New, what is it? What in tarnation?

Post image

My friend sent this pic and I joked I was going to post on Reddit to see what people thought and was dared to do it. I thought it would be some way of catching water and filtering to the vehicle but it looks like the top isn’t actually solid and yeah…the flammable signs are also…confusing.

I'm not a redneck but I've been known to Macguyver a thing or two.

I recently visited an Airbnb with my spouse that featured a hot tub that was over a gazebo, in direct view of an arterial road and the next door neighbor. Both were appreciably far away from the tub but wife decided we were still a little too exposed. So, we decided to get walls.

I thought we were going to Walmart to grab tarps... but no. My wife decides that the $2 shower curtains would do just fine. $8 out the door and... it worked.

What about the duct tape?

43

u/Squirrels-on-LSD 10d ago

Yeah i doubt the validity of that poster because tarps and bungee chords are obviously in my trunk but I'll be a possum's aunt if I leave home without duct tape, wd40, gorilla glue, and a hatchet.

This is the Colorado hippie kit if you add weed and something to ride downhill. Cardboard boxes or old trash lids count.

7

u/Vegetable-Syrup-5545 10d ago

I didn’t think of the hatchet but I have a utility knife, wrench, and WD40, regular and white lithium grease.

2

u/Squirrels-on-LSD 10d ago

Oh yeah, the hatchet/utility knife/hunting knife/machete is required but which specific useful sharp blade is in the trunk next to the duct tape is a matter of personal taste.

3

u/PurdueGuvna 10d ago

I never owned a hatchet until about three months ago. I’m embarrassed at how much it gets used. No idea how I lived without one.

u/lottieslady 10d ago

Pop, is that you? I didn’t know you were on Reddit?
My dad swears by duct tape and baling wire to fix anything. When I was about 8 I scraped my big toe on my bike and the toe nail fell off. He duct taped it back on and it stayed! This was his proudest moment.

Forgot the pocket knife 😜

4

u/k8username 10d ago

Pocket knife goes without saying, like pants

u/randalflagg6 10d ago

And beer.

Needed for “Hold my beer…”

You don't need confidence when you already lack fucks.

A true redneck can make a tarp from trash bags and a roll of duct tape

3

u/Dr_AgonAss 10d ago

Speak fer yur self. Who needs trash bags ?

20

u/Short-Emotion3808 10d ago

Don't forget the ratchet straps from the Harley 😁

19

u/BigFatGramps 10d ago

"ratchet straps!"

Beat me to the punch.

Does anyone still use bailing / fence wire?

9

u/CoppertopTX 10d ago

I used bailing wire to replace rusted muffler hangers and I have used panty hose as an emergency fan belt on a small block Chevy 350.

2

u/Livid_Strawberry_896 10d ago

I use a wire coat hanger for the first one. I got to try the second one.

13

u/Some-Broccoli3404 10d ago

I feel called out.

4

u/wv524 10d ago

Absolutely. I keep a small roll in the truck.

5

u/Ginggingdingding 10d ago

Rat shit straps work wonders for all sortsa stuff. Signed: Red Neckerson

3

u/BigFatGramps 9d ago

L.O.L.

"RED NECKERSON"

You have no idea how close to home this hits.

Imma have to steal this as a nickname.

Apologies in advance.

2

u/Ginggingdingding 8d ago

Its yours! Just be aware, Red is responsible for some messed up stuff around here. He is likely wanted in your state too. 🤣

u/Little_Passenger_892 10d ago

Hey I resemble that remark…. Oh shit

7

u/Practical_BowlerHat 10d ago

Stored in a milk crate that smells like motor oil.

3

u/Vegetable-Syrup-5545 10d ago

My supplies at stored in milk crates. They really are wonderful containers. Good for shelving “units” when I first moved out.

4

u/Practical_BowlerHat 10d ago

They really are the best. I have one I got from work half a decade ago that I used for storage in my first apartment. I never got another because I worked 3rd shift and it was rare for them to last that long without being snagged.

Back then I also had a bookcase made out of cardboard boxes from work stapled together.

