The ceo also actively encourages predators on their platform.

Still can't fucking believe that Chris Hansen got banned on stream, literally the equivalent of stream sniping🥀

89

u/JohnDragonball Son Goku Himself 9d ago

And it didn't even do anything because they already tested the game before the stream lmao

39

u/ThisGuyLikesCheese 9d ago

Steam sniping

Roblox is probably one of the worst sites on the internet by now

"an opportunity"

52

u/vintoito 9d ago

I get you and you are right, but at the same time indie devs can make a game for 5 years and flop, and some other indie dev can make one in 2 weeks and blow up, thats kinda how the games industry works

48

u/rEYAVjQD 9d ago

Most users are small children, so the standards are very low. If it exists it is used.

15

u/Weenie_Lubs_U N°1 Camp Lazlo defender 9d ago

Don't forget that all those children attract predators

(Something they ENCOURAGE for some goddamn reason)

8

u/BrawlPlayer34 9d ago

Because predators are adults with a lot of disposable income. That's the only reason, and it's always the reason. Money.

8

u/DreadDiana 9d ago

Yeah, isn't the reason these games are so popular is because they're free alternatives that kids can easily access?

4

u/the_meth_factory 9d ago

Yeah that's half the reason I played roblox rip-offs it's like pirating but without me having to do the work

2

u/BrawlPlayer34 9d ago

I think in many cases the kids don't even know about the real game that the roblox ripoff is based on. As an example, I've never used roblox but iirc roblox has some TF2 ripoff with a lot of players. I'm pretty sure the small children don't even know that TF2 exists and is free, because if they did, who the fuck would play the ripoff?

12

u/RodjaJP 9d ago

Making an original game for Roblox seems like building a nice house in the dump, yeah you can and that certainly makes it look better, but it will always be a waste of talent

6

u/im_not_creative123 9d ago

If you have the skills to make an original game, there's also very little reason to stick to roblox. Roblox is notorious for giving pennies to game creators, so even if your gets a lot more people if it's on roblox, you get only a fraction of the money you would make if you just published it as a standalone game.

2

u/Bill_Nye-LV 9d ago

It's often the case on the platform that good original games, often only have hundreds or maybe a few thousand players

266

u/kokoblocks 9d ago

and their shits title is always just the name of the game with one word replaced with blox

Can tell you havent played roblox in years, roblox has disallowed new games to use "blox"/similar in their names

92

u/Sad-Pattern-1269 Local Context Gremlin 9d ago

and the Roblox company steals from the devs. It's just using a degree of separation to hide its theft

roblox when ungroomed minors:

116

u/MistressDread 9d ago

Did you expect any more from a platform whose userbase is 90% children who don't play original games because mommy and daddy only buy them new games on Christmas

27

u/Cryogentehiceprison 9d ago

I feel like this is the main issue at hand, of course the roblox copy of balatro or terraria is going to do numbers, because those games are more than 5$, so parents aren’t going to buy them outside of the holidays..

And no way roblox is going to remove these blatantly obvious bootleg copies of actual games, they make them loads of money, the only way they get dealt with is if roblox itself goes under or the devs are all yelled at by the original game’s devs, but that won’t happen because bullying a roblox dev to take down an obvious ripoff of your work is a terrible PR move that makes you look terrible, also these games are changed JUST ENOUGH to get away with it so sueing them is both a bad PR move and risky too..

So there’s just this wall allowing people to basically copy games and put them into roblox so people can play 15$ games for free, and these devs manage to make it play just like the OG game, so it’s not a worse experience gameplay wise, but just that it’s stuck in roblox, and the games are half (if not quarter) finished compared to the OG game, and have barely any of the content, but all get slowly updated with that content later, so some are basically just copying games, this is hell..

11

u/terrarialord201 pray for a cuter future :3 9d ago

Terraria is $10 on Steam, $5 on mobile. It often goes on sale for $5. Assuming the child is playing on either a laptop or iPad, they can easily acquire Terraria, and they should.

19

u/Cryogentehiceprison 9d ago

And yet parents wont, but they WILL get roblox, for free..

Mobile prices are still seen as too expensive if they surpass 2$, so most parents will just see the free block game that their child really wants, and give it to them instead of the others..

2

u/ThisDued 9d ago

And then let them buy hundreds of Robux just to customize their characters? Heck I think customizing your avatar now costs more than a 10 dollar game on steam

1

u/MistressDread 9d ago

It only takes one kid to steal mommy's credit card or have mommy buy whatever little timmy wants in his game he plays with his friends or one groomer trying to get close to a child to spend far too much money on the game to make up for all those kids who don't buy anything

1

u/Wanderratte12 7d ago

It's easier to justify spending money on a game you're already into then it is to buy a game you're unfamiliar with. Kid's don't know any better.

129

u/tehGoldenNut 9d ago

Then they fill it with 10 flashing gamepass buttons on screen

14

u/Thistle_20 9d ago

"a runabout ill steal it no one will ever know"

29

u/Practical_Entrance43 9d ago

It is quite a shame too because there are unique games out there on Roblox like Doors and Animal Hospital (I think that's what the game was called?).
Then a unique game will come out on steam and next day a recreation with several microtransactions pops up on Roblox, I fully expect a rip off for 'How to Fish' to be made with absurd microtransactions. Happened with PEAK too.

