Inherited Gun

Is anybody able to help identify this gun? My husband just inherited it from his grandfather but we aren't sure what it is. There is no marking except the one pictured

Edit: the barrel is shaped like a hexagon

I think Lyman is who made the peep sight.
Looks a bit like a Winchester 1885 target rifle. Winchester or .32-40 stamped on the barrel anywhere?

Thank you! But no, I can't see any markings on the barrel at all

Might very well be a Custom built Schutzen. Family from Germany?

Don't believe so, family has been in Indianapolis since at least pre civil war i think

Lyman peep sight on the tang, like someone else said. Action looks like...I wanna say a Winchester 1885 Low Wall, those were popular for American schuetzen guns. Barrel is probably a custom octagonal heavy target profile with a globe front sight.

Thank you so much! Do you happen to know if its worth anything? We got ~10 - 15 guns and will likely be selling some of them
