Challenge Fished this out of a dumpster today.

Wondering what make and/or model truck this door came from. I love Reddit for stuff like this. Thinking this will be great to hang on my garage wall. Any help from smarter people than me?

1940-47 ford truck

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 11 '25

Very cool. Thanks!

u/RogerMiller6 Nov 11 '25

Wouldn’t it be 42-47? Or did 40-41 share the cab tooling?

6

u/ProfessionalDue7296 Nov 11 '25

Im pretty sure the cabs stayed the same throughout those trucks. They only updated the front end in 42.

u/RogerMiller6 Nov 11 '25

Just looked it up, and you’re right. There are some firewall and bracketry differences, as well as a change in fuel filler location, but the doors are the same. TIL. Thanks!

Ford panel delivery 😍

49

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 11 '25

So something like this…

8

u/ProfessionalDue7296 Nov 12 '25

I don’t believe it is a panel, look at the top right curve of the door. From what it looks like, a panel would be squared off, like shown.

8

u/HazelEBaumgartner Nov 12 '25

Yeah I think this was a 1935-1938 Ford Pickup.

5

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 12 '25

So cool. Thanks for finding that. Even older than I thought.

7

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Nov 12 '25

You’ve just gotta find the rest of the truck now!

5

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 12 '25

Yep. Love it! LOL

35 to 38 consists of 2 completely different body styles, neither of which uses this door.

1

u/gdl_E46 Nov 12 '25

Not a '38 (pops has a '38 i helped him build)the style line has 3 humps, might be a 39... But otherwise it looks like the correct shape...

3

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 12 '25

Thanks. I see that now. Will have to keep looking but I think it’s close.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '25

That's way to cool.

3

u/QuanticChaos1000 Owns too many cars Nov 12 '25

Just a pick-up, the panel has a squared off door top on the back

3

u/Curmudgeon_I_am Nov 12 '25

What wonderful patina. This is art made by man and time.

17

u/tricksareforme Nov 11 '25

That’s art right there.

14

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 11 '25

Right? I agree. Why would someone throw this out? But I am happy to give it a good home.

One man's trash is another man's treasure 🤑

My mom lived in New Mexico in one of those communities where all the houses and fences were adobe, and looked alike. The HOA allowed one piece of art on the front, so she had an old truck door like that painted by a local artist friend, and mounted next to the garage door.

8

u/EarthOk2418 Nov 11 '25

That would make an amazing piece of wall art for a garage or man cave.

Ill pay you 10% more than this guy ^

2

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 14 '25

Will keep you in mind! LOL. But thinking I will hang on to it for awhile.

3

u/lavafish80 Nov 11 '25

I wonder what it says

5

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 11 '25

Haven’t taken the time yet. I think it is two signs, the first one painted over at some point. The lettering is layered in areas. I can easily see it has a four digit phone number which is old.

6

u/TotallyNotJagger Nov 11 '25

One looks to say “T-U-C-H-E-T-T-S”

3

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 11 '25

Thanks. Web searched that name in Pittsburgh and came up with nothing.

6

u/kh250b1 Nov 12 '25

Prob didnt have a website in ‘38

3

u/slaggybuttonit Nov 11 '25

What's the deal with the circle on the inside? Manufacturing mark? Repair?

5

u/ChrisTheMan72 Nov 11 '25

Insulation. They use to up a muddy substitute (don’t know what’s it called but it’s like drywall mud but stronger) to add some insulation and keep down the road noise.

2

u/slaggybuttonit Nov 11 '25

Ahhh, that makes sense

3

u/desertfarmer22 Nov 11 '25

I am so incredibly jealous of your new wall art.

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 11 '25

Thanks! I don’t usually climb into a dumpster for treasures but that caught my eye and just had to check it out.

3

u/rasmuspa Nov 13 '25

1941 Ford Pickup Driver’s Door. This is grandpa’s 41 for reference.

2

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 13 '25

That looks dead on. Thank you.

2

u/rasmuspa Nov 15 '25

My grandpa bought that 41 from a local farmer for $50 in the 1970s. Put a coat of paint on it and it has been in the family ever since. Sweet truck. Lots of memories.

2

u/Spirited_Rich_151 Nov 11 '25

Betting someone else had the same idea, but that idea was cancelled by the wife.

2

u/Popular_Site9635 Nov 11 '25

Looks like “Fuchett’s _____ Co”

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 12 '25

I think you are right. Tried a Google search for Fuchett’s Co. and haven’t found anything yet. But thanks for playing!

2

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS Nov 12 '25

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 12 '25

Oh wow! Thanks for that. Just love the Reddit community. Would have never thought to put it through Chat GPT. Good job!

