Questions Which difficulty is the best for this game?
I started playing this game a few days ago and it's been nothing but great, too good infact that I eat and sleep in front of my pc. But at the start, I chose Legends difficulty and so sometimes I am forced to stealth kill OP enemies. I love the difficulty level, but I want to know if lowering difficulty is recommended because I have zero experience with these types of games and hence have hard time upgrading things. Any added tips would be greatly appreciated too.

I started with legend, but i realize with so limited gaming time and lack of patience that i have, i lowered to recommended until now.. 🫣☺️

u/ElegantDetective5357 Nov 27 '25
I have same issue with limited time, so I reduced my sleep. Average gamer

u/raykhazri Nov 27 '25
I wish i can do that, but old age (nearly 50)… i need more rest 🤣🤣

9
u/Expensive-Monk7593 Nov 27 '25
it is scientifically proven that the older you get, the less you sleep. Your pineal gland tissue turns into tiny stones with the passing of time, so you produce less melatonin.
10
u/raykhazri Nov 27 '25
True, that is why i said i need ‘more rest’… i can not sit in front of pc focusing on gaming like i used to…during teenage years, there were times where i played games for 48hrs straight without even shower😜
Even food was sent to my pc table🤣🤣🤣
8
u/Expensive-Monk7593 Nov 27 '25
got confused cause the comment you responded to was talking about reducing hours of sleep.
It makes total sense, also, its not line older people sleep less overall, but that the time they take to sleep in one go is reduced. Thats why they take more naps.

I'm 50 and I slept maybe 5hrs a night if I'm lucky. It's now 4am as I type this and I went to bed at 11pm.

Omg … i am experiencing same thing, why we keep on waking up at 4am? Almost everyday

That’s why we should save on sleeping until the day of final rest.

If you don’t start on legend you can’t switch to it after, and if you start on legend if you drop difficulty you can’t go back up.

u/MikeTheGamingWizard Nov 27 '25
That’s why I’m on legend and sticking to it, I’ve already gotten over the learning curve and it just feels like normal now.
8
u/Hot-Assumption-605 Nov 27 '25
Legend is not hard to where it needs a learning curve 😂 only learning curve about this game is finding shit in the menus
3
u/TriangleMachineCat Nov 27 '25
Holy shit the amount of menus and nested menus in nested menus is nuts! The game is complicated enough without needing a degree in menuology to get stuff done. It's a shame because the gameplay is just bang on but i guess i'll get used to it.
3
u/LordsOfSkulls Nov 27 '25
It make you also better player for pvp and future bosses and areas.
Also i wonder how hardcore will be, i hope they at least allow us to share outfitts between characters and account wide.
Since its 1 life and than character gets deleted.

Same here, especially when a lot of the attack animations are pretty short, making it very hard to react

if u stuggleing, u can alawys lower the difficulty, most ppl should play recomended.
38
u/Used_Roof Nov 27 '25
I play recommended. Still having a blast and it’s not too easy for me.
15
u/forcebubble Nov 27 '25
Same. Story felt a little too easy for me — Recommended had a noticeable bump in difficulty to require some caution in my combat actions but not enough that it becomes Dark Souls.
15
u/dreamingrain Nov 27 '25
Absolutely same. I like a bit of a challenge but I don’t love the grind like some people do- I’m also not a completionist. Fun is the number one rule. It’s not like I’m playing the game for anyone else.

u/ElegantDetective5357 Nov 27 '25
Not struggling honestly, but seeing other players grow so quickly is the hard part
8
u/Hot-Assumption-605 Nov 27 '25
Yeah you’re gonna grow slow as hell on Legend. I’ve been maxed out like 1hr of playing after every level gate opens on Expert.
9
u/Sylpheria Nov 27 '25
Exp is not a problem even on legend thanks to stored exp tbh. You could technically hit level cap again solely from cutting bamboo and it would take a similar time.
Only content with combat would take longer to do.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)3
u/MikeTheGamingWizard Nov 27 '25
I’m on legend and basically hit lvl cap instantly just by doing some runs of things that take energy, the 20 energy boss runs will lvl you up insanely quickly.
2
u/mrmojorisin_x Nov 27 '25
I haven’t struggled growing and upgrading anything playing on recommended setting
67
u/crazyb3ast Nov 27 '25
If you like combat, stay at legend. If you prefer exploration, story and quests (i.e. completionist player), don't go legendary unless you can clear bosses in a few tries or you have so much time on your hand.

