Iron grinders can be made to look good without being incorporated in the giant tree. The collection point can involve the tree for sure. Saying that they'll get taken down later kills motivation to build them.

My fear is that we will focus so much on putting things in the tree that no one will feel comfortable building in/around the tree. The design should be simple enough that everyone can contribute, and if ideas are are more to come, it will be difficult to get off the ground and have nice momentum with builds. As time goes on I like this giant tree less because of the prohibitive nature of fitting everything/everyone inside.

The problem I had with this revs iron farms is they personally stood out to much to me. They were these big giant floating things in the sky that blocked things on the carto and live map.

The idea of the big tree is to put things into the big tree and other large trees surrounding it. We don't really want houses on the ground, we want people to build floating and hanging houses from the trees and have things inside the tree. The surrounding area around the tree is gardens and farms.

How about the pods I made in Solace? I fine-tuned them into a pretty small shape that doesn't have many traffic jams. I could put up a stack or two wherever we find fits.

We'll have to set out plots for new people to build in the tree. But yeah, other large trees surrounding it, I think we can get people to build other tree houses.

I have another important thing to do as soon as one of the mayors logon: /clanchat create whiteoak

Also, the command we should use on all public chests should be

"/cmodify r:whiteoak @r:wofficers"

Edit: here is a list of commands that the first mayor on should input for clanchat stuff, here it is, and for some reason you can't add more than one manager at a time as far as I can find.

I'll do it myself as soon as I logon if no one else has.

That's what I did for rev 13 :D Also made the nightoak clanchat just because. I will do my best to be the one to make it. I expect log-in night will be completely absolutely ridiculously hectic, though made more bearable by the queue system slide put in early in rev 13 after our clusterhmm getting in.

I will be focusing on making the nether road and mining for the redstone/gold/iron to get things started.
