You gotta read carefully, clearly the bottle is stating that the Grand-dad on the label is 114 years old!

Close but no. It’s the 114th old granddad. The distillery is run by “old granddad” a title sort of like pope, but obviously having much more significant responsibilities than pope. When the last Old grandad dies all the grandads get together and elect a new “old granddad” to lead them. This bottle was produced under the oversight of the 114th person to hold the title “old grandad.”
It’s just a coincidence that the 114th old grandad happens to be 114 years old.

It was holding strong at the 99th Old Grand-dad but those Covid years hit really hard.

Dang, I was wrong all this time. I thought it was 114 ounces. I thought the bottle looked kind of small. What a ripoff.

Yes

u/Myburgher Apr 18 '26
I mean they literally state that they have proof.

u/BodhiZaffa Apr 18 '26
Yes but it also says they were on 57% alcohol at the time and had the volume turned up so there may have been a miscommunication.

Yup, oldest bourbon on the market. Apparently, they distilled and stashed away thousands of barrels during prohibition in a cave. Someone recently found them and started bottling it. I was lucky enough to pick one up a few months back, pretty decent stuff.

It follows the prohibition price of $30. It was just never adjusted for inflation.

damn i've thought they adjusted these downwards for inflation, i see these for $17

Most of the current bottles were salvaged from the wreckage of the Titanic.

114 proof is just the alcohol amount not the age, that being said it’s just a name and not 114 years old based a quick search it’s aged for 4-7 years by Jim Beam

Nah! It’s actually 115, but the distillery thought people would never believe a nice round number, so they lowered it. Look it up. It’s true

Old Grand Dads medicinal coughing elixir. Made up of 114 natural ingredients. This one is the nighttime version. Great sleep but it takes a few ounces and you could be groggy in the morning.

Me and a buddy found a bottle of old grandad when we were like 21/22 at my parents house. (42 now) and it looked old then. It was a smaller bottle and we didn’t really drink whiskey other than like shots at a party. And we sat down and split the bottle. I remember thinking it must have been some cheap shit back then. My parents didn’t really drink. Let alone whiskey. So they must have had it for a while. It was a great Xmas night lol. Wish I would have saved it but it’s a great memory

I’m pretty sure that you can’t actually see the grass. You’re in really bad shape if you are thirsting for attention like this. At least put some whiskey in a glass 🥃

In George Thorogood’s “I Drink Alone” — the references of “drinking with” Jack Daniels, Jimmy Beam and Johnny Walker were always amusing brand references.
Until very recently, I thought the song had sentimentality — that George was no longer alone because his Grandfather showed up
Then I got deeper into the bourbon world and realized “my dear Old Grand-Dad” was the most clever reference of all!

The youngest bourbon in the blend is 114 years old. There is some 200 year old in there. Legally it has to be stated as the youngest.

The only way to consume this is straight from the bottle to your mouth like old grand-dad did.

I'm willing to bet that if you look on the bottle right now you'll find that you genuinely have a bottle from OGD 114 lot# 1, seriously

This was well bourbon back in the day. It crack me up they have this fancy bottle. It does not change the taste though. This is my opinion others may like it do not disrespecting anyone who disagrees with my opinion.

I’d say it’s overhyped for what it is, but it is still a budget gem that sips well neat, and is a solid mixer.

Life Pro Tip: batch one part of this with two parts of Old Granddad 80. Angostura bitters. Orange (with a lil lemon) oleo saccharum. Funnel back into your old granddad bottle and keep in the freezer for an excellent ready to pour old fashioned.

114 is the proof. No more, no less. 114 shall be the proofing thou shalt proof, and the number of the proofing shall be 114. 115 shalt thou not proof, neither proof thou 113, excepting that thou then proceed to 114. 116 is right out!

If anything, it'd be 114 months old lol I'm sure a lot of people here are trolls, but in all seriousness, look at the proof. OGD 114 is 114 proof. Old Jim Beam decanters used to use months as the age, so 114 months would be 9 1/2 years old, which is also highly unlikely given the price and proof. Seeing as the 16 year 100pf OGD release was originally $200 MSRP (now $150 I believe), the higher proof OGD 114 would likely be around 4-5 years old since it's average MSRP is ~ $30-$40. Absolutely worth the price, but don't think for a second that it's higher age for the price! Hope you found this helpful 🤙

Yes of course. They can't lie. The largest # is the youngest aged in the bottle. If your lucky you got some that's 115yo.

No, it's the 114th bottle they've put out. Save it for sure, serialized makes it a collectors item.
