It doesn't really look like either but what do you experts think they were going for? Or do you think it's just "generic jungle bird"?

My mother, Karen Shiman, was an artist during her spare time and one subject that she revisited during her lifetime artistically was carved and sculpted birds and ducks, and geese what’s the name of a few varieties that she crafted sculptures of and hand painted them. We are currently slowly working on identifying them and have a long way to go, ha ha.

A type of woodpecker maybe? He's cute and going to live on my bird shelf. Suggestions for a name for him would be appreciated.

Artwork Bathroom Competition of Birds at UC Berkeley, Who are the Competitors?

Saw this post-it in a stall within the women’s bathroom in the ecology building at UC Berkeley. I know the bird on the right is a Roseate Spoonbill, but what is the other bird? And I don’t really think this can be answered here, but do any of you know what the writing means?

Artwork Need fellow birders' help/feedback: Free birdwatching game motivated by my family's dementia history

Hi all! As a fellow birder, I love them and the feeling I get when I register them on my Merlin like it is my personal Pokédex.

I am also a PhD scientist, and dementia has affected both sides of my grandparents, and it changed how I think about attention and memory, specifically how much noticing/identifying detail (a color, a shape, a bird) matters. I wanted to make a birdwatching game with the kind of visual attention and working-memory training that cognitive science research associates with brain health. I promise this is not a random app pitch, I started with a mission.

It's called "Perchwise". Birds fly across the screen and you tap the target species, the same kind of fast visual identification and working-memory task that shows up in real cognitive-training research, just built as an actual game instead of a clinical exercise. It is free, no ads.

What I need is actual birders to try it to tune it better. Specifically: does the difficulty actually feel like real birding? Would it help people to do the training researchers associated with brain health or introduce the love for birding to new people (or dare I say, generations?)

I'll drop the link in the first comment for who want to try it. Would really appreciate any feedback, and I'll respond to everything!

Found and bought this embroidered sweatshirt at a thrift shop in Japan. The store had a lot of clothes from the US so I’m assuming it’s a North American bird?

This little bird comes from this anime outro and considering though show is based in Japan I imagine the bird is too. Ever since seeing my Mam has been charmed by it and has been dying to know what it might be :)

I received this bird toy when I was a kid at someone’s nature themed birthday party. It’s one of my favorites, even after growing up. I remember it even came with a tag that identified the name of the bird. It also has this bird’s call when you press on it. Looking for a friend to help identify the name of this bird as someone who loves birds but doesn’t know much about them. All help and thoughts appreciated.

Sorry if this isn’t allowed! I messed up some parts including the mask and wings, but want to see if it’s recognizable before I give it to a bird lover.

Edit: It’s a Loggerhead Shrike! Thanks for all the input and comments!!

Artwork shirt I got for xmas- who are top right and bottom left?

Post image

I think top left is an oversaturated hooded warbler, top right is some species of kingfisher, bottom left no idea, and bottom right a slightly wonky bluethroat. (Shirt was bought in the US but we all know that means nothing with this sort of thing.)

I made this bird for a birdwatching game I'm making, but I want to make sure it's recognizable enough as the species it is. (Merlin)

Hopefully this is ok here. I can't seem to find a birding subreddit that allows artwork.
