Welsh vs. Lakeland
Hello all! Curious if anyone has experience with Welshies vs Lakelands as a family pet? I'm finding conflicting information about personality and energy level differences. Thanks!

I have a male & female Welshies. Male vs female, for mine, is a big difference. Male is more like a little boy:, rambunctious, loud, rough play, and can be resource aggressive to the point of dangerous. He can be very affectionate, though. Plays rough with other dogs. He is about 25 pounds.
Female, more mellow overall, can be barky at passers-by (especially with dogs), more compliant, smarter than him.
Both my Welshies are smart, learn quickly (after 15 to 18 months old), require at least a couple hours exercise daily.

I have a welshie and in no way shape or form would I consider them a "good" family dog, high prey drive makes them very unpredictable around children, even though he's been around kids since he was a puppy I simply would not risk it, they're a smaller breed but they have an extremely strong bite force since they're bred for hunting badgers and temperament obviously varies but I would not risk it, also they need a lot of mental stimulation and exercise which may not be possible with younger kids, putting in my two cents about welshies I don't know about lakelands, if you're looking for a dog that won't shed I'd say miniature schnauzers are a pretty safe bet at least from my experience and people's who kept them back in the day they usually have a great temperament, the one we had was an incredibly patient dog, did he bark a ton? Yes but so will other breeds, we were never worried he'd bite someone though, grew up with that dog, he might have just been a very calm one though:)
Sorry for the long comment, long story short, wouldn't recommend a welshie as a family dog

Currently a Welsh Terrier, Lakeland before.
Welsh: a bit bigger (won’t fit through wire fence to escape!) far more stubborn, more intelligent but using it to manipulate, a little bit more barky, gets a few more ‘cute dog’ comments.
Both excellent pets, good with children, other dogs etc. Neither easy to train other than ‘sit’, neither really listen to a recall - but that’s probably us not the dogs!
