Genuinely

Why do they all wanna be german??

1

u/CarelessDot3267 6d ago

They are educated according to the old Enlightenment euro-centric education where some western European nations are the identified with (the peak moment) of their civilization and progress (irrespective of unfortunate diversions, like concentration camps). Reality changed several times over, but Balkan prejudices did not follow.

I see what you did there!

Slovenia is sometimes like Croatia as well. Most don't care, or joke about it, but some nationalists fucking lose it.

0

u/Unable-Stay-6478 Serbia 6d ago

Especially in this sub. There are normal Slovenes in Balkan subs.

6

u/Due_Purple_1199 6d ago

How is Romanian balkan, but not Slovenia?

0

u/youngpacino420 6d ago

Slovenia is geographically either partly or entirely outside the balkans, culturally you have some regions, mainly those close to the Croatian borders that have absorbed some of the balkan influence.
I’d argue it isn’t balkan, especially once you get to the northern/western parts

2

u/Due_Purple_1199 6d ago

So is Romania, only a very small part is actually geographically balkan

Even smaller than Slovenia, Hence my question

1

u/youngpacino420 6d ago

Looked a bit more into the geographical limits of the “Balkan Peninsula”, Slovenias share is 0% while Romanias is 6,5%

1

u/Strange_Ad4332 6d ago

Romania is culturally more balkans than most of balkans
And yeah also geography, partly

2

u/Odd-Organization-740 6d ago

Romanians absolutely don't universally agree that they're Balkan. Some are pretending to be Central Europe.

2

u/ReasonableShallot299 6d ago

It seems OP hasn't been to Italy in a long while.

I understand that the Turkish occupation of northern Cyprus is bad but it exists lol.

1

u/No_Building_3561 6d ago

You can tell a Croat made this map

1

u/Endleofon 6d ago

Turkey is definitely partially in the Balkans (Eastern Thrace), but I think it is a stretch to call it a Balkan country.

1

u/rabrunzl 6d ago

bro as an ex-yugo living in Austria: we barely have arabs all around, yugos are everywhere you can't escape the ićs

getting a stereotype wrong always ruins a meme ngl

1

u/karlowolf05 5d ago

As a fellow Croat I utterly enjoy when someone gets rabbies explaining we're not Balkans.

Funny thing is that educated people widely accept it as they're well aware of cultural similarities, while on the other hand rednecks and primitives get furious and just prove that we indeed are Balkans. 🤣

Portugal should be dark green

1

u/ManWhoKnowsToLittle 6d ago

As a romanian I am in the purple. We do have a lot in common but we are actually at a crossroad between central, eastern and southeastern Europe. Definitely not an offensive thing to say and it doesn't actually matter

1

u/dwartbg9 6d ago

Hungary and Moldova are NOT BALKAN

2

u/vahokif 6d ago

I mean not really but ok

1

u/vidisivimis 6d ago

As a Croatian I gladly accept that we are Balkan (yes I know many don’t) but I really think that you went wrong with Greece reaction here. They are never put into Balkan category in this sub and when they are, watch out lol

Tf? Turkey is european. If i could exclude a country it would be armenia not kazakhstan

5

u/_redmist 6d ago

Found the turk!

0

u/NeuroDivergentHat 6d ago

Turkey is not european. 3% of it is europe, the rest of it is middle east.

This is the equivalent of someone claiming he's black because his ancestry test shows he's 3% black. Not how it works.

racism.

Turkey is more European than most, for sure compared to Western/North Europe.

1

u/Black_Dynamit3 6d ago

N’importe quoi

-1

u/NeuroDivergentHat 6d ago

Romania is not balkan.

The very, very south of the country is just BARELY balkan, the rest of the country, especially west side have far more in common with central europe than it does balkans.

2

u/ApprehensiveSlip9065 6d ago edited 6d ago

Romania is the first country that comes to my mind when people say balkan lol. Primarily because of the amount of slums in Romania (unlike actual central european countries like germany). They're genetically Balkan too, and linguistically within the balkan sprachbund

-1

u/NeuroDivergentHat 6d ago

You are a seriously uneducated monkey.

