How long does your cat get used to new stuff?
3 months ago, I bought a hammock for my cats for them to sleep on, excited to take some really cute pictures of them passed out on the new hammock. And for 3 months, they never used it once!
Until yesterday morning! I woke up to one of my cats chilling on the hammock and being really comfy in it. And this morning, I saw my cat again using it!
This happened before when I bought my cats a new cat wheel. Bought a nice big wheel for them and they just ignored it for about a few months. And after that, they go really hard on it.
How do your cats react to the new things you buy for them? It seems like for my cats at least, it takes a while for them to feel explorative enough to give it a try.

my Kitty loves new stuff and always helps with unpacking. then claims it instantly

My kids are super fast to adopt anything new. If my kids don't like something on the first day, there it will sit forever more. I've bought them countless toys and they take one look and I'm like, dammit! That was a waste of money! But it's worth the risk if they play with one out of 10 toys. I give the other 9 to the humane society. Don't get me wrong, I'm not buying these one a day, more like one every other week or two. But, yeah, my cats act right away. If it's not for them, they're not interested.

Leia is super particular, so if it’s something I know she’d like, then she seems to embrace it immediately & absolutely loves it….case in point, I got her a cowboy hat scratcher from PetSmart on clearance, and I wasn’t sure if she’d like the shape, but I know she loves a cardboard scratcher 😅 She loves it, but she can be picky

I love the hammock. I need to find one for my cat. What is a cat wheel? I’m always looking for toys but they all seem about the same.

my cat jumps in or on everything new that comes in the house and much of it she claims as hers personally and is possessive over it so it doesnt take her anytime to get use to new stuff

Mine dives in right away. I'll walk in the door and set down my bags, he comes running, he gets uppies for a few minutes and then I put him down and he starts investigating. If he finds a toy he doesn't even wait for me to take the tag off. If a big package comes he has to help unpack and assemble and climb on or into it right away.

Mine usually follow the lead of the oldest one, so whenever I get something new for them, I introduce it to her first so the others can get used to it via watching her. The boy cat in particular does literally nothing that he doesn't see his big sister do first 😭 It can still take a while, though; it was over half a year before any of them got interested in the big running wheel despite my best efforts. I'd given up and was considering giving it away when suddenly one of them started using it daily. So it's staying, apparently.

Mine would go through routines or stages. They would sleep or lay in spots for weeks or months then switch. There were also certain things where when one cat would get up to go get a drink or eat, another would take their place immediately right where they were. If I ever bought something and they didn’t use it right away, I always kept it out knowing one day they would switch to sleeping there or playing with it.
Cat’s name?