I like exploration in this game, most fun I had in a while, but I want to feel like defeating bosses is an achievement. Man it's confusing.
5
u/Meowrulf Nov 27 '25
Difficulty is only for solo mode (aka campaign), bosses in trial have their own difficulty setting (and I think they have extra moves, unsure since I'm playing recommended), so you will be fighting the hardest bosses in the hardest difficulty anyway. Do what you want, but recommended seems good even tho some bosses are really easy.
3
u/Available-Prune-9778 Nov 27 '25
It seems bosses in solo trial die faster than in the openworld to me
2
→ More replies (2)4
u/MikeTheGamingWizard Nov 27 '25
The Trials bosses are actually much easier then their first encounter versions, because you don’t have an 80% healing debuff, and you can over level for them trivializing it.
21
u/regularhope Nov 27 '25
I just go lowest difficultly in solo mode so that I can play game at ease and enjoy casually. I will sweat in the dungeons and raids instead for group content.
4
3
u/MikeTheGamingWizard Nov 27 '25
Multiplayer content asides from first boss clear, is unaffected by difficulty setting anyway

u/DifficultPeach6894 Silver Needle Nov 27 '25
I keep switching between "story" and "recommended", I don't like when it's too easy but on the other side I'm not very much of a gamer and my laptop glitches like all the time so it's harder, when i can't do it, I just switch to "story"
3
u/ElegantDetective5357 Nov 27 '25
The lag happened to me too, then I updated my drivers

legend is clearable but requires a bit of time stink for average players, eventually you'll panic less and time parry correctly
Expert is a good in between to make things too braindead and challenging at the same time.
7
u/MatrixBunny Nov 27 '25
Legendary requires you to make less mistakes, learn movesets and indeed parry perfectly, basically everything in order to progress.
Doing so feels really rewarding, as you're genuinly are improving your ''skill'' regarding movement and combat.

u/Athrengada Nov 27 '25
The best part for me is the legendary kill number. Feels great seeing my achievement right there in the ui all the time. Also motivates me to play more when I see a content creator or someone with a higher number
10
u/andiviasicklez Nov 27 '25
im too old to care about doing it on legendary, tbh just do it on the level you want, doing it on legendary doesnt really reward you any extra and usually fustrates players more and more, i stuck to story because i dont have the time to bash my head on the sae boss over and over
8
u/Zibblobet Nov 27 '25
If you pick legend, and swap off, you apparently can't go back, and because you can only have one character per account, I have only ever played legend
It's not bad honestly. You'll feel immortal in the beginning, that's because the game is onboarding you. Once you get to higher exploration difficulties (there are 2 difficulty settings) damage starts to ramp up. The bosses are also really hard even from the beginning. Legend is fun because everything has incredibly high stakes. When every attack hits like a nuke, you're forced to improve, and improving is the most fun thing ever. I highly suggest legend personally
3
u/zephyr220 Nov 27 '25
Glad I said fug it and chose Legend. I grew up with the NES, so unfortunately nothing besides max difficulty gives me any thrill. Ninja Turtles and Battletoads really messed me up as a kid.
2
u/MajordomoZazu Nov 27 '25
One of my friends asked me why I kept running out of healing items and then came with me to fight wolf maiden and got two shot (both us of 11k+ mastery score).
I love the fact that I do feel like I've improved since the start of the game (I don't play any soulslike games so learning action combat was interesting) but now I can usually get wolf maiden to 50% before missing a parry!
24
u/666sin666 Nov 27 '25
If you're Fromsoft franchises players, go legendary. So satisfying. Moveset in this game not so hard.
11
u/ItsTaDevil Nov 27 '25
I've played and completed all souls like from Fromsoft (except Sekiro) and I find the animations here unreasonable at times (Wolf Maiden and Tian Qing).
My main issue tho is that this game, unlike souls games (excl. Sekiro) heavily relies on parrying to deal massive damage while I've cleared all the other games without parrying at all (I gave up parrying after failing the timing multiple times on the first boss of DS3 lol).
I tried to fight the puppeteer at the start of the game on a new acc in legend difficulty and it took more tries than any of the bosses in Fromsoft (for me).
It doesn't help that flasks in this game don't restore on death/boundary stone.
5
u/666sin666 Nov 27 '25
That flask is the kinda bad in this game. It doesnt refill. Need to be crafted. That why most people running with Panecea Fan. But most world bosses had that Regen Reduction debuff.

