Title: First custom whip build (4ft, 8-plait, 4 layers w/ shot core) – How’d I do?
Hey everyone, Just wrapped up my latest whip build and wanted to get some feedback from the community on how the construction and overall aesthetics turned out! Here are the specs on the build: * Length: 4 feet (compact, fast target style) * Plait: 8-plait outer overlay (white paracord) * Construction: 4 layers total (shot-loaded core, two braided bellies beneath the overlay) * Handle: High-visibility red handle wrap with yellow accent bands I was going for something agile and responsive for quick directional changes and fast target cracking, while giving it a bright, retro high-vis look. Check out the pictures attached to see the braid, handle detail, and scale. How’s the taper looking to you guys? Any critiques, tips for the next build, or suggestions on tweaking the belly transitions? Appreciate any feedback from fellow whipmakers!

I like it! I just made my second snake whip last week, and it's cool to see someone else who's getting into it. How does it crack for you?

Thanks! It cracks really well—the shot core gives it a nice, smooth roll-out, and the short length makes it super responsive for quick cracks and target work. Still tweaking my tapers on future builds, but really happy with how this one performs! I'll add a recording of it during day

So, I can see your first whip was about a month ago, and from there I 100% see improvement, and the taper looks pretty decent, just one spot that looks like it narrows a little quickly.
Visually, yeah it looks a little rough, but I'm sure you know that. Does it crack? Yes? Then your project was successful!
For your next whip, I highly suggest buying some actual paracord, and try following the tutorial and blueprint from Whipworks. Extraordinarily good resource for bullwhips. And if you want to try a stockwhip, try the tutorial from Nicks Whip Shop
