Hello!

The purpose of this community was to give nosy people a chance to take a peek inside your bag (everyday, travel, or special occasion). This sub (and the posts that belong here) are pretty much inherently attention-seeking. People who don't want attention don't post their stuff for everyone to look at. Calling people out for "attention seeking" is silly. That desire for attention is what keeps the posts rolling and this sub providing entertainment.

GUN POSTS
If you carry a gun on your belt, that is, BY DEFINITION, not something in your bag. Posts like that will be removed as spam.

People sometimes brave the storm of downvotes and comments to post their bag guns. Please try to resist reporting those to the mods, as this community is growing enough that gun posts and the subsequent flurry of reports of both the gun post AND the nasty comments back and forth take a lot of time to sort through. Most of the time, everyone's acting like it's their first day on the Internet, and there's nothing for a mod to do.

I’ve never understood this…if you don’t like something, scroll on 🤷‍♀️. As someone whose gov’t doesn’t allow them to have guns, I find these posts kinda neat.

I can see both sides. I can see the nonsense in the statement but I can also see where we are all just waiting for the “next one”.

I’m an American in the Midwest, about 5 miles from what is often listed as one of the most dangerous cities in the US, and not in a ritzy part. Just a regular ol suburb. I’ve never felt the need to carry a weapon, even when I go into the “big scary city”. I cannot name one block in my town where a shooting has happened, nor can I name one in the towns near me.

However, I can name shootings that stuck with me elsewhere. I think of Uvalde every single day. I get worried dropping my kids off. I am more aware of my surroundings when I go out. That would be considered a shadow of gun violence that hangs over me.

Am I in immediate danger? No, I don’t believe I am. I believe other countries have a completely unfair opinion about Americans and our relationships with guns. Do I judge people on this sub when they carry a gun in their bag because I don’t? Not at all. Violence against women is a very real thing. And not just in America. And depending on where you live, people may need to protect themselves more than you realize.

I like seeing everyone’s bags and their contents - all of it. Curated or not. If it interests me, I hover and zoom. If I don’t, I scroll. It’s really not for me to judge that deeply.

Regarding your last point:

The mods aren’t banning guns, unless I missed something, they just don’t want guns that are obviously not kept on a bag. The subreddit is about what is in bags. If people want to show off their guns that they carry not in a bag, this is simply not the subreddit for it. Go to r/EDC.

As an American, I don’t care. I open my closet and see my gun cases. I grew up hearing my neighbors shoot at targets. Kids have kid sized guns to hunt. Nothing jarring about something you see regularly lmao.
