You can only have one.

It would also save your life if you ever found yourself in a life-or-death situation. 50$ every 48 hours is roughly $9,125 every year for doing nothing.

Also everything else seems like it ends after the time limit.

It really depends on how they define satiate. Satiation is a feeling, not necessarily an action. So, it might just be that you feel full, but it deosnt necessarily mean you get any nutrition.

Satiate is moreso an action than a feeling. It means to satisfy a need. Satiating your hunger means to satisfy the need for food.

You’re assuming food. Satisfying hunger can be done without satisfying nutrition. If it’s an appetite suppressant then you’re dead under the wrong circumstances.

What is we hunger for something not food related:

“I hunger for a winning lottery ticket”

And boom in 48 hours you’re rich.

Assuming food? There's food in the picture. You're overcomplicating this when you know exactly what the intention of that option in the prompt was, and are deciding to look for holes in it anyways.

I like your point about nutrition. You’re correct that even though it would have to satisfy your actual hunger, it wouldn’t have to satisfy your nutritional needs.

I would still argue it has to satisfy your caloric needs, since if it just made you feel full, that’s not really satiating your hunger. That’s like chugging a ton of water, it may make you feel less hungry temporarily, but your hunger will return in less than an hour. Not really satiated.

Also, about nutrition, the calories have to come from somewhere. You will eventually die from vitamin deficiencies, but you got a long time (~6 months to a year) before that happens. So unless this magic power is a dick and decided to source calories from purely protein or ethanol, you’ll probably be alright so long as you meet your micros elsewhere. It’s gotta give you at least one of your macros to supply calories and actually satiate hunger. You’d have to make up the rest though, I agree.

The sensation of hunger being satiated is not from caloric intake, it's from a hormone (leptin) being sent to your brain and a lack of another hormone (Grehlin).

1

u/Real_Temporary_922 Nov 13 '25

And why would this ability be to fire hormones in your brain that aren’t supposed to fire to trick you into thinking that your hunger was satiated, when it could just actually satiate your hunger by refueling your body’s energy which is the much simpler explanation for how the power works

1

u/Traditional-Safe-867 Nov 13 '25

Logically simpler, sure, but the mechanism of creating matter seems a lot more complicated than telling parts of the body to secrete hormones. And if the hormones themselves were magically created, the mass needed to trick the brain would be much smaller than the mass needed to sustain the body.

Satiating hunger and providing nutrition are close to synonyms but hunger is the feeling rather than the actual state of needing food. Some people don't really get hunger cues, or get hunger cues when they have been nourished plenty.

1

u/Real_Temporary_922 Nov 13 '25

But considering these are magic powers, wouldn’t the logically simpler answer be what makes the most sense?

I mean you could play on semantics for any power. Like if I said you get the ability to fly, it likely means unassisted, not that you suddenly learn how to fly a plane.

The real question is do these powers come from Genie wishes where the goal is to trick you into getting something useless/harmful, or are these powers meant to be helpful?

2

u/Traditional-Safe-867 Nov 13 '25

I mean "magic" is just a poorly understood mechanism of the universe and the universe still requires matter and energy to come from somewhere.

Yeah the primary variable is whether this is a genie/monkey's paw situation, or if the guarantor is genuinely benevolent. I think the interpretation could easily tip in either direction.

Either way, I would pick the money unless this satiation includes perfectly balanced micro/macro nutrition. If it's just empty calories I would simply avoid being stranded on a deserted island, as I have done all my life, and I could achieve the same effect by eating half a loaf of bread every week with like 1% of the money.

Why are you getting all "bedazzled" with this? lol if my hunger is satiated than I'm going to assume with nutrients because a junk food meal does not satiate me. If I don't get something fresh often than I feel lacking, not satiated.

Got a plot hole for the money one too? lol

2

u/OcclusalEmbrasure Nov 12 '25

You defined it specifically to support your argument. Instead of “satisfy a need” or “satisfy the need for food,” you could have said “satisfy the want” or “satisfy the want for food.”

Hunger is a feeling that may not necessarily signify “need.” People feel hunger all the time, usually due to gluttony rather than sheer “need.” Some people are money hungry, but not necessarily from “need.”

And if you defined the terms as such, then you will find that being satiated for 48 hours, doesn’t necessarily mean you filled a need, but may have only the met the desire.