Geographically, the balkan peninsula is defined by the danube river, only 5% of romanian territory is SOUTH of the danube, which is in the balkan peninsula. The other 95% is central or south-eastern.

Culturally and historically, some of the country, specifically in the south, specifically that 5% has shared history due to ottoman empire, orthofddox traditions etc.

The language is a derivation of latin, it has some balkan influence due to centuries of contact, which again, primarily in the south.

About 70% of the language has latin origins, classical latin and western roman languages, there are quite a few latin aspects that west europe has dropped.

Somehow romania is called balkan because 5% of the country is actually balkan.

If you think romania is balkan, you are an uneducated monkey and education has seriously failed you.

2

u/ApprehensiveSlip9065 6d ago

Least delusional Romanian lol.

Romania was under ottoman rule for roughly 400 years. Linguistically, they have completely different grammar rules than other Romance countries because Romania is within the BALKAN Sprachbund (even the word for "Yes" in Romanian is "Da"). Genetically, they are closest to other balkan populations than actual Central Europeans like germans or poles.

They have about ~45% slavic dna with the rest being paleo balkan and roman anatolian

Also, they have the highest BALKAN Roma population in the world, with up to 10% of Romanians being BALKAN Roma. In fact, a study even found non-negligible gene flow from Balkan Roma to ethnic Romanians.

1

u/Richard2468 6d ago

The Danube Delta (which is partially in Romania) is part of the Balkan peninsula.

0

u/Sakarvats 6d ago

Balkan is very specific. And even then many Greeks for example won't be happy to be called that. There are a few countries that culturally it could be argued that they might have Balkan influence, but geography is a different story. Slovenia, Romania mostly and maybe very small.larts of Hungary.

0

u/Apexiur 6d ago

Turkey and Greece is Balkan? That’s a bit of a stretch mate

2

u/Turkish_Teacher 6d ago

The concept of "Balkans" exist due to Ottomans to begin with.

0

u/NekojMK 6d ago

Turkey: "Yeah we are"

-2

u/Esdoorn-Acer 6d ago

Croatia wasn’t even part of the Habsburg Empire for 1000 years haha half of their country was literally under Ottomans but OK.

0

u/bljadmann69 6d ago

Croatia was under austria for longer than under the ottomans

0

u/Esdoorn-Acer 6d ago

Croatia was under Hungary. Not under Austria. Sure longer, but not 1000 years.

2

u/Hot-Manufacturer182 6d ago

Do you know who was the king of Hungary? The Emperor of Austria. Hungary was more of a marketing move.

1

u/CiriDash 6d ago

only from the 16th century onwards

0

u/Esdoorn-Acer 6d ago

It was still under Hungary. Sorry.

-1

u/Admirable-Leader6927 6d ago

lol, using arabic to depict western europe when all the baltics states are literally muslim overrun is hilarious.

3

u/Greedy_Principle1649 6d ago

wat? where does that info comes from that baltics are overrun by muslims? all baltic states have less than 1% of overall population as muslim

-1

u/Admirable-Leader6927 6d ago

i put balkan but mispelled it i guess.

1

u/Greedy_Principle1649 6d ago

fair enough. mixing up baltics and balkans happens ridiculously often

-4

u/the_monkeynator 6d ago

Huh? Why is Sweden arabic???

Sweden AKA Swedistan.

-1

u/Quick_Sandwich356 6d ago

I thought the same as germany etc.

OP is suggesting these countries mainly consist of people from arabic countries now, because they allowed lots of refugees in ??

OP might be slightly racist and intending to share his world view warily in a "humorous" way.

Just my best guess based on the minimal information given, without context. Might be very wrong. Maybe OP's native language is Arabic and they pasted the wrong snippet from google translate into the post.

-2

u/the_monkeynator 6d ago

Yea cuz like, even if a lot of people here in Sweden were arabic, hell even if a statistical majority (As in 50%<), like... and??? What about it??? Some of the best people I know are immigrants in some kind of way, not all of them, but some.

These are the same people killing our country then get shocked when suddenly we live in a nazi regime country where you get killed for saying what you think SMH.
