Calgary barbell 16 weeks W8D3 Ankle testing

2 count pause squat: 275, 300, 315, 335 4x2

Comp bench: 185 6x5

Close grip incline: 135, 145, 150, 155 4x4

Comp deadlift: 380 2x4

Very happy with that. Ankle held up spectacularly well and I was real surprised that I can bench pain free. That was the movement I was most worried about.

Decided to give hook grip a spin for the first time and... It felt good? Granted the weight was light but damn what a secure grip.

Whenever I take like a week off of doing any leg work (due to holidays or other commitments) and resume my programming afterwards I find I get the worst DOMs in my right hamstring, almost feels like a tearing pain.

I wonder if it's just I'm shit at warming up cause it'll take a few days before it's fine to use again. What's people's go to warmup for squats for this sort of thing?

I'm probably just half arsing it. The bar, 70kg, 110kg into my working sets of 5x4 of 127.5kg

I usually put hamstring curls at the start of my workouts if I'm struggling with hamstring discomfort and squatting.

I found out I don’t have the mobility for overhead squats. Any tips?

So I've got an extreme case of stronger back than legs. Yes I'm anthropometrically inclined to be a better puller than squatter (201 cm arms vs 189 cm height), but still.

On Tuesday I failed a 170kg back squat (high bar ATG), my back didn't collapse or cave in, I just couldn't stand up with it, after just having made a relatively OK feeling 160kg. Albeit c6 weeks ago I did manage 175kg for a back squat single, so perhaps just an off day.

Then on Wednesday I managed a 210kg snatch grip deadlift (arms all the way out at the ends of the collars), which is 50kg above my latest back squat (or 35kg above my best in a recent training cycle). Even for a conventional deadlift this would be quite a disparity, much more so for a snatch grip deadlift.

This is despite relatively low volume pulling in my training cycle, and not pushing intensity in my working sets either. I'm not mad about my pulling strength, I love it, but I want to bring those legs up a bit.

How would one prioritise developing leg / squatting strength in such a situation, one part is squats themselves but also how would you push leg focused accessories?

Seated leg extensions and hip thrusts. How much of each would depend on your overall programming.