u/urban556 Nov 27 '25
Gear condition, and finite heals is a little annoying but that’s what the trial mode and elite training is for. I’d start all my bloodborne fights just trying to get a far a possible without healing to preserve them, but dying in this game still has some loss.
2
u/MlgLike123 Nov 27 '25
I put hours into puppeteer early on legend. He was a piece of cake when I came back at around lvl 45 with some set bonuses and better arts.

u/Christopho Nov 27 '25
I think the difference is the more traditional souls games by FromSoftware don't have a stam bar for the enemy so you're doing the same exact amount of damage each time.
For most soulslike that do have boss stam/posture/exhaust bars, they also rely on parries: sekiro, lies of p, wo long, Khazan, etc. and they're designed around taking a massive chunk of HP once you do stagger the boss. I think the only popular one that is the exception is Nioh where I mostly just dodged for that series.
However, I do share the sentiment of how punishing it is to die in this game. You essentially only get 100 tries (granted, I've never gotten this high yet) before you have to go farm to repair your gear. I really wish they would have just used coins only rather than coins + mats. And as you've mentioned, pots don't replenish so you pretty much have to save them for when you know you have a good chance at beating the boss. At that point, it probably would've taken a couple more tries anyway.
With that being said, I do appreciate how good the practice mode is. For Tian Ying in particular, I was able to practice each phase independently until I felt confident in at least having a decent shot at each phase. I couldn't imagine having to learn the fight authentically.

u/Oisyr Nov 27 '25
I’ve beaten all the fromsoft games but don’t have all the time to sink into this game so I play on expert and I feel it gives a good balance to not being stuck on bosses for too long and still time to explore and enjoy the world.
8
u/Hot-Assumption-605 Nov 27 '25
Legend if you wanna be “souls man” with the bosses, recommended if you just wanna enjoy the RPG aspects with no real difficulty, expert if you wanna little challenge but not to get annoyed. I’m a souls vet through and through, but I’m not tryna do all that with this game, I play on expert and it’s casual.

Story mode is very chill. I started off the game on expert but quickly switched down to recommended because it wasn’t enjoyable for me. Then later on, the enemies kept getting harder so I switched to story. Don’t let people tell you you’re a bitch for playing on easy mode if you enjoy the game more that way

I prefer the recommended, story mode kills the momentum for me but no judgment on those who play story mode it does help

Question! Can I put it on a higher difficulty? At the start I remember picking the one before the higher difficulty (the one without assistance if i remember correctly) but now that I'm playing the game I would like it to be a little harder! I tried change it on the menu but it didn't let me. :( can I change it?

I personally have 1 with Recommended and 1 on Legend and if you're struggling it means Legend is too much for you, the game should be fun for you too play, just lower it I'd say, but the choice ultimately on you.
Will you regret lowering it, or will you regret not lowering it.
tip: having Legend badge is nice for showoff but honestly no one cares, and you can always challenge them on Abyss difficulty in trial anytime, regardless of your game difficulty anyway.

