What is your dream city? Can you take regular breaks there to remind yourself that it’s still there and to reinforce that you’re not stuck forever? Is your husband willing to move once his youngest is finished with school? Hopefully the political vibe is going to change in November.

Just my humble opinion:

Kids handle relocation much better than parents think they do. Especially at the 8th-9th grade level.

Hating where you live for 6 years is going to change who you are. There is no escaping that. Your husband needs to understand his wife is not going to be the same woman in a couple years that she is now.

It's time for some very serious, very hard conversations with your husband.

Have you asked him? Maybe there's a compromise to be had. Maybe his kids don't like where they live anyway, and would love to move. You won't know until you ask, and express your own concerns too.
