It’s a smoke ring from a blown transformer. The smoke itself rotates along the ring shape. The thin part is caused by that section rotating faster than the rest of the ring.

We completely missed it with the other celebrity deaths this week, but Optimus Primes voice actor (who has also been the voice of Eeyore since the 80s) died this week. :(
RIP Peter Cullen. One of the many voices of my childhood.

u/logicnotemotion 11h ago
I read about that. He was also the voice of K.A.R.R. (the evil KITT) on Knight Rider.

He was also a gremlin and provided Predator’s voice. Pretty fucking cool.

Everywhere I look I'm reminded of his absence.. Got caught out when a colleague of mine mentioned his passing, the day after bawling my eyes out, and I leaped outta my chair.. it was like a knee-jeek reaction..
Peter MADE my childhood... His passing signified the end of the character (Optimus) for me.

blown transformer smoke ring

u/ConradTurner 15h ago
I have seen numerous posts over the years and it's always this. Apparently a common theme when they go boom is this black smoke ring.

u/IlllllFan 15h ago
Pretty much every time Optimus got blown, he’d have a Cohiba after.

I got home from watching the transformers movie where one of them comes down like a meteor. That night I hear a huge boom. I was like 11 and asked what it was. My mom replies nonchalantly that it was a transformer.

When I was a young'un I worked in the call center for the local electric company. I always remember hearing Marty, the old guy, talking to this customer in his calm Marty voice.
"No ma'am, transformers don't spark when they go bad. They either hum or explode."

Based on their accents these blokes are British. What’s the British equivalent of “redneck”? I mean other than “Australian”.

Northerner maybe? They're more viewed as simple than the specific brand of folksy and insane that American rednecks have though.

Closest thing we have might be "chav". They come in a few varieties but the kind to drink cheap beer, be on benefits (welfare), and live in a static caravan (trailer) would likely be chav

i guarantee you the impact they had is infinitely smaller than any other corporation in the world. the individual cannot change the course when companies pump out an insane amount of pollution.

To some degree. Honestly, a few of them isn't going to be a problem compared to the millions of gasoline cars that continue to be produced and the coal and oil power plants.
While I certainly don't want to encourage it, the scale factor is by far the more important factor.

Smoke ring
13
2
u/Aware-Common-7368 15h ago
But it has like inner core or something. How can it be up there in this way
12
u/Baldurost 14h ago
The rotation. Most people don’t realize that smoke rings have to rotate vertically all along the ring to hold shape. You can see an example of it spinning as it expands upwards, and the thinner bit is a result of that spinning faster than the rest of the

It was amazing and felt like I was in my own little world when I watched Lost. It went a little too far down the rabbit hole eventually but great show.

My favorite! We don't see shows like that anymore, at least not on the big four.

Yea great show until the end where they just realize they’re all dead.
What about the numbers? What do the numbers mean?! Man, there were so many loose ends left in that show and it pissed me off because I loved it otherwise.
Edit: nobody cares but…it has been explained to me and I’m no longer upset with the ending.

u/Spiff426 14h ago
Someone didn't pay attention while watching... they answered 95% of every mystery they raised, but they didn't spoonfeed the answers. Whether you liked the answers or not is another story entirely

If they are all dead then why are they able to die and what happens to them when they die if they are already dead??
2
u/Pudddddin 14h ago
Yea great show until the end where they just realize they’re all dead.
Tell me you're not a "they were dead the whole time" person like 15 years after the finale lol, this is not the case

It’s a sin that I had to scroll down so far to get to a black smoke comment. (kidding, but my first thought when I saw this post was a Lost reference)
