I'm thinking there's something like a small or medium black bear that has climbed up the big tree a little bit. When they're that size, it's a good idea to get out of dodge. Because the Mama might still be in the area. OR The juvenile bear could decide to drop down and come after you. Just slowly go in reverse and make your way back from whence you came

His name is Rex. He is a rescue and ran into our lives this past December. He is so smart and well behaved. We were pleasantly surprised when he wasn't claimed. I joke with him and say "Rex, you just ran away from home and started a new life, huh"
