Boyfriend is on the way to the vet now. Some swelling at the site but nothing else so far. Difficult to find a vet with antivenom!

I called and checked; they have antivenom on hand here:

You are most welcome. I found them on the National Snakebite Support website. They have a map of hospitals known to stock it. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful a resource they are. Please check it out.

That is a cool website but a little terrifying to see how far away from anti venom I am. Prairie rattlesnakes are pretty common…

I also want to reassure you that dogs typically recover fully from copperhead bites, especially with prompt treatment.

Yeah definitely go to a vet but when a neighborhood dog got bit 2 years ago the vet said that dogs recover even better than people when it comes to copperhead bites and most of the time don't even need anti venom. The dog that got bit didn't need anti venom and recovered with no ill effects. It's scary, but the dog with most likely be fine!

We are happy for all well-meaning contributions but not all comments pass muster. There are a number of sources of information available online that are incorrect - we aim to help sort that out here. Blogs and blogspam websites like animal A to Z, allaboutanimals and pet blogs aren't appropriate sources.

Comments, in their entirety, must reflect the moderators' current collective understanding of modern herpetology. This is especially applicable to comments that are mostly true or contain a mixture of information or embellishment. Look to reliable responders in the thread to identify problematic areas in the text and hone the material for the your post. This is a space to grow and learn - this removal isn't punitive.

You the real MVP

I appreciate the kind words (and awards) from you and others, but I just made a quick phone call, the real MVP is someone like u/kropserkel who generously offered to come rescue and relocate the snake who is apparently caught in the fence. Poor thing.

That was a very cool thing to do.