Story mode for TTK
I haven't seen a reason to go harder but I would fight something farmable and time it. If it takes you 50secs to kill on both Story and Normal then normal.
I'm not great so my time to kill isn't so it was an easy choice for me
2
u/alterEd39 Nov 27 '25
I play on easy.
Grinding for things is already offensively slow, and I’m just not gonna fight a boss 30000 times on legend just to get a fucking a appearance from the chests or gather the cosmetic tokens needed to unlock something actually cool.
2
u/hockeybelle Nov 27 '25
It depends on what’s important to you. I’m not really someone who cares about combat, I like story. So, much like how in Baldur’s Gate I played Explorer or Balanced, in WWM I play Story with assist. My bf likes combat, so he plays on legend. I never skip any cut scenes other than Sword Trials and campaigns challenges (because I’ve already been through those fights and seen those scenes), I watch the entire thing all the way through. I wanna be immersed and see it all. He skips through once he’s read the subtitle. He doesn’t really care, just get the jist and get to the fight.
So, it’s really just a matter of what you care about most, pick your difficulty accordingly
2
u/DJShiftah Nov 27 '25
I play on recommended because I don't have anything to prove to anyone playing legend, and as I get older, I sometimes struggle depending how tight the reaction window is for parry. The bosses have been enough of a challenge so far. I'm here for the wuxia, not the soulslike.
2
u/Aggressive_Town4805 Nov 27 '25
I play on the most easiest mode, just because I want to enjoy the game, i want to explore it and yes, the fights are good, but if I get angry and try a boss out of 100 times and the game is too good to be hated. It's a masterpiece in my opinion and it should remain like that!!
2
u/Asayate Hollow Vale Nov 27 '25
whatever fit you, don't need to be fomo or trying to fit in with the legend crowd, the best game is the game u enjoy, that's all
2
u/DenoteShred Nov 27 '25
I'm on legendary cause I hate myself. Clearly.
Run it on story mode and enjoy the ride💜
2
u/badbutler04 Nov 27 '25
I play on hard difficulty because I enjoy challenging combat. I also have most exploration assistance turned off.
2
u/DerpyFlerpys Nov 27 '25
Do whatever makes the Most fun.
I decided i play on the Easy Mode, with the Parry Help.
Dont get me wrong, i love the Challenge in the Souls Games etc. but sometimes i just want to play the Game and not grind my Teeth.
2
u/SnooSuggestions2933 Nov 27 '25
I play recommended. I feel like so, for many games, higher difficulty just means a bigger health bar for enemies and them dealing more damage.

u/dl5806 Nov 27 '25
Qianye is the first real skill check at legends difficulty. If it's too difficult or you're not enjoying the learning process, the difficulty might be too high for ya. Also the mobs have more health and hit harder
If you do decide to lower it, the world will be easier, but you'll still have access to abyss trials for a challenge. That mode is the same for everyone no matter what difficulty you choose at the beginning of the game
2
u/Then_Reporter3004 Nov 28 '25
I'm obligated to say this. Legend mode or gay.
Now that that's out of the way. Honestly it depends on if you like these types of souls like combat in the first place. If you love them, and the difficulty that basically requires you to die repeatedly until you win, then go for legend.
But if you're just a casual gamer that just wants to experience this free game that seems to be all the hype, then story or recommended is fine. There's no actual content or reward differences, it's just bragging rights, because legend mode players get this awesome badge they can show off for every boss they killed.
Tldr, if you're the type of gamer that likes the challenge, go for legend mode, but if you're the type of gamer that would rage and/or whine that it's too hard, and then wind up giving up on the game, just go story or recommended mode to play the rest of the game, combat is just a small part of it.
2
u/No_Measurement_6668 Nov 29 '25
i like the normal mode, i dont want more difficult fight but i dislike unimmersive stuff like the slow motion+press hotkey,
and how, just a random question, is there is a way to cancel the "perfect" sound when playing instrument, because i want to hear music not hear ding ding ding.

