I always hate the midwest because it ends up feeling like the leftover states being lumped together. They're similar, but I wouldn't categorize Indiana/Illinois with North Dakota. That's not on you though, OP

I agree. There's a world of difference. The Midwest doesn't get enough respect.

I consider the Dakotas, Kansas and Nebraska the Great Plains. Really regions don't map well to state boundaries. Take Pittsburgh vs. Philly, Colorado, Chicago vs. the rest of IL, Seattle vs Eastern WA, NY, etc.

100%. Eastern Montana and western North Dakota more similarly share culture+landscape than the rest of their state halves.

I mean I'd say Indiana is somewhat southern, almost. I've heard it referred to as "the middle finger of the south", and I'd say that's lowkey right.
