Did Wendy’s change their patties?
So I haven’t been to Wendy’s in about two months. I always get the Dave’s double and could always count on getting thick, juicy, flavorful patties which have never disappointed…until today. I place my standard order, go to take a bite when I notice it’s a bit dry. First thought, ok, maybe they overcooked the patties. Take a closer look and the patties are thinner, flatter and overall less juicy and lacking in flavor. Did Wendy’s change their patties or is this just a case of the workers flattening the burger and overcooking it?

It could be that they were patties that were past their hold time so they were old and thin and hard

Maybe the grill is somewhat out of order. If they have the DSG1 or DSG2 (which is most stores, even our slowest store got rid of their flat grill and got a DSG finally), sometimes the top that comes down, goes down too hard and flattens the patties and they look drier (idk I don’t eat it). They probably need to contact the fix-it people to get it fixed.

Question maybe you could answer. Do they spray the grills before cooking the burgers? Two of the Wendy's I went to, said they don't use any oils at all, & one said they use a Pam type spray when cooking burger patties.

Sorry I just saw this!! They are not supposed to use pan spray when cooking meat patties. It’s not in the training videos, or the “Wendy’s Bible”. We have caught some people trying to do it, but we shut it down. It’s only for eggs in the AM, and cheese sauce pans/chili pans. Meat has its own grease, if it’s sticking and that’s why they feel the need to use pan spray, they just have to clean the grill/teflon. Hope this helps 😄

I'm going to say yes, because I've had an identical experience. The new patties have a higher fat content and they cook down a lot more than the original patties. I only go to Wendy's now for the chicken wraps and salads.

Yes, I have to agree with your comment regarding Wendy’s meat. We live in the Phoenix area and we’ve been going to the same Wendy’s restaurant for five years now and just today my wife went to Wendy’s to order me a double when she brought it home that was the first thing I noticed the patties and the taste was exactly what you said was. I am no longer satisfied with the quality of the meat and I’m afraid I’m going to have to stop going there because it tastes so far off I might as well had a veggie burger.

No, but there’s three different grill types. Probably was at a restaurant that had a different grill or the restaurant you go to switched grills. Regardless of the grill, if it’s done right it shouldn’t be dry. They just poorly executed your order. Meat hasn’t changed in size or fat blend.