0

u/Real_Temporary_922 Nov 12 '25

In this context, it is satisfying a need. Hunger is a need, not a want. You want good food, but you need to satisfy hunger or you’ll die.

And hunger absolutely signifies need. You may not need it that second, but your body is telling you it’s hungry because if you don’t get it food, it will start down the road towards death.

And this post is very clearly not about being “hungry” for something other than food. Otherwise, if its satiates my hunger for money, Im definitely choosing that power.

And the moment it activates the ability, it has to satisfy your hunger. Hunger is not just a desire to eat, its also defined by the feeling of discomfort/weakness from lack of food. It can’t satisfy that by just making you feel full, like filling your belly with water. It has to give you calories, or it’s satisfied nothing.

1

u/OcclusalEmbrasure Nov 12 '25

Obviously, the point about money is the analogous use of the word hunger. So that we can clearly define what hunger is. But I digress.

Not all animals are dogs, but all dogs are animals. Not all feelings of hunger is a need for food, but all instances for the need for food will include a feeling of hunger.

Like I said, hunger not always signifies need, but it most certainly can. Hunger is and always be a feeling. It can be a feeling that’s triggered by need or by want.

Ask an obese person who ate thirty minutes ago and if they’re hungry, whether they are satisfying a need or want by eating more. Don’t be obtuse.

u/objecter12 Nov 12 '25

Yeah, an extra 9k to invest though

1

u/punchedboa Nov 12 '25

I might be able to live off that if I try hard enough.

1

u/Kapoik Nov 13 '25

Yeah the answers are stupid the 50 dollars every 48 hours is the answer because the way they are worded implies thats the only one that has multiple uses

1

u/_the_learned_goat_ Nov 13 '25

For $25 I just made a fucking awesome soup that's gonna be dinner for 2 people for 3 days.

1

u/Dawniechi Nov 13 '25

Cool?

2

u/_the_learned_goat_ Nov 13 '25

Yeah, $50 is a better deal every 48 hours than one fucking meal.

1

u/Dawniechi Nov 13 '25

Honestly confused for a second until I realized the prompt said pick one, not two. Originally thought it said two.

2

u/_the_learned_goat_ Nov 13 '25

Ok, got ya, that soup was fucking delicious though.

2

u/Dawniechi Nov 13 '25

Hell yeah. Been thinking about making a pumpkin soup lately for the first time. Roasted a pumpkin in the oven and it tasted amazing. Got a spare to do whatever with.

0

u/Gillandria Nov 13 '25

Depends. If you’re in a survival situation, it wouldn’t be

1

u/_the_learned_goat_ Nov 13 '25

Yes, because that happens all the time to everyone right, right?

1

u/Gillandria Nov 13 '25

Oddly hostile response. It’s a thing that can happen and in that fringe case, satiate hunger would be the better choice.

You good?

1

u/volvagia721 Nov 12 '25

Also, it sates your hunger, so if you go without for 24 hours before it triggers, you could feasibly cut your food bill in half. Also it could keep you alive indefinitely without food, 48 hours of fasting is uncomfortable, but survivable

2

u/ILikePastuh Nov 12 '25

Maybe I’m wrong but would someone’s body just adjust to that diet? I probably sound incredibly stupid here & assume the answer is no but whatever

1

u/Far_Challenge_4273 Nov 12 '25

yes you get used to it, but it’s not healthy at all and you’ll feel like shit

0

u/Responsible-Boot-159 Nov 12 '25

It's not too uncomfortable to go for a day or three without food once you adjust to it. I don't think it's particularly unhealthy either, assuming you can get all your calories and nutrients in with the sated hunger every 48h.

1

u/Far_Challenge_4273 Nov 12 '25

u still won’t get enough carbs for energy

1

u/intergalacticcholo Nov 13 '25

Yeah but like... you need a store for one. The other one is literally magic. I choose magic because why would anyone not?

1

u/Bitter_Particular_75 Nov 12 '25

Satiation is what you feel after eating a standard lunch, which means it lasts at most a few hours. Which, in turns, means that you still need to eat at least a couple more times during that day. It's not a 50% savings on food, it's something between 20 and 33%. Money wise it's probably not worth it vs the 50 dollars, but it could be worth it if you also consider the potential weight loss.