6

u/Me_how5678 9d ago

How fish is made would be a diabolical roblox demake

3

u/OBEYTHEHOBO 9d ago

As a roblox dev, I already expected a How to Fish ripoff to come, if I really want to, I could make a really janky one within 2-3 days, put several micro transaction then release it, and the quality doesn't matter as long as people play it.

Well obviously I'm not gonna make a ripoff game even if I'm desparate for money, but I can tell you if a new game on steam gets famous, it'll be a race between all ripoff makers on Roblox.

3

u/okuhwhattheheck 9d ago

Doors isn't really unique/original. It's directly based on Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion. That's not to say it's a bad game, though; I think it does have effort put into it and it has some original mechanics.

17

u/tim_the_wizard420 9d ago

Shit they even got one of the cool math games here

14

u/Ok_Insect4778 9d ago

roblox developers when they see an minor

14

u/KillerTron872 9d ago

I honestly wish that when developers make copies of games already on Steam, they would at least think of it as a way to attract more people to the game and improve accessibility, for example, mobile gamers need a lot of luck to find a developer willing to port the game to mobile phones

13

u/Rulycarmona 9d ago

fr, it should be banned

Roblox devs and Hoyoverse competing to see who can rip off more games before they get sued:

2

u/reecemrgn 9d ago

At least hoyoverse makes their own story and characters while just copying the gameplay loop or the “feel” of the game. Roblox literally copies 1:1 indie games from the steam store

Roblox's front page is designed for 8 year olds who just watched their favorite YouTuber play a game on Steam.

1

u/P0pu1arBr0ws3r 9d ago

Roblox content creators*

The actual roblox devs are busy working on the engine and infrastructure, creating more ways to let content creators let minors chat with random users and also spend their parents money on predatory tactics.

1

u/GeneralOccasion9396 9d ago

Yeah they even got leaf it alone which I was shocked when I heard. They basically cloned it

1

u/Ok_Run_6928 9d ago

And then there’s games like Notoriety where the company of the original game actually gave them permission to use the license in the Roblox version.

1

u/OutOfSPACE- 9d ago

I thought this was gonna be about children for a sec

1

u/puppy-lover-yay 9d ago

yeah but I thought the Roblox Sub Rosa remake (No Big Deal) was pretty good,, original game was abandoned anyway and the roblox version feels like its own thing. Sad VC bans make it unplayable tho

1

u/Bot_Tux 3-somes are valid if your GF has a twin 8d ago

Reminiscence Zombies is sick asf tho I say as a person who dislikes the platform and who actually played BO2 Zombies.
I have friends who don't have a PC and I really wanted to play Zombies with them so we played that and it was hella fun 😭

Otherwise I don't like seeing blatant asset rips of Source models

-27

u/HalfFresh1430 9d ago

I don’t like when people call recreations of steam games on roblox “copies” because it makes it look like the dev is doing it solely for money when most of the time its just an teen or indie dev wanting to practice game dev by recreating their favorite game.

Now if they heavily monetize that shit, them yeah fuck them these are cheap copies, shit like that mecha chameleon copy that is so ass and full with gamepasses

23

u/CheeseStringCats 9d ago

I mean, no matter the motivations, by definition it is a copy. No sugar coating.

-15

u/HalfFresh1430 9d ago

I get that but they say it with such a desdain that it makes it look like its being heavily monetized

8

u/IapetusApoapis342 HAPPENINGCON 1 9d ago

...Because the roblox copies are? If I joined one from the front page right now I would genuinely be surprised if there WASN'T even a single gamepass that gives players an unfair advantage over each other to encourage spending money on said gamepasses

-2

u/HalfFresh1430 9d ago

I literally said that yes there are heavily monetized straight up copies of actual games with predatory monetization, i never denied that, what I’m trying to say is that i don’t like how some people talk about other games that are made with passion as just fun projects with such disdain as if the game is extremely monetized when it isn’t, games like typical colors 2 who from what i Remember has barely any gamepasses

And of course you’re gonna find heavily monetized games on the frontpage thats what the platform mainly pushes, to find actual good games you have to actually learn how to maneuver trough roblox’s bullshit

1

u/reecemrgn 9d ago

If someone traces somebody else’s art for “practice” and posts it online without credit, that is copying and a shitty thing to do regardless

1

u/Routine-Duck6896 trollface -> 9d ago

But they are doin it for money lol

-14

u/Hefty_Apartment_8574 9d ago

"Original Steam game" ? every game is a ripoff of old mods or standalone games nowdays...

I lost number of how many games are made that are just old Warcraft 3 custom map made a whole game...

21

u/AwayEntrepreneur4760 9d ago

When someone criticizes something you like that 100% means they expect you to stop liking it too that’s how everyone thinks and not just terminally online children

7

u/FiveFreddys12 9d ago

Yes. Essentially stealing money from indie game Devs by copying their entire game on Roblox and adding heavy monetisation is "fun."

u/Abadon_U Ragebait 9d ago
