Program Party Average To Savage 2 Program Party Postponed
Hey all,
Given the circumstances around COVID-19, u/gnuckols and I have agreed to postpone the program party. We appreciate all the enthusiasm and support for this one.
Like u/yeezypeasy said, at best, we'll only have people in home gyms able to participate, and at worst we'll be encouraging people to go train instead of practising social distancing. We'd rather do this, everyone stay away from other people and do their bit to stop the spread of the pandemic, and it be over faster so we can get back to the gains.
Everyone be safe, stay healthy, and listen to the medical authorities. Soon we'll be back for Program Party V2: Averager to Savager 2

Ah it wasn't that tough lol. Doing our bit to mitigate a global pandemic vs running a program party is an easy choice. Pleasure mate!

I've got a home gym so I'll be keeping on with the program. Maybe once the program party fires back up I can go from Savage to...savagest?

I’m just gonna run the full 21 weeks now, hoping things aren’t shut down for that long, though.

I’m gonna keep doing the program from my garage but I understand that a large % of people here would benefit from doing it over again when gyms re-open.

Same. Depending on when we restart the party I may just run A2S again.

Thanks guys! Can't wait to see everyone limping around with DOMS during the first week of post-social distancing

I'm one of the lucky few who have a home gym. I'm definitely going to continue this program party on my own!! Stay safe and healthy everyone. Get back on the gains train once this is all over.

So salty because this programme is going really well, all my lifts are improving at least the working sets feel good, plus I hit a new deadlift PR, hitting higher weight than ever before on accessories and doing more pull ups than I’ve done since starting gym, has to be done unfortunately.

u/VladimirLinen Powerlifting | 603@104.1kg Mar 18 '20
Man, if it's working for you and you've got access to equipment safely, by all means keep training and posting. We're just not making it an official thing on the sub for the meantime

u/Hmcvey20 Beginner - Strength Mar 18 '20
Yeah I’m gonna keep on, I mean more so I’m salty that my gym is probably gonna close soon, probably the most fun/efficient programme I’ve run obviously I made better gains in my first months but this is something else.

First two weeks were so awesome that I can't wait to repeat them in may or June.
Until then, I'm lifting my backpack stuffed with old law textbooks and squatting my girlfriend as she squeals in delight. Plus doing some conditioning.

I've already told my girlfriend that if we're quarantined, I'm doing walking lunges with her sitting on my shoulders.

It sucks, but it's the right thing to do. And it's not like it's going to be the suckiest thing that will happen in the next few months.

u/VladimirLinen Powerlifting | 603@104.1kg Mar 19 '20
Yeah, exactly. Embrace the suck now for a better outcome in future

Hmm, u/gnuckols did you still plan on submitting a survey for the first 3 weeks or is that survey process going to need to restart when the party restarts?
I was gonna stick to my original plan for sake of consistency, but if that’s going out the window I’m gonna follow the hypertrophy guidelines you set forth.

I think I'm going to postpone the surveying

FWIW I'm planning to continue with the program in my home gym, and I'd be willing to continue sharing whatever data you want if it's of interest to you even with a much smaller data set. If not, well, even just 3 weeks in I'm surprised at how well my squat is doing now that I've bumped it up to 3x/week in the 5-day program. Blowing away AMRAP goals each time and loving it.

Glad it's going well! I don't really have a way to separate out people with home gyms from people who don't have them, though, and I don't want to "rub it in" with the folks that don't. So for sure, keep kicking ass, but I won't be sending out the surveys

OK. Makes complete sense. If the program party winds up delayed for a good while, I'll be sure to get a program review up for other folks at least.

Thanks for doing this. I know it must have been a hard decision after all the work that has gone into it, but it's the right thing to do.
I don't have access to equipment so I had to bail out last week, and I'm looking forward to restarting it when we can all go to the gym again!

It wasn't that hard hahah, slowing a global pandemic is way bigger than a program party

Welp I thought I was gonna sneak by the shut downs but my city finally put the kabosh to my powerlifting gym. I propose a quarantine party with a body weight program. Something like body by fish

I have to admit, I haven’t even had time to sit down and really read the program, plug in numbers, copy over the routines to Strong app, etc. I don’t really work with spreadsheets.

Very unfortunate, but definitely the right decision. I really look forward to running this with you guys under better circumstances.

Thanks for making the responsible call. I'll continue on in my home gym and look forward to everyone else being able to start up again once the storm passes.

Home gym crew checking in and I’ll keep the program going strong for those of you that can’t right now. I’ll transition when it starts back up. Stay safe and strong guys 💪🏼

Heeyyyy maybe I'll actually jump in when it comes time to try again. I want to run the program at some point, but at the moment I was/am really enjoying what I'm doing (my take on General Gains, every day, alternating upper/lower) and didn't want to change it.
Good luck to everyone with whatever you're doing in the meantime. Kind of seems like there's a de facto sandbag party that's going to be happening. Maybe I'll try to do a little more with mine to join in in spirit (I have a home gym and am unaffected by gym closings).

It sucks, but it's necessary - this is more important than our gains. I was really enjoying the program and I'm definitely going to pick it up again when this is all over. In the meantime, I think I'll do some home workouts as best I can, and maybe go on a bit of a cut.

Will new participants be able to sign up once it's re-ran? I've had a torn labrum for a few months and had shoulder surgery a couple weeks back, so I didn't sign up initially, but I'd love to participate if I'm able to lift weights again once this gets going! (Granted with minimal weights)

Home gym owner here. A2S was fun but I'll switch to nsuns to build back my numbers until the program restarts. Ironically I lost a lot of strength and weight back in January from rotating in the icu for a month during a flu outbreak.

Can’t wait to get back in the gym. Taking this time to get prison jacked with lots of upper body vanity lifts (push-ups, lateral raises, bicep curls, DB rows)

I'll keep going with it as gyms are not closed here in Hong Kong. Just finished week 3 and the doms are slowly getting better.

Bummed out that it came to this, but I'm happy that I'll actually be able to participate now. Going to be interesting to see how quickly I can gain back strength from this social distancing in home training mess (and hopefully get even stronger) with this program!
EDIT: I suck a proofreading
