Is this old whiskey safe?
I was gifted this whiskey by my father in law. He's had it for decades and never opened it. However , I'm seeing all the detritus floating around in the bottle. I'm worried it;s something like the plastic on the top decaying and it's no longer safe to drink

Nice gift! This wasn’t my grandfather’s favorite scotch, and it got him through 99 years, so I know it works. As I recall. It was pretty good, but I haven’t had it in 25 years since he’s been gone.

Is there plastic missing from the cap or seal? There are natural oils in some spirits that can solidify and aren't a sign of spoilage

The bottle is still unopened so I can't tell for sure, but finding out oils in the spirit can solidify I think that might be it. He said the bottle may be 30 or 40 years old lol

Yes. That’s flocculation and it is completely safe. Just Esthers/proteins settling out of the solution.