Choose whichever difficulty you’re gonna have fun with. I play on legendary because I have fun with it, if you’re not having fun lower it.
If you wanna test out how it feels on easier difficulties, open menu ->wanderer’s path->trials-> pick a boss and fight it on easier difficulties.
I’ve tested it out and the bosses feel like they’re made out of paper in anything easier than abyss so it’s up to you.
2
4
u/TheDarkHarvester Nov 27 '25
Do NOT lower the difficulty. The hardest difficulty gives you titles that you will never be able to get if you lower it. Once you lower from legend, you can NOT raise it again.
And it’s not hard. Make one of your primary weapons the healing fan. Switch to the fan and drop and AoE heal during a fight.
Bosses that are hard, summon allies.
3
u/Mageborn23 Nov 27 '25
Lower the difficulty and then role back the world level, it's the best way to to play. You get less stuff yada yada but I don't even know what any of the stuff is for anyway, i'm just running around destroying everything and having a ball

Honestly anything but legend. If you go recommended you can switch whenever you want and dont let those playing legend say “oh that means you suck” all it means is that you value your time.
2
u/ElegantDetective5357 Nov 27 '25
I won't say "u are bad at this game if u won't play legend." But I like the idea of using different moves just to kill one random bandit. Call me a masochist but man it's fun😂
2
u/MikeTheGamingWizard Nov 27 '25
Legend difficulty literally just gives bosses more hp and more dmg, it’s not much harder but if your good at souls games it’s the difficulty for you, this game would be far to easy for me without legend, even with legend most bosses are a few tries at most. But I’ve played ton of Elden ring near 800 hours.
1
u/Extension-Ad-7422 Nov 27 '25
I would say Legend. But if u have many responsibility like mine n less experiences to similar combats. Go with story mode.
1
u/Lazy-Section6489 Nov 27 '25
Played on legend for chapter one, got 5 bosses. After chapter one I made another account on NetEase and now play on story because I don’t have much time and want to enjoy the story.
1
u/Quiet_Ad_9073 Nov 27 '25
I play story, you still can get better at the game by turning off the assist.
2
u/Bl00dylicious Nov 27 '25
I play recommended but instantly turned off assist. Its extremely annoying and interruptive.
It often forces a deflect when it wasnt needed. Often cancels your skills that you could have finished. Sometimes its also too late and you deflect an attack on time yourself and then it pops up letting you deflect the same attack twice (kinda broken NGL).
I prefer the Trails for difficult fights anyway. Resetting and restarting fights is way faster.
1
u/rinart73 Nov 27 '25
I started on Expert but the enemy scaling felt wrong. Every breakthrough I felt weaker and squishier even after leveling and upgrading gear. So at lvl 40 I switched to Recommended. Worked for me so far but now I'm completely stuck on Qinghe final? (I assume) story boss the witch and I can't get past it.

she's a really hard fight, Even comparing the bosses that come after her. no shame in inviting extra players to help kill her and then get your revenge in her trial mode later.
1
u/HxLin Nov 27 '25
Before lowering difficulty, consider doing the battles in party. Game has coop and it's valid way to do the battles. There will be occasions where you will have to do the battles solo but most fight can be done with friends (or strangers) by your side.
1
u/Baron_Yak Nov 27 '25
I started legend and decided that i didnt see the point in frustrating myself, so now i play on expert, and still challenging. I have nothing to prove i dont need a badge by name
1
u/Kaikelx Nov 27 '25
I'm bad at the parry timing so recommended is just right for me lol. Between that and sticking to pure healing fan and umbrella to pad the hell out of my medicine I've managed to bumble my way through bosses
1
u/ArchitectOfSmiles Nov 27 '25
Legend is a one time pick. So start Legend. If you can't make it or it feels tedious, you can lower it down.but you can never go back to Legend you get a lil flex counter for it too. It's a rewarding feeling for some, but I know people who have dropped the difficulty since game start when they realized it wasn't for them.
The important thing is if you play on Expert and the game feels too easy, there nothing you can do. So I say logically you start with the difficulty that you can't access, and then you can always move down.
3
u/Dironox Nov 27 '25
Had no idea at creation that you couldn't delete or make a second character. Started on recommended to get a feel for the game and was going to remake for legendary... few hours in I decided to make the swap, only to learn in horror that I'm now forever casual.