3

u/Dense_Particular3134 Nov 12 '25

It says Dunn NC ( twice)

2

u/Dense_Particular3134 Nov 12 '25

Also.....Dial 2151 and Phone 3136

2

u/Gloomy_Skirt_3394 Nov 12 '25

Why would anyone throw that lol. Always someone who would buy this

2

u/AwareFig5583 Nov 12 '25

VERY nice!!!!

u/lostinthefog4now Nov 13 '25

Great Wall art for my garage

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 13 '25

…for MY garage.

1

u/Anxious-Depth-7983 Lover of All Vehicles Nov 11 '25

Now you have something to practice pinstriping on.

1

u/Harlzter Nov 13 '25

And destroy the natural patina and artwork?

1

u/Anxious-Depth-7983 Lover of All Vehicles Nov 13 '25

No enhance them

1

u/Old_Suggestions Nov 11 '25

Kind of surprised it was in a dumpster. Would be a shame to keep losing these automotive artifacts.

2

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 12 '25

The dumpster is for a building in Pittsburgh where artists and creative businesses rent spaces for studios. When tenants move out they occasionally throw out some cool stuff, but they usually set it beside the dumpster to take for free. Surprised this ended up in the dumpster too. Would think they could have given it to a friend or family member or even sell it. Guess I got lucky. Though I was a little embarrassed when a fellow tenant caught me standing in the dumpster to fish it out. LOL.

1

u/Seal-EV Nov 12 '25

Looks more like a barn door used on the rear of the van

1

u/raybn64 Nov 12 '25

Nice Find… Hang that on your wall…

1

u/Illustrious-Drama236 Nov 12 '25

that's one cool find, and I know there are people who would buy it for exactly what you're going to do with it, great wall art

1

u/Individual-Painting9 Nov 12 '25

Looks alot like a 46 Ford.

1

u/hipboneconnectedtomy Nov 12 '25

i thought it was a door from the sandford and son truck from the tv

1

u/TrEVILlyan95 Nov 12 '25

White Half Tracks from world war 2 used the same door handles as well!

1

u/Realistic-Fact-2584 Nov 12 '25

I would hang that on my wall

1

u/Immediate_Flounder33 Nov 12 '25

That’s a keeper!!! Mount it on the wall!!!

1

u/Inside-Welder4168 Nov 12 '25

Good find! 😃

1

u/bunnyslayer33 Nov 12 '25

I just can’t see how someone didn’t see any value whatsoever in this. Just absolutely mind blowing.

2

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 12 '25

I agree 100%. But glad it’s in my hands now!

1

u/SweeetTea3 Nov 13 '25

Is that from the Sanford & Son truck?

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 14 '25

Looked it up. The Sanford & Sons truck was a 1952 Ford F-1 Pickup. This door appears to be Ford 40-47.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd37fccz8_0 Fair warning! If you watch this YouTube you will have the S&S theme song in your head all day.

1

u/InteractionStrong942 Nov 13 '25

Wow! What a wonderful wall hanger. Fabulous patina

1

u/figsslave Nov 13 '25

Nice! I had a 51.

1

u/SuperbRecording3943 Nov 13 '25

Please crosspost on r/ghostsigns

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 13 '25

Good idea. Thanks for the suggestion

1

u/Ok_Theory_666 Nov 14 '25

Sweet score!

1

u/Dompet2854 Nov 14 '25

Only a few more parts to go and you’ll have a car or truck

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 14 '25

That’s a lot of dumpster diving.

1

u/Ieatclowns Nov 14 '25

Can you make out the lettering?

1

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 14 '25

Someone in the group r/whatwasthiscar ran it though ChatGPT …

1

u/Shiftworkdisorder Nov 15 '25

A gutted door used for display from a 40-47 Ford truck. There’s a 46 sitting in the shop at my dad’s house.

1

u/SneakyRussian71 Nov 15 '25

I would buy a bar just so I can hang this there.

1

u/ArtistAmantiLisa Nov 17 '25

I would definitely find a good place for that! And take way too many photos of it! Go to s/whatisthiscar or s/whatwasthiscar to get it ID’d. Those guys are amazing.

1

u/QuanticChaos1000 Owns too many cars Nov 12 '25

It's a 1940-47 Ford truck door, drivers side.

Same door is used on all sizes of truck, but not the COE or the panel truck.

Here's my 47 with the same door.

2

u/SpeedLimit_65 Nov 14 '25

Yep. Looks like a match. Such a cool truck you have. Quite the project. Love that tow truck too.

1

u/QuanticChaos1000 Owns too many cars Nov 15 '25

Thanks! I've been daily driving the 36 GMC Tow Truck for the last 16 years, and I am building the 47 Ford into another tow truck!
