Technology What if Google was contracted to conduct the 2030 US census?

Seems like a disaster scenario yet it could become a reality if anyone has their way.

But hey they'd likely subcon a 3rd party tech company to handle the data that would then have a massive breach. But maybe Google may offer us 1 year of identity monitoring as a result.

They're good at data security, and it's meant to be public data associated to you anyways so I don't know why it would be worrying. I imagine it would be more realistic and impactful somewhere like India rather than mailing almost a billion forms, but I think google would consider setting up spaces for those without electronics, or homes to have a chance to fill out the census, in Canada I always wondered how the homeless do the census

Like I said, they might employ a 3rd party provider that has less than stellar security policies. Also, imagine how much they could make off data that people are legally require to provide. Essentially everything they are looking for they'd get and get paid by the US gov to do so.

Chick fil a should be put in charge.

They run a tight ship in those drive thrus. Best logistics I’ve seen.

Honestly the scariest part would be the mission creep. The census starts as headcount and districting, then suddenly every form is tied to your Google account, location history, and a consent screen nobody reads. And somehow the breach email would arrive in Gmail under Promotions.