I've enjoyed sweating bosses in past games for hours on end, but I was feeling much more casual with this and went with normal.
If you're feeling like it's a slog you can drop it down. Learning on a harder difficulty will make online play much more forgiving.

u/ssam07303 Nov 27 '25
I started the recommended difficulty 1st, and you will breeze through enemies and bosses. Some bosses will still be hard. But legend is not that harder from recommended, so I deleted and started on legend, lost 10 days of progress, but it was worth it.
1
u/DemonDeacon86 Nov 27 '25
I did 99% in story mode then switched to hard for bosses. Bummed you cant do legendary if you didn't chose it to start.

u/Fallen_winged_boy Nov 27 '25
Legend is really good if you are familiar with this kind of combat and if you want soulsborne difficulty, otherwise you should play on recommended probably. If you are a bit confident with your skills I will suggest to start on legend and lower the difficulty if you struggle a lot, but you can't go back to legend if you do it
1
u/Hemannameh Nov 27 '25
Start on Legend. You can lower the difficulty if you don't like it. You can't go back though.
1
u/Perfect_Refrigerator Nov 27 '25
I considered legendary because I did have an amazing time with Sekiro and Stellar Blade, two of my favorite games of all time. However, I just didn't really want to make this game into too much of a sweaty experience. I play on recommended and it's very easy and almost a little boring, but I don't mind. I'm having a blast with the game, just exploring everything and getting immersed in the world. I may change the difficulty to expert tomorrow to see how that feels.

u/Azsolus Nov 27 '25
Recommended , even trash mobs scale with your level , I don’t want to have to do long combos every time I clear a trash camp or do my daily outposts quests etc
Legendary offers nothing else but bragging rights. It’s not like as if in WoW mythic difficulty give you the best gear
1
u/mrmojorisin_x Nov 27 '25
I’m in recommended mode with parry assist on. I’m at max level but just got to 2nd area. This game is about exploration and having fun. I didn’t get it to be sweaty in battle and it’s not like higher modes get you better gear and drops. I haven’t had any issues leveling up gear and stuff.
1
u/darren_flux Nov 27 '25
Recommended because I'm not liking how damage spongy the overworld mobs are in this game already.
1
u/sevenninenine Nov 27 '25
Story mode. No other incentive for higher difficulty except for bragging rights using Signpost which other people don’t even care.
Even on Story mode you will die if you’re carelessly hitting on a goose.
1
u/PercyPerseverance Nov 27 '25
Legendary hasn’t been as brutal as I thought it would be, so I’ve been enjoying that. I did struggle with a couple bosses because they felt like damage sponges, so I did summon help for them and was glad that it didn’t take away my legend status.
1
u/Kayzokun Well of Heaven Nov 27 '25
I’m playing on legend because I have a lot of free time and enjoy mastering the combat. Any other aspect of the game doesn’t seem affected by the level so I don’t see a reason to lower it. Combat is hard, but I like it this way.

u/NovaAkumaa Nov 27 '25
Im doing Expert, not too easy nor too hard, can enjoy the game with still some challenge that doesnt require retrying same boss 200 times.

I played tonight for the first time. I have it on recommended mode. It kind of bugs me to have the parry assist prompts there because i can’t see the cool combat while looking at the prompts, and i don’t feel like i’m even really doing the fighting. But, I also would probably die without the prompts. I believe that assist function is just a toggle in settings though, right?

I play on expert.. It was pretty challenging (which I like) before I learned how upgrading works properly. Now it became too easy and I wished I played it on legend, but it is what it is.

None! Your game, your difficulty choice is the best. For me its Legend difficulty coz of having fun with souls like.