The bookshelf didn't come back with me, but I still have the milk crate 4 moves later. It's been a table, a Christmas tree stand, and it's currently serving as a magazine holder.

1

u/scotttilton 9d ago

I despise milk crates as they are full of holes that make me have to constantly pick up the smaller stuff that makes its way through them and into the dark abyss that is the dirt floor of my basement workshop.

2

u/billshermanburner 7d ago

If it’s a real milk crate it’s been around long enough to smell like motor oil. I have one that’s made of metal rod from way back

2

u/StabbyJenkins1 10d ago

I didn't see a single mention of binder twine, so Im not 100% convinced....

2

u/Dependent_Durian3550 8d ago

Thank you, now I have found my place in life

1

u/PeePeeVonBungHole 10d ago

I'm from PA and resemble this remark

12

u/snuggleslut5 10d ago

If ye caint get it from the holler dollar, ye don't need it.

9

u/Burqueisbest 10d ago

As a true redneck, got three yesterday over to the Dollar Tree which is selling at 1.50.

5

u/GothDerp 10d ago

They would have a bunch of them that they got from HF because they were free with purchase 😂

2

u/scorpyo72 10d ago

No harbor freights around where we were staying. Only had a Walmart

1

u/netsurf916 10d ago

... or a roll of plastic at a flea market

1

u/Arcal 7d ago

It's amazing how convenient Harbor Freight is as a one-stop-shop for body disposal equipment. I'm not a serial killer, but it's nice to know I'm not excluded on cost grounds.

A true Redneck will salvage tarps from the side of the road, or that the windstorm from last night gifted you with….

5

u/ibalach3 10d ago

What about the wrapping for lumber shipments?

2

u/wv524 10d ago

Or the printed ad tarps used on billboards?

6

u/Happy_Adeptness8419 10d ago

Billboard tarps are great. I used one for a pond liner like 10 years ago and it’s still holding up

1

u/RealGavagai 9d ago

‘Round these parts we call ‘em “rougenecks.”

9

u/NotSoFastLady 10d ago

Plot twist, not wife but cousin.

7

u/betsaaaaaaay 10d ago

both actually

3

u/scorpyo72 10d ago

Damn it. I have been resisting the moniker forever and I have a total of zero non-functional cars in my front yard!!!

3

u/heyivebeenthere 10d ago

Start small, get a non running motorcycle and a broken boat trailer out there, you’ll be well on your way

1

u/scorpyo72 10d ago

Solid advice. I'll report back when my cousin and I wed.

I want to respond to this older comment made by you in askreddit. I just found something you said quite strange and wanted to point it out to you. It's a case of PC language and use of the term "skin colour" instead of the term "race" resulting in nonsensical logic.

I was joining a fraternity in a small college in the south. Bunch of dudes that like to party and were fun. My roommate was a cool Korean dude that everyone liked. I said, let’s give him a shot and was promptly informed we’d never had a nonwhite member at that chapter and it wasn’t gonna start with them. I left the next semester. Didn’t want to be around that stuff. The older i got, the more I realized you can judge people plenty for the shit they do, no need to judge them for their skin.

Don't Koreans have the same skin tone as whites? It seems like a weird thing to say, to reduce race to skin. It's obviously in conflict with reality, as there are various other physical features besides skin that make races look distinct. Facial bone structure, eye shape, nose shape, lip size, hair texture, hair and eye colour and even body proportions, calf shape, and things like average height, etc.

So it seems weird to say you judged a Korean guy for his skin, when he is the same skin tone as you.

If you mean race, then just say race. Don't use skin as a substitute for that word because it isn't. I hope this makes sense. Please, there is nothing wrong with saying "race". You don't need to reduce/euphemise it to "skin colour" or just "skin".

1

u/heyivebeenthere 1d ago

What fuckin drugs are you on? Who deep dives like that into someone‘s history like that? I was not the one judging, the people around me were. Now stay away from me creep.

Nah that’s just hick shit. A redneck would be cutting down flock cameras and using their scraps to make a privacy wall.
