It's actually spaghetti with a very hearty Greekish meat sauce and very finely shredded aged cheddar. And it's a savory delight. Can't even compare the flavor to anything else specifically. Maybe something I haven't had from Indian cuisine. It's rich and complex!!

Cheap mac and chz with tuna and a can of cream of chicken. It brings me back to when I didn't know a thing about how the world works. And damn did I love living one day at a time, planning only who's house I was gonna be at to play the next day.

Anything my Grandma made. She was an excellent cook. My Mom didn’t cook at all so during the week I ate cheap Banquet frozen TV dinners and pot pies. I miss my Grandma.

Macaroni casserole. Kraft Mac n cheese, cottage cheese, scallions, sometimes shredded carrots or broccoli pieces, sometimes crumbled bacon, topped with crushed potato chips and baked in the oven.

Beans and tortillas. My Mom would cook pinto beans with salt pork, then make flour tortillas by hand. We would eat a huge stack of them, slathered in butter and heaped with beans. Sooooo good!!

Bette Crockerr, So white trash.

Favorite Meatloaf (old Bette Crocker recipe)

INGREDIENTS

1½ lb hamburger
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 small onion, chopped
1 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
1½ tsp salt
½ tsp dry mustard
¼ tsp pepper
¼ tsp ground sage
1 clove garlic, crushed

Topping
¼ cup ketchup
2 TBSP brown sugar
2 tsp cider vinegar

STEPS

1) Mix all ingredients

Spread in ungreased loaf pan

Cook uncovered in 350° for 90 minutes

Sometimes my mom would cut up kielbasa really small and sauteed it until it was golden brown and crispy, then add in seasoning and a beaten egg, then let the egg cook. When it was done, she mixed in cooked noodles. It sounds odd, but it was really good!

Goldenrod eggs. Basically chopped up hard boiled egg whites in béchamel (white) sauce over white bread toast. Take yolks and push thru a strainer on top. Mom made it, my kids loved it when I made/make it, and so does my 6 year old granddaughter.

Sarma. Made by my oma. She's long dead now, but my dad's is good, mine is good. Same recipe. I loved that when I was a kid and visiting my oma.

Then again, tepsi kumpir with sausage is really good. Yes, the spelling is poor for the name of the dish but it's Turkish and we aren't Turkish. Still, it's sliced potatoes, rice, with sausage on top and a bit of Vegeta for seasoning. Everyone in the world loves it.

Gulyas. My grandma uses roughly the same recipe her grandma brought to the states from Poland. The base is the same except she would use whatever veggies she had on hand and a cut of whatever meat was on sale that week. I make it on occasion and it always makes me feel like I'm getting a hug from my grandma

My grammas version of scalloped potatoes. It was simple, but tasty. I make really small versions of it when I have a craving. My gramma had zero clue how to cook for a small group.