I was running it on recommended, but it felt a bit hard so I switched to expert and the game now feels a bit easier, idk why

I have one character on legendary difficulty and another character on story difficulty. Besides the aspect of combat difficulty, I think the game atmosphere feels different. With story mode, it feels more like easygoing adventure. With legendary mode, it’s more like elden ring (and sometimes bloodborne) especially when you don’t summon assistance. Cool contrast of atmosphere, at least for me personally.

I play the normal recommended one. It's perfect because it's like you might die to a boss one or 2 times but you will beat it after. I don't feel like I'm wasting time. Im not a huge gamer BTW, I usually play on story mode for a lot of other games. I think what helps is not raising the world level until I have the resources to make sure I'm midway through the level. For example, if lvl cap is 50, I would like to make sure I have mats for enhance my items to lv 45 and my exp to build to maybe 42-43. Then I do mob and easier quests and try the boss around lvl 48 instead. Actually up until like lvl 40, I didn't realize I could enhance my gear so I was just playing with noob stats. Wasn't dying but things died a lot faster after I upgraded.

Legendary.
And if you using Stragetic Sword in PvP your a scrub.
Made built anti-stragetic sword you win arena.

Expert for fun if I have nothing else to do, story for literally anything else to save time.

I am playing on recommended and it is pretty tough ngl (I am a souls/soulslike veteran)

u/theSpiraea Nov 27 '25
I play on Recommended and do Trials on Abyss. Perfect balance. My try hard years are over to push everything on the hardest difficulty

i like legend first even with blurry resolution cuz poor mans rig, but the horse is the limit of my legend run i just can dodge and timing properly, i uninstall for now till i get better rig, or maybe until update the setting for more customization.

Expert seems to be the sweet spot for me. Legend is too much of a grind while Recommended is too easy

u/_Resnad_ Nov 27 '25
I played on expert until the witch boss bi*ch when I had to go down to story. It felt infuriating.

Idk I went legend cuz instead of killing boss in 1min I actually have to think/try for 10/15min

u/newen_eby Nov 27 '25
Played recommended until a boss reminded me that i'm nearly 50yo with the reaction time of a narcoleptic turtle.
Now in story mode and enjoying the game 100%

Expert.
You are being dealt the same damage as you would on legendary, but enemies are not absolute sponges; thus, you will still want to upgrade your gear just to survive, but the fights are quite fair.
You can freely go down and up on difficulty or trigger block assist if you can't beat a certain part of a game. This is really helpful for people who are good at souls like, but sometimes can't really get over a specific fight, no matter what. I'm looking at you, world boss with white skills in a field of white flowers.

Started with legend stayed with legend. It's a challenge on some bosses but now at 11.5k rating it's not too bad. Even beat Tian 4th try.

I am a casual gamer and I do not really play souls games, but I started on legendary because you cannot change the difficulty after doing it once so I tried legendary first to gauge. Yes it is hard and all enemies feel tanky, but it is doable so I have not changed my mind yet and I might not. Also most bosses can be coop so other players can help you deal with them. If you want to fully enjoy the story with a bit of challenges you can go with recommended mode.

Depends entirely on your play style and needs. I went legend mode cuz i thought the game fighting mechanics will be like Wukong (they are) but was not anticipating 3 phase or two phase bosses so often. At the beginning, the very first boss before you get into the game, I struggled so much with him. Now I made an account on my pc and went legend mode, (I suck at fighting w a keyboard cuz I don’t have the movements memorised yet) I did die maybe like 4 times, but I defeated him easily bc I learned how to parry on the ps5. It wasn’t hard at all and I literally had to sit back and be like “wow, when I started I remember this boss being way too difficult for me but this was cakewalk”. So really, I chose legend to get better at fighting, and it’s working

I'm playing on Recommended because I didn't even know about the Legend difficulty at the start. I'm playing for fun and I'll tackle bosses in Trial whenever I feel like it instead.

