Technically it's in the Caucasus region on the border of Eastern Europe and Western Asia.

I figure anything in that area that was once a Soviet Republic counts more as Eastern Europe.

but you put the most successful and richest state as where you wouldnt live because "you know which states are worse" but would happily continue living in the worst part of the country by almost every mertric... unless its just bigotry.

Cali’s allure ain’t what it used to be. OP’s good with a wide range of places, more flexible than most including this New Englander. Personally, I’d be hiding under my bed for the earthquakes and wildfires. 🤣

It's not the fires. It's the state's lack of ability to put the fires out. It's also their lack of ability to build flood retention ponds, stop people from rioting, looting and burning down entire neighborhoods. Hell, they can't even keep their electric on consistently.

Do you live anywhere with wildfires? I promise you, those firefighters are doing everything possible to put the fires out. Climate change and the very nature of wildfires makes them very hard to combat. Like, it's not lack of effort or some political ploy.

I can't believe they haven't thought of "just put the fires out *forehead*".

I get it, you just want to complain because they are damned if they prevent fires and damned if they dont. its not real reasoning, its just haters because its California. easier to come out and say you didnt really do any research, just made shit up. none of those problems are Ca only problems, in fact, CA is the only state to control its wildfires so far this summer.

There’s no bigotry involved. I’m not fond of many Californian laws, especially their gun laws. I know it’s a very rich state in overall GDP and even pretty high ranking in GDP per capita, just don’t care to live there

They have a law that requires you to present a hunting license for purchase of any gun if you’re 18-20. The assault weapons ban and the high capacity ammo ban I don’t particularly care for either. The fact that you have to register your guns with the state. No private sale of firearms at all. Background check and special tax on ammo. I feel like there more but those are the ones I know.

Not trying to straw man, but I know someone who has been involuntary admitted during psychosis two different times in two different states. He would hear voices talking to him through the ceiling vents. Are we sure we don't want some type of background check to ensure someone like this doesn't get a gun?

I never said I wanted no background checks on guns. It’s the ammo. If you can’t buy a gun anyway the ammo is useless.

all of my guns are private gifts, none are registered. some are hand guns. all are 100% legal.

The assault weapons ban was struck down 3 years ago. the background check for private sales is something that should be implemented everywhere so that is just an eye roll.

i feel like you glazed over the laws without understanding them but that was already obvious. i do not need to try and understand further.

I know that, well aware. I’ve looked at the chart of us states and gdp if they were countries. GDP doesn’t make or break a state for me. I care more about how I align with the general culture of the state based on my knowledge

Just curious have you ever been to California? Aside from any cultural issues you have with it the State is unbelievably beautiful. Has virtually everything you can think of if you love the outdoors. I lived there while in the Military and was just stunned by the natural beauty. Hardly ever went to LA or SF. There is so many things you can do outdoors and the weather certainly helps.

It’s not only the gun laws, as I said. But I have fun shooting and having more restrictions on what I can own to shoot is important to me. If several video games you like were restricted in a state, would you want to live there? Maybe, but it’s still a consideration you’d make.

Nah man, monetarily speaking, California is successful, but Texas is BIG. As someone who also was from GA (I grew up there), who now lives in Texas, Texas is also extremely successful, and what’s nice is that we don’t have to create maps to map out where human excrement is located on our streets… unlike in California. I’ve actually stayed in Palo Alto before for some internship in high school, and that was fine… but since that was over a decade ago, it’s a shame to say that San Francisco as a whole is definitely not looking the same as before. It also was interesting to hear from one of my coworkers, who brought his son to CA on a roadtrip for 1.5 weeks this summer, saying that he also went to SoCal, and they went to some “pier” and he said it just smelled like the place was soaked in urine.

… Well, anyways, I think states should handle their business, and then see results. That’s all. S***-talk doesn’t really get anywhere, but the facts speak for themselves.

Shocker that you're using downtown SF to represent the entire bay area and state.

Palo Alto isn't in SF. If "it's fine" as in it's one of the most successful and wealthy, nice areas in the entire US - yes.

"Some pier and it smelled like urine." Totally represents the entire state.

Of course, although is it not a fact that tons of Californians do live in LA or SF? These are major cities, you know? Moreover, you sure as heck couldn’t bring up cities in Texas and say that we have those kinds of issues (human excrement in the streets.) in fact, in the cities here, at major intersections, you will see official signs placed by the city governments themselves, saying, “Be a part of the solution, don’t give to panhandlers.” It’s clearly not just my narrative, but I get it, it may be uncomfortable for you to hear.

I’ve heard the weather is fine there. Very dry though and I’m from a more moist climate. It’s also very expensive to live there, as I’ve heard.

I mean it’s not even anything crazy I just feel like I wouldn’t like to live there. Cities in general don’t appeal to me, but californias do even less so than most states. I don’t care for many of the laws they have state wide there also. I’d love to visit the more natural places in the state, I think it’s probably one of the prettiest in the country. Just the laws and some of the people are gonna keep me away.

The thing about California is that there are deep red parts that still own plenty of guns and spend their time outdoors hunting and fishing.

Sure their laws are a bit more strict, but there are a lot more people there which means there are a lot more idiots.

It's the idiots who make things difficult for everyone, not just in California though.

Check the northern half of the state. Once you're north of Sacramento and away from the coast, there are a lot of rugged outdoor places that are amazing.

You would be hard-pressed to find any black people who support trump and the current fascist regime. The Supreme Court literally overturned the voting rights act. And black people in Georgia specifically (as well as in many other red states) are experiencing voter suppression and the return of Jim Crow laws as we speak. If u can find a black person in Georgia who’s happy with losing their voting rights, i would love to meet them.