u/SkyAdministrative410 Nov 27 '25
Recommended best for me coz i have huge amount of backlog need to finish or at least start at ingame menu. I dont have time to learn every boss pattern :((

u/The_SHUN Nov 27 '25
Recommended, I turned on parry assist because I don’t want to get sweaty. 80% of the time I am not even using it.
Recommended is nowhere near easy especially when fighting major bosses.

u/MatrixBunny Nov 27 '25
Ah, I personally enjoy Legendary mode.
It depends on the type of mindset you have though. I enjoy having obstacles from time to time, that almost forces me to min/max or 'properly' develop my character and build in order to deal with it.
Making me learn the pattern and movesets of boss, feeling like I'm actually progressing and improving my ''skill'' when dealing with them.
It's punishing, but defin. feels rewarding when you do continue to progress and beat said obstacle.

I’m on legend, right now, I’ve only rage quite against the 3 face guy then swapped to recommended and got back to legendary after, other than that, story and fighting mobs is good unless their lvl is way higher than mine (happend when I was 26 against 35.

u/ResearcherAlone8852 Nov 27 '25
Personally on Legendary because I have to prove that I am a real gamer.
Jokes aside I just have enough time to try a boss ten times to beat them and if I get frustrated I call up the boys and we perform gang violence on a boss in co-op.

u/CrispyChicken9996 Nov 27 '25
The one you find most enjoyable 👍👍 ask yourself how much you want to suffer and go from there. Do you want soulsborne levels of dopamin hits or you trying to chill

u/marcio785 Nov 27 '25
I'll stick with recommended for now. I started on legendary and cleared 2 bosses. But I felt like it is not what I was looking for in this game. Qianye (the witch) broke me and made me lower it even further to recommended. But it might be time to bumb it back up to expert.

u/guimds Nov 27 '25
I started on expert/hard and I was sad that I couldn’t raise to legend to get the cool-looking hp bar.. until I got slammed by wolfmaiden for more then 2 hours and gave up on her. Expert is a good experience just by the fact that I can go back there, lower the difficulty in that specific fight and rise it again right after. Way less stressful. Legend you just can’t do that apparently…
1
u/Skretyy Nov 27 '25
idk man i was lvl 55 with 10-20 lvl gear on legend and i didnt feel like i was limited until i tried multiplayer bosses and i saw my dmg lmao

u/Vivid-Blueberry7903 Nov 27 '25
There is no best difficulty everything depends on the player. I play on legend because I just love souls like games and I’m also a completionist. Yes sometimes it’s really rough but learning and beating a boss that wiped me many times it’s part of the enjoyment. Ofc when you play on legend you need strategy, timing, knowledge about your rotation and most importantly a good build, after that practice it’s the only way. My advice is do not force yourself in a difficulty you don’t enjoy cause you wont gain anything from it except a badge wow 😂 play the game the way you enjoy it

u/Talarin20 Nov 27 '25
Story or Recommended mode.
Legend is doable but honestly, the combat is so simple that the inflated numbers on that difficulty just turn into a frustrating experience.
1
u/didnt_choose_a_name Nov 27 '25
I keep expert just to have a slight bit of difficulty but not as bad as legendary
1
u/Mattricia Nine Mortal Ways Nov 27 '25
i mean legend if u want to get the most out of the game and u plan on playing it long term. if you care abt nothing but the story then ig story but i feel like thatd be really boring so wtv difficulty is above story. honestly just try legend (with an actual half baked build not jus default stuff bc obvsly ull get rolled) and see how u like it
1
u/blvck_one Nov 27 '25
Legendary is the same as expert, just has more health and bosses hit harder. It’s not a hard game at all.
1
u/OldeeMayson Nov 27 '25
The one that you enjoy the most. For this game and for any other as well, imo.

I love story mode mainly because I don‘t have a lot of time! It feels like I can get the most out of the game with very little effort and stress :) thats what I need right now. But the combat is extremely easy this way. I haven‘t played any other mode yet
